Shaiya is hands down the best MMORPG I have played so far that does not require money. Really, a lot of the perks they offer for fees can be purchased in game

anyways, if I were to make an MMORPG there would be a lot of basic things that have already been used in other games. Really a lot of my ideas are original but the basics like stats and bars to represent HP and things like this, are inspired by other games, not ripped off! If I were to make a game before all of these there is a chance I would have a tool bar/action bar and list party members with stats because it is such a basic idea!

Not a rip off

P.S. father I will play FW in time ... in time lol

Mamga, believe me when I say you can't really mess up in HOMM. Sure, some options are a bad idea, but, just like in chess, every move you make balances out, eventually. If you get a high level you're strong, no matter what skills you took and you can even take the smarter skills after you tried a little. To optimise your character here you need a flipping strategy guide.

I am not doing so well in Shaiya.. It's a temp character though. I am going to read a lot from the forum before I start my hard character.

I already looked into PVP records and it seems the dark side (fury) is doing better. I still will join light, unless I change my mind. I looked at which classes get more kills too, it's hard to determine because there is no "average" If I look and someone has 100k kills, that means a few things, one mainly, is they play to much xD

But when i look at the places on the bottom of the list there is like 2k kills, when in other classes the 50place is around 5k each, yet the top 3 are less than half of 100k

it's complicated what I mean here but it is not easy figuring out the best path for this game :|

Yes it was. Well, I didn't mention all the things, just those I saw in the picture. We must also consider features like looting, quests, talent/ability/skill/whatever tree.

I haven't played Shaiya, but that sounds bad because doesn't it come to it that when you pay you become overpowered who non-payers can't match?

I don't consider it inspiration anymore when the game has exactly same features and hardly anything else.

i don't believe you can be serious

even IF wow invented those things, they are to basic to keep out of other games.

I concede that before wow quests in games were unheard of. I concede that before wow, not only the word looting, but raiding anything else was unheard of

all praise wow the inventor of these things. All games after wow are rip offs.

bye

edit @ your edit. Spending rl dollars makes the game easier for the lazy. The others can be nearly similar in strength.

but seriously.. I am being so nice right now in a lot of ways.

The fact that you even would be able to come close to saying quests and skill trees are wow exclusive and invented is insane. To say things as basic as those signify a rip off of wow is.. well I'll use the nice term insane

plz stop arguing your opinion here it's entirely off topic

Again, it is a rip-off if all its features are same. And I didn't say that all games are. Stop exaggerating.

I haven't played many MMORPGs but, for example, Runescape is not a rip-off of WoW (I think it was before WoW anyway). You can clearly see the difference.

But when a game like Runes of Magic is examined, can you say something that would be different?

Unfortunately something like this is common.  Take Vampires, everybody claims that most vampires today are rip offs of Count Dracula, despite the fact that Count Dracula was NOT the first vampire.

Even that things are a rip off of D&D, although 99% of its creatures were just taken from myths and legands of multiple places.

Everquest had a LOT of things that WOW has, though of course WoW has better graphics and does a lot of things better.  TheRealm (before everquest) had a lot of things Everquest did, but of course Everquest did it better

Just because somebody uses fancy graphics, and has millions of subscribers does not make them the first.

Harry Potter was not the first wizard.
Halo was not the first first person shooter
Doom was not the first first person shooter
Nintendo was NOT the first console
Although Pong probably IS the first video game

That doesn't piss me off. I don't think Count Dracula was invented for monetary purposes anyway. Besides, it's all so old that all copyrights have lapsed.

In most games the creatures are all the same: humans, elves, dwarwes, orcs. Who was the first to put them together succesfully? Tolkien? It worked, and others wanted to get sharings as well. On that side, Warcraft is also partly a rip-off.

I don't know how much they differ but if they differ only by graphics, lore/background, it is a rip-off.

Of course, but often the first implementation is poor, which often makes the ideas used unattractive, so it takes some courage to try implement them better by someone else. I think a big slice of credit belongs to those who first implement ideas succesfully. Then, the ones that come after it are just copycats who would have never used those ideas unless someone had used them succesfully before.

Except Everquest was before WoW.  As was TheRealms (Which was before Everquest).  So WoW would be a rip off of them, not the other way around.  So how can you rip off a rip off?  In their time both EQ and TR were popular, but as graphics improved, they lost the fan base.  The same WILL happen to WoW.  Better graphics will come along, and somebody will do it better then WoW does.  Maybe WoW II, maybe some other game entirely, but it WILL happen.

Edit : I've played many MMORPGs.  WoW does have some very interesting features.  The first thing that got me hooked was my first flight by griffon.  It was utterly breathtaking.  The quests were nothing new, did them in TR and EQ.  The creatures, sure they were different.  The skill tree was a bit different, the classes, etc.  It was the graphics that (pardon the pun) really WOWed me however.

I was talking HOMM V of course, where every skills has something you can take out of.

Also, if you mess up that character build, no problem, just start over again. I mean, In an MMO you spend a LOT of time doing fetch quests and such (which I obviously hate, if they're too long or... impossible to carry out. I'm looking at you, WOW!), which you don't in homm, am I right? I mean, games don't last longer than a few hours am I right?

Yes, I am certain that there will be more a succesfull MMORPG with better graphics than WoW, but I doubt that it will have exactly same features as WoW.

That seems alot of difference to me, but when you compare a game like Runes of Magic to WoW, you know what I'm talking about.

Also many of the rip-offs have actually worse graphics than the game they were copied from. This mostly because it's just a small team that made the game and couldn't afford to put better effort. I don't think they even mind as long as they can make some profit by it.

You just have no idea how many 'successful' MMOs were before WoW, and how much WoW copied from those. I can't believe you say for example the loot and party system was invented by WoW! Heck even Lineage 2 was before WoW, not to mention Lineage 1, Runescape, Everquest, and many many others

Yes, RoM is not much different from the classic MMO, but except the talent system the other things it has are not from WoW, but from other older games that WoW copied from as well.

lol how exciting

Basic constructs of many MMORPGs include and are not limited to:

1: Mini map
2: world map
3: zones and areas
4: Characters
5: quests
6: experience
7: Various forms of experience caused upgrades when one say, raises a level
8: monsters that usually start small and in later areas are 100 times stronger(or more)
9: items that can be limited to levels/classes/completion of quests etc
10: an occasional need to "party"

The list goes on, and on, and I would not be surprised if WOW had 7 of those qualities, and none of them were original/created by wow.

These things are entirely basic parts of gaming reality. Not only are they to common to claim as a particular games creation, but it would be really similar to saying "Game X is exclusively entitled to the color green and cyan"

You still don't get the message. None of the games that you have mentioned is not exactly like WoW. They have elements that WoW has but they are not all same. But when a game has all same elements, like Runes of Magic, it is a rip-off.

all those 10 things listed on page 3, if they were used in any game all together, that does not mean the game is a rip off in the least. These things are common.
