School raises the "like" stat for the village.
Each point of enjoying your presence increases the amount of recruits, and the chance of being able to recruit UPGRADED units.
Around 10 allows for more swift recruitment, around 20-30 and you will start hauling in large amounts of upgraded units.
Top tier untis can also spawn.

I found I hated the slow map movement so now I'm all horse archer army. 
But it seems there's not any reasonable legal way to make money. I can eitheer loot villages or win tournaments. But quests give ridiculously little money.
But for getting exp they seem pretty good. Exception being that big battles with other kingdoms seem to give like three levels for you.

Ok thanks, Del. The village has like 65 like to me now and I can recruit from 15-25 recruits each time, and possibly a few more if I enter the village afterwards and talk to the elder about it.

Quests give XP.
There are minor improvements in Warband: You get a lot more tax, and you can build establishments in cities which generates money.
But still, try to trade. Get marnid, or get your tradeskill to 2-3, then check what is profitable, and keep on buying what is suppose to sell, and sell it until you have figured roughly out what is sold at what price, and what is profitable where, and you can start making insane amounts of money.
I tried out trader in Warband, i generated too much money, i was more or less starved for XP in contrast to my gigantic treasure hording

Think it's about time I try out Warband.
Gonna be fun trying it on my new computer, see how much I can pressure the engine with Battle Sizer... 
Getting a better connection too so I can play me some online duels, yay!

Heh, I got the upto huge numbers, like 800 and it still ran mostly fine. I was wondering what the heck was up when our side wasn't winning even with 3:2 ratio and then I realised the battle size was 200 or something, notched it up to 1000 and voila! The battle looked like it should.
BTW. GET MAMELUKS. That's all you'll ever need. Some 50 mameluks and you'll steamroll everything on your way. I got those and then I just steamrolled over the green footsoldier empire.

They must've stabilized the engine quite a bit... that would've been almost impossible for me in vanilla....
Bet you're straining it to the limit when doing that though... probably doesn't leave much room for mods.
Sounds like major fun though 
Greatest number I ever used was like 250.

I got stable with 1700 but my comp couldn't really handle it.
1800 broke the stable line for me. I suggest you patch it up and try how far you can go.
Having 600 cavalry charge in formation is MOTHAsnowEN GLORIOUS!

Aww ****... never experienced the death of a fellow forumite before...
Fawzia, one of the main developers of the Prophesy of Pendor mod, has died in cancer.
Feels weird... Had a few pleasant conversations with her...
Looking at her profile I see that she answered questions about the mod as late as January 30th... at that time she had a week left to live.
If that ain't dedication, I don't know what is. She will truly be in my thoughts as I walks the land she helped create.
I mean... just wow.

Playing a bit of Warband online...
Man I kinda thought I was good at this game. Apparently I suck ass hahaha.
People seem generally friendly though, and I'm having fun 
EDIT: Aha... now I'm getting it... I'm too used to 120 Range weapons from various mods... I start striking too early.
Maybe I'm a two-hander type of guy in multiplayer then? Hmm...

I ran up to a guy who just kept jumping backwards in a circle. Fricking 2 minute duel... JUST.. STAND... STILL!
I've realized that I'm best in the horseback lancer role. I poke people that aren't watching... heh.

Also, I'm best at horse archery, annoying as hell.
Try hitting someone with a HUGE shield at their back with a horse going 200000km/h and which outruns all lancers...and shoots you in the face while doing it.
The trick is not to run far away, it's to ride so close you can't miss that ugly face of his but he can't reach you.

Hmm... but unless you're a Khergit you have to kill someone to get their horse so you can do your horse archery right? Or have a nice guy on your team who gives you one
Been playing more and more as shield/sword infantry with javelin backup lately. I don't get as many kills but I do feel that I support my team in other ways; killing the pro-player's horse with a well-aimed javelin and seeing my teammates slay him while he's trying to recover feels pretty awesome.
Damn two-handers spinning like crazy though! Can't beat 'em...
And they always have a shield and short sword handy in case I decide to fling a javelin in their faces... so fricking annoying.

Pretty much yeah.
Two handers are bloody effective in mass. Just stay behind the shield guys and kill people from where they think no one can reach. Don't aim at the first guy in front of you, aim at the second. Nasty.
Javelins are kings, archery is even better but it makes you very vulnerable. Unless you're defending a castle or otherwise out of harms way(ie, on a fast horse or really far away) it's not really worth it.

An archer teamed up with an infantry guy with an awlpike is a pretty damn solid enemy though.
Charging cavalry will get shot down or shish-kebabed by the awlpike.
Infantry will have their shields worn down by arrows (shields are actually ridiculously fragile in Warband, but I guess it's kinda balanced gameplay-wise) and then be fairly weak against the infantry guy.
I disagree about it not being worth it. As long you have a good vantage point and/or a good teammate archers are totally awesome. Hell, if they can manual block well enough they often don't even need a guard (as long as the archer's not facing multiple adversaries that is; 2 against 1 is always a disadvantage)
The guys at the top of the kill-lists are very often archers from my experience.

But an archer targeted by another archer or javelin equals instant death.
Top kill list guys are archers simply because they stay far enough to not get killed. If you stay on the edge of effective range to the battle, you can shoot into the fray with relative safety and not much danger from other archers. Another one is simply going melee with archer. It's not that bad if you have good awareness of where you are positioned. Catch the ones who are facing away from you with a headshot and kills start coming in. You're a little faster than the melee guys with thick armour so you can turn, run, shoot, repeat if someone targets you. Or just simply run.
Still, having javelins with shield is better. Accuracy is a lot worse and they run out fast but the shield can be a lifesaver. Not to mention you don't have to switch to melee weapon. Javelins don't do much damage but it's just enough to take out the guy who you already hit with a thrown one.
Oh yes, warband low level shields=crap

That's actually something that I tend to forget... we can use throwing weapons in melee in Warband. That was impossible in vanilla.
I tend to switch to my melee weapon when close, but maybe I could sneak in an extra melee hit with my throwing axes at least...
Nothing like hitting a charging cavalry guy in the head with a javelin just as he raises his spear, and then stealing his horse as it passes by

Highlight of the day: Letting my little brother try Warband for the firs time.
He's like "Screw training, I wanna beat up people, give me a fricking horse"
So I go to a deathmatch and let him have his fun. For a guy who never played M&B before he did pretty well, even scored a few kills.
He does get quite slaughtered though, and a few guys team up on the deathmatch and bully him. After getting mobbed by them like 7 times and not being the best loser out there, bro shouts:
"FFS! These b***** must PAY! It's a fricking Deathmatch damnit WHY the teamplay?! OWN THEM FOR ME! OWN THEM!"
I take over and realize that these guys are teaming up because they suck even harder than me I manage to kill 6 of them in a row and you know that they do?
They kick me out of the server haha. Must've hurt their pride like **** when a newbie they've been owning for like 10 minutes suddenly rapes them completely
