Why I like Toh

Hi everyone in ToH,
Recently there have been some posts that are mainly negative and whining, and I think its time for a change. Letīs start with this post.

Iīm going to tell you what I like about toh. Only the good stuff, nothing bad. And I would like you all to post what you like about toh, even if itīs just one little thing. And please, nothing bad. Just leave it out, even if you have something. This post is *only* about the good things.

Things I like about toh:

1. You get to know people that you can play again.
2. The games mean more, as each player has a reputation to keep up, you donīt quit games or insult people or things like that.
3. Itīs easy to find good players to play, that are also nice people.
4. You get a picture of how skilled you are at heroes.
5. Itīs kept together pretty neatly by Vesuvious, and hasnīt broke down like alot of other online gaming organisations. So itīs going to last a long time.
6. Most things are fair and logical.
7. There are lots of subtournaments to enter when you have had too much of regular games.
and the best part.
8. You have the freedom to play however you like. You can play random maps or premade maps, rules or no rules, anything you like, anytime you want.

So.. what do YOU like about toh?

Well, I finally decided to try H3 multiplayer after years of playing the heroes series solo and knowing that I am not really that good, so I checked out the zone.  Guess what, I see all these games saying TOH only.  Anyhow I decided then to join mostly to make finding a game easier, and I am very glad I did.  Yeah, I know I have only played 3 games, and lost them all, but at least it has kept me from boring some people with easy wins and helped me learn some things.  I just keep playing better opponents maybe, because I know I am playing single player much better already.
My thanks to Ves and all the volunteers that keep this tournament alive, you are doing a great job.  Thanks to Bjorn for posting this thread to give us all a place to tell how much we like TOH.  And thanks to all the great players who make the game so much fun.

If you learn so much by losing, why am I so dumb?

Nice thread

1) Heroes3 is a great game, that can be played again and again and again...
2) ToH is run by a dedicated person, you can trust that it will be there tomorrow
3) The tournament has always been very proffesional in all aspects, very nice web design, good ranking system now even updated real time and good sub-tournies like the new clans
4) No commercials, and it's free. This is appreciated
5) Lots of players

Umm can't think of anymore right now, besides thanks to all the volunteers and of course Vesuvius!

- over 130 maps!  I've only played about 45-50 of them, but almost ALL of them are really good.

- players usually don't suddenly quit or say "gogogo" ... and later quit because you don't use quick-combat.

- ToH keeps great profiles of it's members (especially as a season develops), so that you can see who and what kind of player you're up against.

- less cheaters.

- and not to forget ... our lovely ToH mascot

speaking of the lack of ads, its because Im sick and tired of seeing these popup ads literally everywhere on the net now.  Even yahoo, CNN and such have sunk down to them.  I hate them, and I will never put them up.  (Offers from ad groups have come in, and I tell them how I feel about their ads, they do not reply back

Yes ... TOH is great... blah blah blah...actually I just thought I'd post something on here in response to VES.  (don't worry bjorn, I'm not gonna poison your thread with vile "no rules is best" or "rules is the way to go" or "randoms ROCK!"  (but of course they do)

Back to my point.  Ads.  Great for TOH NOT to have ads.  Sites like yahoo, espn, etc made me peeved so I found this little program I quite like:  pop-up stopper.   (I think lots probably have it already)

Allows you to block every pop-up before/as it comes up so you don't have to deal the the "X10-camera's AMAZING new offer....only good until midnight tonight". The other good thing is if you WANT to open another window or allow pop-up just hold shift or ctrl, works fine.

Here's a direct link (I think):  http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/downloading.html?DispCategory=PC+Internet&DispSubcategory=Browsers&DispTitle=Pop%2DUp+Stopper&refresh_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Epopupstopper%2Enet%2FPopUpStopper26%2Eexe&Fcode=66880&Category=PC+Internet&Subcategory=Browsers

Damn that is long....didn't realize it was: if not try this one and click the free one:  http://www.panicware.com/product_dpps.html

Terribley sorry for long post on non-TOH crud.  TOH is rocks..the people are nice...even the aussies :-).    etc etc etc.

hmmmm, here's what I like the most I think.

1. The message board.  No other tournament has one as good.

2.The calibre of the players.  Most of the games I have played here have been extrememly close with luck deciding the winner.  Of course there are a lot of players that are simply amazing and better too.  But it seems in my experience, that if you can compete with the vets then you'll have no problem finding fun, competitive games.

3.The automated ranking system.

4.The people.  There are some you won't like and others that are tossers, but those are few in my experience.

5.The medals and prestige.  Everyone likes shiny metals next to their name.

6.The fact that you can find any type of game you could want to play.  Whatever your style there is a player out there that will play it.

That said, for me the best experiences I have had in toh are:

1.Getting into the clan finals and making lt. last season.

2.The trivia finals.  Talking to Flamingo before the finals was part of all the fun I had too.

3.Clans this season has been lots of fun so far.  I've made lots of new friends.

4.Many, many others!

And the septics are OK too

The people make ToH what it is, first of all the people running it, and second of all, the people playing it (with a few minor exceptions) What irks me most is people in the zone promoting HK or Myths and simultaneously bagging ToH. These people have no clue IMO.

Hmmm.. I'm a reallllly bad player

Just see my profile (change the 14 with 15) and see.

Yet it's alot of fun.

1)I learn stuff, since I'm bad, but I'm getting better from game to game, and maybe I'll start winning one day .

2)Know the basic level of your opponents.

3)Get to know new friends.

4)No cheaters - if there are they'll get to the Hall of Shame and won't disturb any ToH players.

5)Good battle maps.

Tournament of Laughter

My list of things I love about ToH are way too numerous to mention so I'll just mention one.

If I am tired or irritable I can go to the zone and laugh hysterically at all the witty reportoire and in a few minutes I feel great.

Sometimes I log in for a minute before I go out and get my laugh fix and then go out with a huge smile on my face.

Joe,Sparo,Mad,Bjorn,Grumblebelly,ReverendMorris,Defreni,Hapkane,Phantom1500 and The Vulture are all hilarious.

If I didn't mention your name..I apoligize....it's not that I forgot...it's just that you just aren't funny. =)

I was allmost growing too tired to play any more HoMM3. Then suddenly Ves decides to open up and old tournie, but with a new look Clans
Why I suddenly spend hours on end playing this game again, is mainly due to some great ppl in my clan, Elio UT, and 888
But I have run into some new great people playing clans. Haile73 which in my opinion is the perfect player. Great fun, respectfull to all etc. Hats off to him.
Then there is offcourse all the people I looked up to when I started TOH, Jinxer, Mocara Vex etc. Season 1 veterans who I still look up too, eventhough they dont know
And lately a new trend has started, talking about football (Soccer) with ppl like TEL, Troelsen, Motor, Xarfax, Stiven. It just makes it a blast just to pop into zone, and like Moc says, get ur dose of laughter.
Then there are the ppl who are just great to talk to, Naughty_Nymph and Qu_Purple.
I have forgotten tons of names, but u must get my drift by now. TOH is great because off the ppl TOH compose off, and its all thanks to Vesuvius and Melissa, aswell as all the Volunteers. 3 off them should be mentioned here aswell as it is those I see most often, Jinxer, Andi and Lichking. And I know some more volunteers which I dont know in person but still takes on a huge amount off work.
Thanks for a great tournie, that is far more addictive to be good to fainthearted people like me

Thanks for the nice words Defreni - I could say something similiar about you
Still remember our first game, the closest game I've played so far. With a momentum that changed 4-5 times.
Couldn't believe I won until I imploded your last pikemen, lol.

So why do I like ToH? Well, my main reasons are:

-most of the people I'm talking to are very nice.
Don't want to name them all - you know who you are

-dense level of competition.
So many times I thought I'm playing on a decent level, just to get my butt kicked awfully.
Followed by an extensive savegame analysis, new tactics development & practice and some delightful wins. And another devastating loss.
Etc. Etc.

Good thing also that so much effort is taken to ban the cheaters; they nearly ruined it for me.
