I have a question. Would it be possible to implement a 3D engine overlay to VCMI? What I mean is, is it possible to have a 3D layer which could add 3D effects to the 2D art? Let's say you cast a magic arrow, could that arrow then bleed light into the ground as it passes above it? Stuff like that. Some games like Age of Wonders 2 uses a mix of 2D and 3D, that's what I thought of.

Macron1 is feature presented in H6 and similar to this Salamandre make in his map TEW IV by ERM.

We can convert any enemy and neutral town to fit our faction.

Don't think 3d effects will be needed for VCMI.
Now feature of 32-bit graphics replacing DEF files is only possible for town screens.
I think, in future there possibility of 32-bit graphics will be implemented for adventure map/battle animation of creatures. And there some light effects and creatures transparency will be possible.

I think it is not possible in a way like in HMM6, because it's boring feature. And town buildings sets may be different for factions so full convert is barely possible.
Maybe in future it will be possible to destroy buildings like in WOG and to convert town like in WOG.

While some people may want it as an option, I hope it doesn't get added. It's a very boring idea, imo. Mixing armies'll always be part of the fun

IMO the strongest point of Heroes games prior to H4 is the 2D, clear readability and precise game-play/handling commands. H4 is very beautiful but we start to stagger on adventure map, then in battle, the ambiguous 2D towards 3D graphics are confusing.

Then of course all is totally screwed starting with H5. I am confident in VCMI team, they know what makes H3 the best game from the series and won't mess with unnecessary eye candies.

Well, if you find a 3D library that works on all possible platforms and merge it with the rest of graphic engine, feel free to do that

Still, fancy eyecandies are low on priority list, especially if they don't help the gameplay (like improved interface, for example).

Yes, that's much more important IMO. 32-bit renders and transparency are easy to handle and will fit original game graphics.

Well, I was just interested if such was possible in theory and what people thought of it. It wasn't a request, nor worded as such. But after feeling it more out, I think am in the same camp; that it isn't really needed and not even necessarily a good thing for the HMM3 feel.

What even makes you think these are "only graphics"? They all work as normal.

The mod is unfortunatelly not finished yet.

VCMI 0.95 was postponed to March 1st. Still, development version 0.94d is coming, possibly followed by others.

VCMI is not a mod. From the project site:
