BS lol.

Kids do alot of things when they are young.
It does not consume you. Many kids experiment & then they move on.

I cant help that you sit & play computer games 24/7. I guess that makes you a better person huh LOL?

I got a word for it but i cant use it in this community.

I haven't played a game in months, thanks for assumptions.

I have a friend who has an alcoholic dad and beats up his wife (obviously). If he were a WoW addict at least he would have left the rest of the world alone -- plus not trashing his health as he's doing it now.

Yes too much computers can make you physically weak or unsocial, but alcohol is far more damaging. (except few, like wine, which in small amounts can be healthy -- however getting DRUNK is the problem here that I quoted from you).

Look I am not saying that drinking is good. I dont drink like I used to back in my 20's.
I am sure most know how I am when i drink.
I do drink on Occasions so dont get any ideas

All I am saying is that there is alot of fun things to do out in the world.
It does not have to be evolved around the computer.

Many fun examples good or bad.

There is a direct correlation between the current child obesity rate and the recent mainstreaming of the internet.

I'm sorry but you can't deny that.

Most kids don't even play sports anymore, it's horrible.

Sorry, but you know you can get drunk WITHOUT having any of that? Me and my friends have been drunk a lot and just before we go to sleep, we drink a litre or so of water, then wake up and feel just fine. If we didn't do that then we would get headaches and throwing up.

I agree with Acu though. I guess I'm still addicted to the computer but I'm spending far less time on it these days. I have tAFE to go to, spending time with my gf, going out with mates to the pub or clubs and just having fun. I find it, in the long run, to be much more satisfying and enjoyable than sitting here on the computer.

I dont know, I think it is a blessing & a curse personally.

I wish I had Phonics & good computers in my days.
It would of made things easier.

You learn alot from the net.
Plus buying things makes it easier.
Except for the businesses that went down because of online shopping

Curse i think is that it makes people more lazy.
They dont want to do anything because it is all handed to them on the net.

I went to the park with over 30 people.
Chatting around, playing Volley ball, baseball & Basketball.
Hitting up some grub & seeing old faces i have not seen in yrs.

I would do that any day over the net.

Face it, it's just fun.

If you need some sort of ego booster, like "I'm better than those stupid nerds that sit in front of their PC all day", you must feel a nerd at heart and thus want to get rid of that "shameful" memory by denial

In other words, to even THINK about how computer damaged your life you must be very insecure about yourself.

Me? I don't give a damn. I sit and play games. I laugh at people who think getting drunk or "going out" is any better. There is no damn difference. You do what is entertaining to you. If you think one way of entertainment is better than others, you are either insecure (because of peer pressure, most likely), or a conformist who has to live like everyone else, getting wasted at parties or whatever because everybody else does it and thus, so must you!

So I just randomly do what I feel like doing. One day it's biking whole day, other day it's playing Final Fantasy for 14 hours, and next it's dating random girls for half of day. And I'm happy about it. There would be no real difference if I kept dancing 14 hours in a club instead of playing. I wouldn't get wiser, I wouldn't get healthier, I wouldn't get richer, it's the same mindless time wasting on things that feel good.

The only difference would be that I could say to myself "omg my real life is sooooo cool, I rock", but I don't need those ridiculous ego boosters.

And playing FF feels great. So I will do it and I don't give a **** what others think of me. And since I hate parties and dancing, I just pick what feels better.

Of course it's fun. But it's not as gratifying as meeting people in real life. After I spend 14 hours a day on the computer for a couple of weeks and return to the real world, I find that I have trouble socializing with people. I feel a little dead inside. My contagious smile is nothing but an awkward smirk.

No, I just finally decided to give up my addiction for meeting people. This could have been an awful summer, since all my friends went back home for the summer or graduated. Instead I got out of my apartment and made a ton of new friends.

I do regret it. But it has nothing to do with following the social norm. If that's what you are implying you can suck on it.

I can understand your arguement, however I still think that social interactions or hobbies of some sort are more productive than sitting home alone, unless you really need some time to yourself. Lately my alone time is spent on the guitar, writing stories, or reading books. Eventually I would like to start a band and write some songs, or have my writing published. And yeah these things are for my ego. But it's all about my own self-expectations. It's not for anyone else.

That's cause they get it and you don't. Playing for 14 hours is fun, but it's such a waste of time. You only get so much time on this planet. Not that I'm trying to snow on you and tell you that you are wrong. Some people just like to spend their time alone. But in my experience. The things I enjoy most in life are enjoyed a hell of a lot more when spent with friends and family.

Let's give some examples.

Drinking - I never drink alone anymore even though I love beer. I'd much rather try a completely new beer with a friend than by myself.

Sex - Masterbation not as good as Sex.

Should I continue?

Hey everyone needs time to themselves. But 14 hours in one day is a bit excessive for me.

Hey Sox.

I don't feel anything like it. I just talk to people like normal. I don't give a **** about random people, though. I have 4 great friends, people I have went through many things in life, and with them, I will always have things to discuss and it will never feel awkward or boring, no matter how much do I play video games. To me, the urge to "meet people" and set up 5000 meaningless "friendships" with people who barely know your name is just a way to boost ego. And if you need to boost your ego, you are insecure. ANd that's that.

Quote:

I understand. I am the kind of person who doesn't need new "friends" at all. Those people mean NOTHING to me... Again, I've went through so much with my real friends. Experiences that made us aware of the bonds of friendship that formed between us. Do I need some random suckers in between? No, I don't give a damn about them. I can chat with people, I can spend time with people, but I really don't give a damn about what they think about me or whether they find me cool or not.

Quote:

Why do you regret it? How is chatting with a freshly met person about some random pointless stuff better? What does it give you? Wisdom? Health? Cash? Nope.

What else? Happiness, or whatever? Yeah. But so do video games. For me at least. If someone comes and tells me "meeting people" gives more happiness because HE thinks it does, I will laugh at him.

If someone however says, like you do, it works for HIM... I will agree. Until he starts to attach some weird kind of philosophy to it. Everyone just needs to do what he thinks is best... but once he starts convincing others that HIS way of achieving happiness are more worthy then someone else's methods... I will laugh at him.

Quote:

I find nothing productive in idle chitchat. It's as pointless as playing games. It's just for joy. I'd really want to hear what's "productive" in meeting people or randomly chatting with them. Seriously.

Quote:

Here goes the waste of time part. What is a waste of time? Something that has no benefits? Than what are the benefits of chatting, dancing, playing football? If you want NOT to waste time, go study at university, become a great doctor and find a cure for aids.

Because "meeting people" is simply an ABSURD argument you try to bring here by telling me "they got it right". I'll tell you something, you're wasting your time, life and your brain cells, do something PRODUCTIVE instead, idk, save lives or become an inventor.

Do you see my point? I guess Death would agree with me now What you are trying is a weak attempt to prove that one waste of brain cells is better than the other waste of brain cells.

So you go spend time with people. Ultimately, you do nothing productive. You don't make world better, you don't make people happy, heck, you don't even make your life better. You just happily spend time. Like I do, playing video games.

Some things are meant to taste better when you're alone. Try taking a poo with your friend. Completely new sensation, right??

... not.

Don't do it then. Just don't go on a crusade, telling nerds that their life is miserable. Sorry that I sound so blunt and unfriendly, not my intent at all, I just hate when someone tries to convince others that their ways are better than the ways of others because, even though the INTENT (having fun) and the RESULT (also having fun) is the same and only the PROCESS differs. That's why I argued with people in the abortion thread and in the copyrights thread. Hey, it's just me. Take care with your new life and enjoy it. Don't forget though that my life isn't a tad worse then yours. Well, at least not because I play Final Fantasy X while you spend time chatting with your friends. Ultimately, going by "productive" point of view, both of those activities are a total waste of time and brain cells.

Cheers.

RSF is right at some point.

He is right that internet ruin life for some people, they can't even get whats happening, I'm talking for people like the hard core wow players, I know stories for men that lose wifes, or kids that get fat, or ill form arthritis, or some guys that can't finish school and etc...

But not everyone who sit in front of the computer (even for 14 h) are addicted like that.

In the modern world you can't distance from the PC. You work on it, you study with it, you check the news with it, you read some guides to know how to fix it (the pc), you listen to music with it... etc. As Geny said, for many it is the perfect fun tool I'll add  - it's even cheap (if you don't start paying for games), since it combine all in one (Take an iPhone 3 GP if you wish). It simply makes your life easier.

For some people the PC and the RL are one thing.

Using your free time for friends, alcohol and etc. - mentioned, can also be bad for you and addictive as well.

About the asociality, it's true that some can get this thanks to the internet, but not always, some people are just asocial. It's individual.

RFS is saying that it's better to meet friends and have fun with them. But doesn't it depend on the kind of fun you like? Some like to drink... some like to go to the gym, some like to listen loud music and etc... some like not to do any of them. Some just LIKE to be alone... maybe not at the computer, but at house reading book, or sleeping all day, or just doing nothing... or they are tired after work... or they watch sport on the TV all day... in their free time.

Everyone has it's own way for resting... for some it's the internet, thats why no one can say whats best for the others, let them do what they want to.

But if someone really realize that internet is standing against his life, he has to spot it. If somehow internet is harming you - stop it. If not... well I don't see a problem if somene is using it, instead of having fun outside.
