School of the Unseen Hand(a map making thread)

*psssst* yes you! You have just been inducted into the Map makers guild. We shape the world with an unseen hand and make everything you see and what you dont see.

You have just come into the Debate hall where we discuss what to make happen and what to not happen. After all we cant just go and shape the world at random, we need an idea.

As new member of the unseen hand you may now participate in our debates and supply ideas.

(switches to normal mode)

Right, no one has made a map making thread in quite a while so i decided to make it the new objective on my list.

If you dont know how to make maps its ok! We are discussing ideas right now. All there is to be done is to throw out ideas to the crowd and maybe a experienced map maker will be inspired by that idea and will make it happen.

Everything related to ideas will be here.

Campaign ideas, map ideas, scenario ideas, even terrain making ideas.

if this thread receives enough attention i may make a thread relating to the other aspects of map making.

im sure allot of people(Fiur) will be happy about this thread.

Current ideas

(Zamfir) Heroes V map with a Narrator hero

I think this thread belongs to the MapHaven, but...

It would be nice to see a H5 map with a Narrator, like in Corribus's H3 masterpiece, Sander s Folly.

For those who didn't played the map, the idea was simple: an additional hero, the Narrator, was added on the map with the sole intent to tell the story. He featured in a zone completely separated from the rest of the map, and unreachable even with adventure spells: the Time Tunnel.

The Time Tunnel was, as it's name tells, just a narrow passage, filled with text events. You have to stay still with the Narrator. He will be told by text events triggered on the real map when to move forward (e.g. you conquer the town Ma'Goon and are told to move forward with the Narrator). The Narrator will move and trigger the appropiate text event that tells the next part of the story.

i might have played it but wasnt it called young at heart or golden heart?

Just to clarify it for myself, the protagonist broke his leg in the desert and is rescued by nomads on the way you see an obelisk guarded by an angel and chose whether or not to fight him.

Then you go to the nomad city and go to a tent where an old woman treats your wound and says something like "You men always think that you are tough and can walk off anything."

but after that i stoped playing because i was to little to appreciate the true art of it

i know what you mean though and that would be a wonderful idea!

No, they are two different maps, but they are made by the same map maker. GoldHeart came with the idea, and Sander's Folly improved the concept.

There's no link between the maps, but GoldHeart is mentioned in the Narrator's introduction ("His Timelessness was very satisfied with your work before, in the Land of Aryth, and although the story of Roger Valkynborg was a grim one, you recorded the story with expertise and a lack of bias")

And that Elga (woman 'who can fix leg') said:  "Men always think themselves impervious to injury, even when they're injured!"

EDIT: As you can see, I have a cult for these two maps.

It would be nice. I never considered 'Battle of the Sexes' a good title for H5 map; I would call it "Damsel in Distress".

Btw, a H5 map with Narrator would require a text mod, since H5's text boxes are way too little.

hmmm... how much do you think you could do with a sign post?

Go to a sign post for every event, but that would cost you huge in movement points

No, because a single signpost contains the whole chapter, and the Narrator is required to move once per month.

EDIT: My mistake, signposts only announce chapter's beginning/ending. A (very long) text event contains the story. Only 1 event.

A big map, preferably.

And I saw a nice text mod in Legends of the Ancients.

I think you should make the Narrator a Wizard (with normal Wizard appearance; not Zehir). The terrain can be either snow or sand, and those troops must disappear.

EDIT: This is my try.

Were not duplicating gold heart
The troops are there to give you a bit more difficulties, you will need to fight on two fronts from now on, The real world and the narrators world(The world where all the "books" action takes place).

In the begining you start out with your narrator who just doesent feel like joining the party and is thinking about writing a book, He wants to leave the party but is immediately confronted by a bully who pushes you back into the party and that will be your first encounter. You fight the bully to get away.

I simply see no need for the narator to be a wizard, i like Duncans model better but i would like to change the face icon to that of the narrator from gold heart.
