Heroes 2 on Vista 64 bit.

Alright so I have spend hours trying to make this work so I'll keep it short.

Basicly the problem is that the installer is 16 bit. This means theres no way I can ever install the game on the computer. However the game itself is run from a 32 bit program, which my computer will happily run.

So to get this to work, I installed the game on my laptop (which is vista 32 bit), and everything is working fine on that. I copied the installation folder from there, and the wing32.dll and put them in their respective directories.

However I get the "Couldn't find wing32.dll" everytime I try to run the game. I have placed the wing32.dll in sysmte32 folder where it should be, but apparently thats the only place the game can't find it, cause if its anywhere else, it seems that its found it, but its in the wrong directory.

Any have any ideas on how to get around this?

You could always install Microsoft VirtualPC and install and older Windows OS (got a Win 98 or 2k Cd laying around?) that uses little resources and just run it in there.

Just be sure to install the VM extras/addons or whatever they're called. It's in the "action" menu. (I'd recommend the 64 bit version for you, but 32 will also run fine. Just the 64-bit one will let you use more than 3gb between multiple virtual OS' if you feel like using so many)

That reply makes no sense. The reason I can't install the game is cause a 64 bit system can't used a 16 bit file, and you suggest I go on virtual PC (which has NO graphic capabilities AT ALL, and I believe at least some is required for all games) and install another 64 bit version?

I appreciate your interest in helping, but man

Virtual PC has more than enough graphic capabilities to play Homm 1-4 (which really didn't require anything special). The "graphic capabilities" you mentioned all depend on the OS you install.

I don't know anything about Vista 64 really though. Sorry =(

I've tried heroes2 in virtual pc.. doesn't look so good.. I would recommend currently vmware.. it's better for 64 bit.. it's the only solution I know off..

(only reason to run 64 bit is for the benefit of 4 Gb+ ram.. have 4 Gb on my laptop and 6 Gb on my desktop.. so stuck on 64 bit..)

In this case I am running it on vmware 6.5.2 on windows 7 ultimate..
