Poor Real Madrid, that Schalke goal in stoppage time may be crucial, now they somehow have to prevent Schalke from scoring 6 goals in Madrid. It's gonna be tough.

I think Real Madrid will win champions league, that was one hell of a display of attacking options last night.
What a goal by Huntelaar though!

Real indeed looks fearsome, but I still consider Bayern the biggest treat out there.

Schalke's defending was pretty pathetic though, I think it had more to do with Real scoring 6 than Real did...

Also, start Iker...

Well, we have El Derby (Real Madrid - Atletico) this very sunday, should be a good test.

Still, it wasn't just the goals on yesterday match. Real was also very good on the defensive aspect, imo.

Alright, halfway through the 1/16th and let's look at the current scoreboard for our predictions:
Vindicator: 5/8 good first round, took a different route than the rest of us and it paid off well.
Angelito: 4/8 with 2 scores spot on, which is very impressive in my opinion. Certainly much better than random guessing.
Storm-Giant: 4/8 THIS GUY PUT HIMSELF ON PRESSURE BY WAITING MUCH LONGER TO COME WITH HIS PREDICTIONS AND THEN HE DIDN'T DO ANY BETTER!!! HAHAHAHAAH ...not much to say, many similar predictions ( *further below) ...Also what kind of Spaniard predicts his own teams to fail just for his own teams to win in awesome fashion?
OhforfSake: 4/8 this guy sucks, don't let him come near your children!

So I noticed that Angelito, SG, and I had very similar predictions, and therefore also the same games correct, these were:
Bayern Münich, Dortmund, Real Madrid
SG had PSG, Angelito had Gala/Chelsea and I had Barcelona.

On the other hand, the current leader of the scoreboard, a proper Spaniard that is Vindicator and a respected chess player () found 3 of his 5 points in Spanish teams, whereas the English team really betrayed him.

The game which none of us managed to predict was Olympiakos - Man. U which we all thought would end in English victory.

Regarding Real's chances of winning CL. In my opinion Real Madrid has always, even back when they always got eliminated in 1/16 of CL, managed to easily beat teams on a slightly lower level than themselves. Just look at how they demolished Tottenham a few years ago. Since RM's problem has never been here, I doubt this is very useful in saying how well RM will do in CL. They'll have to meet an equal side eventually (Man. C/Barcelona, PSG, Dortmund, Man. U, Chelsea, Arsenal/Bayern)

I didn't include Atletico Madrid, because they're still a big question mark for me, and I imagine Real Madrid could get a path which looks something like this: Schalke, Olympiakos, Atletico Madrid/Milan, which would allow for a POTENTIALLY (depending on Atletico's form) somewhat easy access to the final, but it's very unlikely mind you.

If you had predicted all Spanish teams to win, you'd have been in the lead now, btw.

I completely disagree with you. Since la Novena and Del Bosque exit, Real started to fall more and more. During Calderon era, Real would miserable fall to lesser teams. Liverpool 4-0, Roma 2-1 x2...heck, even with CRonaldo, Benzema and XAlonso, Pellegrini's Madrid lost to Lyon in Ro16

No, at that era Madrid had a lot of troubles even with not-so-big teams. But I think it had to do a lot with the over-signs of offensive players while leaving a weak midfield. Now Madrid has Xabi, Modric, Khedira, Isco...heck, you could even add Bale and Di María to that list. And the fact that özil left the team in summer because he didn't play enough...compare that with the two Diarras and Gago lol. I still have nightmares

Silly forf belives ManU an equal rival for Real Madrid? HAHAHAHAHAHA

Please, be serious.

Alright, I didn't remember it was those teams.. But that was a time where PSV could with 3-1 in the semis against AC Milan (later champions), Liverpool could win CL, etc. So in my opinion, back then the playing field was more leveled. What I tried to say was merely that while RM never did win CL, and started a "curse" as well, after being eliminated by Monaco, they always managed to get through the group stage without trouble, unlike many other "great teams" *cough* United *cough*. E.g. there was a year where they was in group stage with Juventus. The group ended up looking like this:
Juventus: 3 3 0 16
Real Madrid: 4 0 2 16
Team#3
Team#4

Juventus only got 1 win against Team#3 & 4. Real Madrid only lost to Juventus. In my opinion, that was a team which did better against weaker sides than equal sides, and I have the impression it was a general tendency of Real Madrid those years.

In any case, my point was more that Real Madrid needs to worry more about stronger teams..

Ok but i wouldn't consider Man U to be a harder team for Real.
Man U will be lucky to get into CL next season!

They won't. The 4th team is Liverpool with 56 points, 11 above ManU xD

Speaking of Premier, I just realized that Livepool actually closed the gap with the top 3 of the table! 60 points for Chelsea, 59 for Arsenal and 57 for City, they are right behind them. 4 horse-race for the title?

Totally agree SG. Only thing that has held Liverpool back is their defence has been shakey at times. If they can sort that out they are good to go.

Except that Liverpool were strong at the time, and were considered favorites for the game. That season, they won away to both Chelsea and Man United (causing Chelsea's first league defeat at home after 86 games, and beating United 4-1).
