United States President: 2012

Maybe it's a bit early for this thread - after all, who knows what'll happen in the next three years? But the speculation is beginning, and so I think this subject's time has come: who will win the 2012 Presidential Election?

Potential Democratic Candidates
Barack Obama

Potential Republican Candidates
Mitt Romney
Mike Huckabee
Bobby Jindal
Sarah Palin
John Thune
Ron Paul

Of course, it is extremely unlikely that the Democratic nominee will be somebody that isn't named "Barack Hussein Obama", but the Republican field is a lot more open. Personally, I think Romney has the best chance of winning the nomination - although it's too soon to tell how the general election will turn out. I'm still supporting Ron Paul if he runs, although he's rather getting on in years.

Recent news: Sarah Palin resigns from the position of Governor of Alaska.

Depending on what Palin does now, it may be Palin. She is more popular among Republica voters I think.

She in resigning on July 26 and hasn't made clear why she is doing so yet. Possibly she is spending some time with her family before beginning a push to become the Republican candidate.

I would count Ron Paul out. He has some good ideas but doesn't have any charisma.

I agree that Romney is the most electable in the general election. However whether he'll win in the primary is more questionable. I regrettably think Palin has a lot of potential to win in the primary even though she'd almost certainly get chewed apart in the general.

I don't think any of them even compare to Ron Paul, although he'll be 76 by 2012, which is very old, and he's not at all electable even if he were a lot younger. There just aren't enough classic liberals around and he has a tendency to use too much academic lingo, but I'll still futilely vote for him either way.  His son is almost identical with his views and he's running for senator in '10, so maybe he'll step up for the presidency in '16 if Obama goes for 2 terms.

I don't like Palin, at all. I hope that someone else will be the nominee for 2012...

It may seem that way now, but once she gets up there on the debate stage with Romney and Huckabee, she won't be so appealing.

Yeah, I don't buy it for a second, especially when it's just coming from another talking head.

I am not sure it is going to matter to be frankly honest.  Obama could be the worst president ever, and probably still get elected again.  However, I think the smartest move would be for the opposition to find another African-American or Female and back them (and prey it is not Palin).  Would give them the best shot in my opinion.

Well, the total vote count was still voting on Gore, it's just that the american election system is... A bit... Indirect in it's democracy.

EDT: let's leave it at that! I don't care whether he would've really won or whether it were bricked elections or corruption.

That is far north right?  With the ice?  (sorry couldn't resist).  Sadly some people can't even tell you where Iowa is, or the capitals of the states.  However, we might want to hold our elected officials to a higher standard.  I have nothing against Palin, but she is just not the right person for the job.

Sry, also couldn't resist

Palin did show incredible ignorance a couple of times, though. I agree that she's really not suited for such a job.
