What's black and white and red all over?

So, do you still read newspapers? I do.

Every morning I enjoy The New York Times. Frankly, it's because my wife gets it for free on the campus. I usually browse International first (believe it or not), then check Arts, Editorials and Letters. Love the Science Times on Tuesdays, of course.

Sadly the NYT doesn't carry comics, but I get those in the student paper.

Back home I was subscribed to the local version of Time magazine, so I love to pick up its American counterpart. Also our Computer World, simply because the columnists are great. I also get a scattering of other weeklies and monthlies - everything and anything really; I think I even got a copy of Bowhunter somewhere, although I abhor hunting (but am fascinated by bows like every elf wannabe ).

Oh I get news on the Internet, mind you, it's just that I love  newspapers - I love to touch them, carry them, fold them, smell them, put my coffee on them, take them to bed and the toilet, take a nap with them on my face. Arguably I could do all those things with my laptop, but it's just not the same.

So what about you? Ever read newspapers and magazines? Still get some? Why (not)? Is it nostalgia or something else? Any suggestions?

I'm interested in what old farts think, but even more in our younger members' opinion, who presumably didn't grow up with the "dead tree edition".

I don't read newspapers, mostly because they only have local BS that I honestly don't care about.

More I visit on sites of news channels like cnn and bbc.

Btw, by magazine do you mean those things that have no to little essential info on them and have plastic like pages?

I learn about 90% or more of current events off of the internet.

I never read the newspaper to any significant degree, partially because I never got in the habit, and also because I don't like how big and floppy they are. I do a good amount of heavy reading (novels, scholarly books) but I was never big on light reading with papers and magazines and such, unless I'm sitting in a doctors office.

Also, with internet, I can selectively catch the stuff that interests me. With a newspaper I'd have to throw out the local & sports sections among other things. It's getting worse these days because the cheapest stories to cover that still attract attention decently are on celebrities, which there's a 98% chance I won't care about.

Well, i read them. From time to time. And that is like once per month.
And i tend to read the comics before going plowing trough the rest of the paper, which is filled with news that could have been more serious.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the newspaper format - having to fold and unfold it, etc. I prefer magazines, or reading stuff online.
I occasionally read New York Times and Wall Street Journal opinion columns, but that's it. Then again, my experience with newspapers otherwise has been rather negative. The only newspapers people read where I lived in Oklahoma were the Daily Oklahoman (an insanely conservative paper) and the local one, which had headlines like [Name of local man] Celebrates 90th Birthday. So naturally I was not inclined to read them.

I don't read newspapers very often, that would be my father Usually when he gets one on weekends I tend to check them out, read international or local developments, science, a look in arts and movies. Same goes when newsweek or the time arrives, he has subscribed so I often take a look there, good English. Used to read weekly magazines back in the day but nothing in particular now, content ranging from georama experiment to comix.

And yes it feels good to have something tangible in your hands and take your time reading it. Reading on the pc somehow puts me off.

I get my news on the internet and television.  Never was a fan of the newspaper, except for the NYT crossword.

I subscribe to Time Magazine, mostly out of habbit.

I subscribe to several cooking maganizes.

I used to take an interest in The Irish Times, a left-wing 150 year old rag, it being the only one we could afford at the time.  We later got a colour TV (you heard me) and invested more and more attention in that.  I'm considered pretty old-fashioned for my age but even so I just don't feel any great attraction to (our) papers; they're crappily printed, clunky and what with television and the net I never really think to get them.  About a hundred years of their archives can actually be viewed on the interweb pretty cheaply, which is sort of an answer in itself.

The only magazines I've ever willingly purchased were related to gaming or computing, and even then I slowly began to stop when demo discs went out of fashion (around 2002?).  I did once read an eighty-year-old weekly British comic every single week up to the age of 11 though, which has since managed to drive itself off a cliff in terms of popularity.  Might have been Family Guy syndrome.  Since I'm Irish, I've never subscribed to any printed media (about 75% of decent material is imported, which makes doing so a risk).

I subscribe to Time Magazine as well, although I've been disappointed with some of their recent writings - it sounds like an organ of the Democratic Party. I used to subscribe to The Economist, which is an excellent magazine, but ridiculously expensive.

The fact that a lot of our media comes from overseas means subscribing was a real pain when I was younger.  You'd send off for a subscription and get a return to sender because you're living too far away, or even in rare cases never see your money again.  Admittedly I'm not qualified to speak for shopping catalogues or whatever, it's only my limited experience I'm referring to, but quite a few of those gaming magazines I used to read forgot, especially in the past, to include "Available to UK residents only".

I get my news from radio, TV, and the internet. With the ready access to news on demand I think newspapers will continue to have trouble. Especially the ones that don't try to be objective in their reporting. I hate for reporters to editorialize when they are supposed to be reporting. I want commentaries and editorials to be clearly labeled as such, not mixed in with the news. I am quite capable of making up my own mind on the issues without the journalist's "help."

I actually get most of my information from a newspaper. We're subscribed to two newspapers, both of which I read.
My morning just isn't the same if I can't read them when I have my morning cup-o-joe. I can get quite cranky when I have to cut my morning routine short and skip reading the newspapers. I'd rather get out of my bed 30 mins earlier than skip them.

Absolutely

I could never stop reading the newspapers. I enjoy the adherance to grammar and the effort at attention-grabbing. And ofcourse...I could never miss reading my favorite comics! I read Garfield first, then Mother Goose, next is Wizard of ID, and Farside, Peanuts Gang, Dilbert, and the rest are the ones I can't remember. I think Family Circus is in there.

I read newspapers quite a lot. Mostly political collums. And sports. Magazines... Lithuanian edition of PC Gamer, Autocar and various fishing and hunting magazines. I read lithuanian edition of Auto Bild also, but stopped due to lack of information and crappy rewievs. It had good advices for buying used cars though, but paying a euro for that isn't worth it. It saddens me that such mags destroys the local print.
