You know it would be wonderful to sit out on the beach and watch the sun go down.  Listening to the sound of the waves, and just relaxing a little.  Once the stars come out and the fireflies start dancing, start a little campfire.  Cook some marshmellos, listen to some music from when you were young.  After you do that for awhile, get caught in a rain (which also puts out the campfire ) head in the house, start a fire in the fireplace to warm up, grab a blanket, some coco and snuggle up to somebody you love.  Now that...that would be a good day.

If you could fit in some freshly grilled burgers and dogs, crisp watermelon, and some good beer, I'd say it would be the perfect day!

Heh, I'd have to do without the Hamburgers and Hotdogs (I like them, they just don't like me), but everything else sounds great.  One thing I miss from my childhood days (when I lived on a farm) was the field of flowers.  Early morning (on those rare days off) just laying in the dew soaked field.  I would get yelled at for it, but it was worth it.

Just reading a webcomic called a Girl and her fed.  Gave me a good laugh, and I miss that.  We taking things like laughter for granted, but we really don't do enough of it.  Maybe if we laughed more this world wouldn't be such a dreary place.

Since Pandora reminded me of this little thread I started, I thought I'd add to it.

A small happiness I had this weekend was going home to see my wife and daughter.  See, because of my job, right now my wife and I are living on separate sides of the country.  My daughter is with my wife.  So I've been sort of alone.  That's had it's perks, I won't lie (unlimited video game time!), but overall it's pretty much sucked.  They will be joining me permanently soon, which is great , but for the last few months I've only gotten to see them every third week or so.  My little girl is almost two years old now.  She's learning to talk.  She's also learning how to be a little princess.

Anyway, all I wanted for Fathers Day was to spend it with them, and that's just what I got.  I also got to spent it with my father.  We made a nice dinner (kebabs on the grill) and enjoyed a warm, sunny summer afternoon together.  And my daughter got to see her first fireflies.  All in all a perfect day!

I know it is odd, but I find happiness when I help somebody feel better about themselves.  In fact there is few feelings in the world that compare.  If I can make somebody else smile, or feel better in any way, it just warms my heart to no end.

So then Mytical - all this time you've been trying to cheer me up has never been about me at all? It was all just for your own personal gratification?!  How selfish!

*sticks out tongue at Mytical*

Corribus you sound like a great Daddy - I have no clue what you really look like - but from now on I'll be picturing you as a floating evil eye paired with that goofy proud papa grin that I'm certain you had across your face when you called your girl a princess.

(its actually a bit of a disturbing image, what with the one glaring eye and all, but still hard to fear anyone with that grin )

Hmm, for me it’s all about noticing the little things that make the world great. If I'm having a bad day and on my way to work, and I see the new batch of ducklings and find myself stopping to watch them - that's when I feel really good. It’s not so much about all the wonderful things in life, or about having the appreciation of them - but for me it’s the little reminders that no matter how beat down I may be feeling, I still haven't lost my ability to see those things. I don't know how to really describe it, but I find it gives me strength to know that I've not turned into one of those people that stop noticing.

A few nights ago at work we went outside for a break, and it was the most gorgeous night. The sky was jet black, none of the usual dark bluish tint from the city, and somehow everything seemed...enhanced. (not the right word, but the best I could find)

The moon was full, and whiter than I'd ever seen - and the clouds were the big, thick fluffy looking kind. The ones around the moon looked nearly black in the center, but at the outer edges the moonlight shone through and it looked almost like a whitish neon glow. It was surreal

okay, I know I'm spending too much time trying to make you see it too, so I'll move along. Annnnnyways, I was gaping up at the sky like a dude who just saw his first pair of real live honk-honks (added that in case TNT ever still happens along) , the other ladies I work with had been chatting away and kind of snapped at me saying

"Helllooooo, anybody in there??" I guess they were asking me something.

So I just say 'look' and point, and the three of them joined me in just staring at the sky like idiots. We spent the rest of our break just watching the sky. It was maybe 5 minutes tops, but felt like so much longer lol

I don't know why it struck me the way it did - but I felt so good after that, just completely at peace.

I suppose that right there is another of my little joys, not just seeing the good things - but sharing them with friends

That's a nice image, Pan.  Nature sometimes sure knows how to make you stop and take notice, that's for sure.  It's like when you see one of those amazing sunsets that just makes you stop and watch it for like 30 minutes.

Kinda makes you wonder why, if so many small happinesses are tied to nature, why we humans are so intent on destroying it.  But let's not go there - this is a "happy" thread.

Btw I *am* a floating evil eye.

The ones who seem intent on hurting it, are the ones that stop seeing.

And you know, now that I've got the goofy grin image stuck in my head - no matter how hard you try to sound all menacing and stuff it's just not going to work

You know what else makes me happy? New school supplies lol I had completely forgotten about that little joy of mine until my son first started kindergarten (and now he's a teenager!! *sob*) But all the new notebooks and freshly sharpened pencils and pens and stuff just delight me, I get like a kid at Christmas

Of course that buzz usually wore off once the teachers started reminding me that they were for work, but the first time opening a blank notebook and writing in it...man I love that

I know, I'm a giant geek...but surprisingly easy to please

These days, a lot of things have made me happy. The fact that I've got some awesome friends from TAFE is one thing, that I'm on holidays is another thing and that I'm just starting to enjoy life even more. For a long time, I didn't like little kids in supermarkets (where I work) because they would always seem to make a racket by crying or just throwing a tantrum. It really bothered me. Recently, though, I've started to be a litte happier because I realise I was probably like that at their age as well. I just get happy inside when I just see parents and their young kids riding trolleys or just generally having time. Supermarkets aren't what I would call a fun place to be, but that just brings a smile to my face, to see the kids having so much fun with their parents, and not having a worry in the world because their that young.

I only wish I was younger because life would be so much easier. It just reminds me of the good times I had as a kid and that perhaps, one day, I might be a father and might be able to make my own kids happy. I also like it when I may turn around to see a baby sitting in the trolley and then they just stare at you as if they are checking you out because I'm a total stranger to them. It's cute and that brings a smile to my face as well. I don't know what brought upon this change in me but I welcome it because it makes work that much more enjoyable for me.

Childrens' smiles or laughter are infectious.  No matter how down I am when I am around a smiling or laughing child I end up smiling or laughing (depending on which they are doing).  Which is odd seeing how I am not exactly fond of children .  Also their intensity sometimes.  They can seem SO serious when building with blocks or doing something 'casual'.  My neice (when she was young) once was coloring a coloring book and her look on her face was more you would imagine from somebody doing brain surgery or something.  It was so adorable.

Young (or old) 'lovers' walking hand in hand.  For some reason that makes me smile.  It is innocent and sweet.  Can't help but smile.

Young "lovers" annoy me. It's just "look I'm getting laid every day, look how happy I am, look at me, COME ON LOOK AT ME!!!". Stupid teenage swank. If I could, I would prohibit snogging in public. Seriously!

Older people walking hand in hand make me smile though. Proves there is still some sense in all that relationship stuff. It's a very pleasant sight.
