Underdogs (IC)

Xinkz woke up with a terrible headache.  Usually he would hurry up out of bed, and begin doing his assigned duties for fear that the cheif would beat him again.  Today his head was clearer then usual, and he felt..different.  Stronger..smarter, maybe that is why his head hurt.  He finally made it out of bed.

As soon as he was outside Hoxa thundered toward him.  "Xinkz should  be workin!  Get to work!" as usual Hoxa was doing what most goblins did best, bully those smaller then them.  Hoxa was rather large for a goblin..almost 5'2" and thick.  It was suggested he might have part ogre in his bloodline.  Hoxa threw a meaty fist toward Xinkz.  Normally Xinkz would have been way to slow, or scared, and gotten knocked to the ground.  This time something was different and he easily stepped to the side.

Of course this infuriated Hoxa even more, if possible, as he was caught off balanced and ended up crashing to the ground.  "Xinkz gonna get it now.  Hoxa will make you pay!" roared the larger Goblin as he got up and dusted himself off.  He charged Xinkz, but Xinkz was no longer standing where Hoxa expected him to be.  What's more Xinkz landed a blow to Hoxa's knee..and it HURT.  Hoxa was not used to being hurt.

With a roar Hoxa tried to overpower Xinkz, and Xinkz was wide eyed the whole time.  Not only did he not know how he was able to do what he was doing, he wasn't even trying.  He wanted to run and hide, but for some reason his body had other thoughts.  Unfortunately he could hear Hoxa's guards coming.  Finally he had no choice, and made a break for it while Hoxa was only able to limp.  He probably could have beaten Hoxa, and become chief, but for some reason he had a vague impression there was something more out there...

Chapter 476, Hard Times

In the <name> society, the Orcs kick around the goblins, the goblins kick around the kobolds, and the kobolds kick around the rocks, which is what makes them such efficient diggers.

This is what the mine looks like.

Id use words to describe these stuff but I dont know that many. Here we dont take time to say what something looks like, all we say is det its ugly, very ugly, or ugly as Grub.

This is Grub, our “overseer”. More like a big fat maggot if you ask me.

There still needs to be an overseer, 'n  for good reasons. To get ahead you need to eliminate the others((competition)). The overseer is here to notice dat.

He puts food on plates for us, if he did less we would be hacking at him with these rocky pickaxes.

This is the regular meal of a kobold.

Best cooked on the open fire, and hided from the other kobolds.

Not admiring of the forces of “evil” now, are you?
Get this, We actually need to fight them((them2)), puh just jocking, we would be lucky if we fought that, we fight this. Not so grand eh? Better die at the sword of one of the pinkies than mine yourself to death.

Pinkies look a bit like Dis.

Cept some are more flat on the breather((chest)).

“Evil” has really gone down the drain since those heroes began theyre “crusades” to bring justice to the land, whats funny is they ended up replacing us. And the circle((cycle)) repeated.

Yes, life in the mines can be depressing, your epic battle here is avoiding being punted into an orcs stew.

Ive been keeping this paper thing for 476 Chapters.

I found this paper thing awhile back. I saw pinkies using a stick to scratch on this.

I can peek at this an remember where to get shinnies from and where I dug already.

Bunch o' kobolds be diging in the same place and keep diging out zero.

Quefek stowed the magic scroll into a small pocket in his bag that he kept on his back. He walked out of the mine into a camp made of tents and buildings made from mulch, rotten wood and gray stones.

He emptied his bag to reveal blackish stones mixed with copper pebbles. Quefek got one of the plates staked on a table. He held his plate up  and watched as Grub splotched a dosage of smashed((mashed)) potato with a few bugs sticking theyre legs out of it.

He went to his bush only to find another kobold sleeping there.

It had been about a week since Xinkz had left the mining camp.  Things had been pretty rough all around.  He wasn't welcome in most towns, and his kind had no desire to let him in either.  Although his new awareness gave him some benifits, he had been forced to scrounge around.  Not that this was new to him, he had been scrounging since birth.

He was washing in a small pond, which was a new experience.  Before he really had no desire or incentive to bathe.  He heard a kind of hissing sound behind him and twirled around just in time to see fur and teeth coming at his face.  Before he could react it landed a rather sharp claw on his left cheek, and knocked him to the ground.  A panther had noticed him in the water and decided it was more hungry then weary of the water.  His only saving grace was that it had been starved for some time and was not as strong as it could have been.

The two creatures rolled around for some time, and Xinkz deffinately was getting the worst of the deal.  While the feline was weakened from hunger, the suprise attack had taken its toll on him.  It was pure fate and luck that saved him, in the form of a rather large bass.  He managed to grab it and stuff it in the felines mouth. Distracted by the tasty morsal, the feline lost all interest in the smelly gangly creature in its paws.  It raced off toward shore to finish the tasty fish it now had.

Panting and injured Xinkz lay for awhile on the shore once he managed to crawl there.  He heard somebody coming, but was too weak and injured to get up and hide.

"Haha! Get him to drink another!"

Yelling and laughing filled a tavern full of drunk humans, and, what would appear to be, a drunk kobold. The kobold was running around, biting and scratching the humans, or trying to at least. The humans circled around the kobold, shifting positions, and throwing objects in its path. Some were attempting to pour alcohol in its mouth as it passed by, snapping at what it could.

The kobold pressed on, running around the room that didn't seem to stand still, filled with muffled noises of laughter and mockery. Escapes to the door were made, but each time, the kobold was redirected back into the center of the room of horror.

The kobold began to become very dizzy, and eventually tripped over the back of a chair. That wouldn't have been too much of a problem, but the head connected with a fallen table top. The lights and sounds got dimmer, until they faded completely away.

Later, the kobold found itself in a cage. A cage it was far too familiar with. The cage was in the room of the keeper of this establishment. He was the one to capture this kobold, to serve as his slave.

Three. Three nights of torture. Torture, yes, but also a little fun. Though, that bit of fun started with, and ended after, the first drink. Then they started their wagering on how much the kobold could handle before it passed out. Tired of it! Tired of the humans, and their ways! The alcohol was alright, for what it was, but they weren't!

Frustrated with the situation, the kobold struck the bars of the cage. The cage made a click, then a small creaking sound as the door slowly opened. The kobold stood in shock. That is, until the keep went rushing in, noticing the cage no longer doing what it was designed to do.

The kobold looked at the keep, quite worried of what was to happen next. That only lasted a couple seconds, until it realise that escape may just be possible.

The kobold rushed out of the cage, and crawled as fast as it could atop the bed. The keep lunged for the creature, but it jumped up, landing on his back, and started running down him like a ramp. The kobold darted out the door, and almost out the tavern, but then thought of something. It went behind the counter, and grabbed a bottle of whatever seemed to be alcohol, then made a break for it. Not too soon either.

The keeper came charging out of his room, almost tripping over his own feet. The kobold couldn't reach the knob too easily before, especially carrying the bottle, but with the fright received just then, and an extra boost to the jump, the knob was reached, and the door opened.

Without a moments hesitation, the kobold went rushing out of the tavern, and made for the quickest exit from the small city as was possible.

-happening at mythicals location-

"Stop!" an elf voice yelled
"Wut ye tink yer doin!?! screamed a fat dwarf from behind the bush.
"He's a creature of nature, you cannot harm him!" said the elf who jumped in front of the goblin blocking the sight of the dwarven hunter.
"Elves" the dwarf sighed and loaded his crosbow he tried to aim past the elf but he kept blocking him.
"Run, goblin ,run do not let the mad dwarf take you!" said the elf still blocking the hunter.
"For the love of..." said the dwarf who came point blank and ((biatch)) slapped the elf.
"I get paid for this you ni-ni-muffin of a fool" said the dwarf who was one of the most feared hunters in the forest.
"Golan Iron fist and his gold, "Oooh look at me, i have a bag of gold, ne-ne-ne"" said the elf in a mocking voice that was just begging for a beating.
"Your full of it!" said the dwarf.
The two started fighting while Xinx slipped away quietly.
-back at my location-
Kobods usually stole everything. Even what was useless to them.

But this was to much.

Quefek rolled the sleeping kobold to the nearby stream, very easily thanks to the down slope his bush was on.

The kobold rolled and rolled until he fell into the stream where he was taken away by the current.

Quefek laid down where his bush was and went to sleep.

Kreishna skittered through the dark streets, ignored by the few inhabitants out so late as trash. Her night vision kept her out of serious trouble; the town of Autumnbridge was mostly human, and the only permanent resident not of the Guild with similar abilities was the dwarven blacksmith.

The Guild was a ‘new’ arrival, within the last few months, after one of Yralik’s band of brigands had stumbled upon their current headquarters during a nasty storm. Unseasonably bad weather had later driven the band out of the hills surrounding Autumnbridge into the little hideaway, and upon settling in their new den, Yralik had decided to convert his band of highwaykobolds into an official Thieves’ Guild.

They didn’t do what anyone outside the Guild would call serious thievery—not like most of the Guild seemed to think it was. Foodstuffs, mostly, copper coins, the occasional bit of brass jewelry. Their biggest heist to date was a single break-in on the west side of town: an entire bushel of apples from the cider mill on the river there, and a small bag of copper pieces from same. Kreishna was very proud of her current prize; clutched in her claws was a meat pie, half-eaten but nearly fresh. Most of what the Guild ate was the chewed over scrapings they normally scavenged out of the humans’ garbage.

The Guild headquarters was an abandoned house on the edge of town. Kreishna slipped through the overgrown gardens and into a narrow crevice that served as a back door, worming her way into the cellar below.

As Xinkz stumbled away from the road, he was not watching where he was going.  Exhusted, injured, he stumbled through the nearby brush not sure where he was going, or why.  Finally fatigue and injury got the best of him, and he stumbled.  Normally, his new found abilities would have allowed him to catch himself but he was too far gone.  He tumbled down the hill, unconcsious.  Had he been awake, he would have noticed that he stopped suddenly when he hit something.

As it was, he was laying bleeding at the feet of somebody.  He was no longer conscious, and in bad shape.  Had he managed to stay at the road, he would have been slightly injured.  With the tumble it would be a very close call if he did not recieve help.

Almost losing his balance, and sending the bottle to the ground, the kobold recovered. He looked around. No keeper. Great, but more distance is greatly needed. What to do with this goblin, though? Surely the goblin would be taken as a replacement, if it was needed. Perhaps the keeper would stop his pursuit, settling for the goblin? Indeed, he might, but did the goblin even deserve such treatment any more? No. Can't say the goblin does. Though, was the keeper even still following? Too hard to say, and best not to chance it.

The kobold looks at the size of the goblin, and then the size of the bottle. Carrying both would prove to be very difficult. Popping the bottle open, the kobold starts drinking its contents, and grabs hold of the goblin's clothing. The kobold starts dragging with only the one hand, but eventually gives up on the bottle, and drags the goblin with both. The bottle is not lost, however, as it is placed in the goblins lap, in hopes it will stay there, until a nice hiding place can be found, for some rest.

The cellar that served as the Guild’s inner sanctum was earthy and overgrown with roots. Several of her fellows greeted her in Draconic as she appeared and added her prize to the group’s stash of stolen goods.

There was the sound of scraping metal off in the corner as two of the more hot-headed males got into a quarrel over their petty exploits. Yralik himself snapped at the two of them and swatted them over the heads until they stopped; Kreishna settled herself into a corner to watch.

Yralik was tall for a kobold though spindly, with scales the color of rust and a golden disk always hung around his neck. (Brass, in fact. It had been someone’s cup saucer and gotten scavenged out of the garbage like most of the Guild’s possessions. But it was very shiny.) By kobold standards he was reasonably good-looking; though his scales and claws were a bit chipped around the edges, that was true of everyone in the Guild thanks to their less-than-stellar lifestyle and not enough nutritious food. The hot-heads he was disciplining were perhaps half-a-head shorter than he, one nearly black in color, the other a reddish-tan with vivid black markings.

The squabbling cut off with deadly abruptness, but as no one fell to the floor bleeding that couldn’t be the reason why. Then the whole Guild stilled as deer in the eyes of the wolves, holding silent; outside the building was the sound of several footsteps.

Xinxz woke up tired and hurt.  He had no clue where he was, or how he got there. There was a sound of snoring, but right now he could barely move let alone figure out where the sound was coming from.  The place he was in was a small cove, probably near some river or something.  As he lay there he realised he could mend his body a little, how he could do this was a mystery.  Using the ability Mend, his body reversed the damage somewhat, but not much.

Doing this exhusted him, however.  He drifted back off to sleep, knowing that at the rate he could do this, it would take days to get well.

Though Quefek was yet to discover this, the next few days would be a turning point in his life.

While he was sleeping he was himself rolled down the hill.

He went over rocks, tree branches and roots. An ominous cracking could be heard as he tumbled into the stream, and being not much bigger than it, he was swept away by the pull of the river.

He was at the end of the journey. There was a small lake that had an island in the middle. A dead tree was still hanging about the island when Quefek was propelled in its direction. He hit the tree squarely in the middle and the forces ripped out the already fragile roots.

He was knocked back by the force of impact and landed down on the sandy island.

His head throbbed allot but he was still ok.
He realized that he didnt know how to swim so escape from the island was imosible.

He started to yell for help in the squeaks and grunts of the kobold tongue.

Chapter 205 of Ifrans book "Ifrans hermit life gets disturbed"

Ifran came back from his evenly food hunt, this night had been quite nice, as it had not only fished himself a fish, but caught two mices and one bird too.

"Tonight be feast night." Ifran mumbles to itself

Unfortunatly its happines was soon broke when it came back to the cave and smelled the present of two strange beings.
Hiding the food near the entrance, Ifran grabbed his pointy stick and started sneaking into the cave.

"What is the world coming too?" it thought "when an old hermit has to sneak into his own cave!"

Getting closer, Ifran could see that the two intruders was an tired Kobold and an injured Goblin. Ifran first sneaked to the Goblin and lifted his stick, ready to strike. But looking down on the injured goblin, Ifran lowered his stick and felt a sense of pity on the creature.

"Hmpf!" It thought "Now I must waste the night getting out gathering herbs for healing soup. And get wood for the fire I must make now, as I got two guests that probally wont eat raw fish."
Angry, Ifran mumbles "Tonight not be feast night. Tonight be work night!"

Xinxz woke up to a distant cry for help, and the smell of cooking fish.  He wasn't really aware of his surroundings, but his better nature kicked in.  Carefully getting up, dispite his wound, he shambled out of the cave.  His mind was yelling to him "That is a kobold call, do not follow it.", but his new found sense of right and wrong was driving him like a human drove a cart.

He came upon a struggling form in some water, trapped.  He couldn't understand a word it said, but it was obviously in some distress.  With all of his might he pulled the creature free, threw it over his shoulder and carried it back to the cave.  Mere steps in the cave his new strength gave out and he had no choice but to uncerimoniously dump the figure.  Suprisingly he was feeling much better, despite the injuries.  Instead of a fitful, painful sleep, he fell into a restful healing one.

Kreishna listened carefully and realized there were other sounds too; the rustling of cloth and a light scraping sound, like chalk on stone. Every now and then a set of muffled hooves would clop on the ground outside, while gruff voices bickered and argued softly.

Kreishna scrambled back up the hole that served as a back door as far as she dared to hear better; she spoke bad Common, but understood something about a ritual…most of the words were too soft to make out; apparently the speakers were out where they shouldn’t be as well.

The scraping and muttering had gone on for long enough that members of the Guild were growing restless. Then began a whispered, rhythmic murmuring that would have been a chant if it were not so soft. It was neither Common nor Draconic, but an odd tongue that made Kreishna feel tired and ill listening to it.

There was a scream from one of the Guild farthest in; the entire building was beginning to warp. Tree roots writhed and wriggled like entrails, and the Guild member who had screamed watched in horror as his own arm grew large and twisted before his eyes.

This prompted a mass exodus from the Guild hideout. Kreishna was nearly torn from her perch by larger and stronger kobolds trying mindlessly to flee, but she managed to scramble out with nearly half-a-dozen others through the murmurers gathered around the building. The taller figures shouted in surprise, some drawing knives or small warhammers; a kobold death-scream sounded behind her as one of the Guild was cut down. Kreishna scurried as fast as she could manage, barely daring to look back, only glimpsing a set of human (?) figures in robes, and a single centaur (!?!) as she bolted away.

She made it to the river that passed the cider mill a short time later; no one had joined her, and several more kobold death-screams had assaulted the night air since her escape. When over an hour passed and no one else appeared, she consoled herself that perhaps the survivors were further down the river, and set off downstream to find them.

Quefek tumbled from the goblins grip and rolled on the rocky floor.
He felt the candle squish againts the helmet, the coldness of the candle chilling his tiny kobold bones.

(- )

he kept rolling until he hit a solid object.

He scrambled up from the floor to fight whatever he had bumped into.

It was a rock. Not that much of a challenge but a fight none the less.
He circled the rock his fists making gestures as though he was in a boxing match.

The rock was smooth and shiny, its gray color blending perfectly with the ordinary rocks. It sat perfectly still. There was a cracking noise and the rock cracked to reveal crab legs, crab eyes, and crab arms.

The stone was about the same size as Quefek, its eyes were like marbles, black and endless.

Quefek punched the crab in  between the eyes and it stumbled from the shock. It clicked its claws menacingly.

His pick axe lay abandoned a few steps from the goblin.

Quefek ran to it and grabbed the pickaxe.

He circled the crab, ready for the fight.

Kuddin rolls over, awakening to the sounds of another kobold moving about. He pushes himself to a sitting position and sees a blurred form resembling a kobold. Blinking a few times, he is able to get his vision clear enough to see what's happening. Apparently, the kobold seems to be fighting a rock.

Without hesitation, Kuddin quickly checks his bottle of alcohol. None of its remaining contents seem to be missing. He lets out a sigh of relief. He looks back towards the kobold. Maybe he found some other alcohol? Something a bit stronger, maybe? Perhaps, but where was the bottle? There was none that he could see.

How and why was this kobold here anyway? Thinking about it for a few seconds, Kuddin just ended up not caring all that much, at this point in time.

Kuddin ignored the seemingly drunk, without being drunk, kobold, and looked for the goblin that he drug to this cave. He seemed to be in a different position than he was left in, and looking a tiny bit better. Kuddin thought of pouring some alcohol down his mouth, to see what he would do, but chose against it in the end. Might choke the goblin. Instead, he turned back, and watched the kobold fight... something.

Quefek circled the crab. It took the crab a bit longer to turn around than it took him, but Quefeks heavy pick axe was not made for battle.

The crab swiped his claw at Quefek, who jumped to avoid it, but was caught square in the hip by the next blow.

Quefek slid away from the crab, his pick axe catching a ride.

He got back to his feet and held the pick axe steady.

The crab took another swipe, but this time Quefek backed away and raised the mining pick high above his head and plunged it in the crabs impeccable shell. With a firm grip on the pick axe, Quefek jumped on the back of the crab.

The Rock crab panicked and tried to unseat him by making wild jumps and turns, but the kobold held on for dear life.

Finally the rock crab ran in its crab like way to a squat passageway, much to small for a kobold to go through.

Quefek was to slow to realize this and hit a solid rock wall, while the crab escaped under the wall, thanks to its underground tunnels.

The impact had caused a few rocks to roll off theyre piles, and block the entryway while Quefek still had a foot there.

His reactions were slow and he couldent move his foot in time.

He was now trapped, left to the mercy of whoever was watching him now.
Thankfully enough it wasnt God, or else he would have been struck by lightning. But someone else...

Kreishna’s head perked up at the sounds of fighting ahead. It wasn’t a large fight, by any means, but perhaps one of the Guild…?

Kreishna scrambled up a hill, searching for the source of the sound. She hadn’t seen any movement in the river but perhaps a bend had hidden it…no, it wasn’t there…

At last, at the sound of a small rockfall, Kreishna found the entrance of a cave below her. Poking her head in, she spotted a pair of unfamiliar kobolds and an unconscious goblin inside and upside down.

Ifran was returing to its cave. It had caught alot of food for itself, the kobold and the goblin, enough to feed atleast 10 people.

"Fish, squirles, birds, eggs and mices. Enough food for Ifran. If Ifran alone, it would last a whole week!" Ifran said.

When he got to its cave it let go of the food in a pile, right besides the wood it had found and the healing herbs. There was enough water in its cave, and Ifran prepared to carry the wood into the cave. In its hard work, it did not notice the smell of more kobolds.
Silently, Ifran walked into its cave without being noticed or notice anyone else. It let the wood down and made two piles; One to ignite, another to feed.
Ifran now used its two flint stones to make fire, and it was not before the fire had ignited that Ifran saw that the cave was now full of Kobolds, who all were looking quite surprised at it.

"WHAT?! MORE KOBOLDS! DO NOT FOR A SECOND THINK THAT YOU ARE GONNA GET TO INFEST IFRAN'S CAVE AND START DIGGING FOR ROCKS!" Ifran shouted "Out! OUT OF IFRAN'S CAVE!"
Ifran held up his short pointy stick and tried to look as intimidating as possible.
