mytical
I tend to agree with you that the faction is a bit too strong now. I'll make an appendix at the end suggesting players how to defeat them, with new spells to be created etc. I might reduce the damage stat from high tiers too and limit web and spitting abilities do adjacent tiles.

And you actually gave me an idea to make the ballista even more deadly . But don't worry I'll make it very costy in terms of skills so that the hero is going to be weak in other things. Also I'll make the tent more interesting.

So many venom related skills... if you have played Perfect World online, you can call the heroes "Venomancer"

Still, if the demonic spiders are the driving force behind the hive mind, why not make most of the heroes if not all be demonic spiders themselves? Even in a hive mind there can be some "individuals" which are outstanding in some way.

Also, the reliance on venom, burrowing and numbers doesn't really do justice to the insect world, which has the most diverse arsenal of tactics, unrivaled even by us "intelligent" apes.

IMO an insect faction should be a "jack of all trades" faction which can do and counter everything to some degree, but, for the sake of balance, doesn't really excel in any aspect. Their main strengths would be numbers, and excellent options to counter dark magic and non-fire destructive magic.

I have been thinking of an Insectoid faction myself (called the Hive in my ideas) multiple times. I used it in my H6 ideas and tried to put it into the ICTC (but it was never completed).

In my opinion, an Insectoid faction would be a perfect expansion race. From a marketing point of view, it might attract some Zerg players ;P

In H6, I dont want the Demons to be the main enemies.
Insectoids would be a perfect new threat. Perhaps they could have some relation with the mysterious Faceless.

As for the line-up. I think the names are horrible ;P
I think the names are very boring and this is Ashan and not Earth ;P You should use cool names and maybe create your own variatons of various insects. Scorpions could be called Scorpids or Razorclaws for instance.
Also I dont agree with Spiders here. I dont even think Spiders are counted as real insects IRL and I would rather see them replace Zombies in H6.

Here is a suggested reworked line-up:

1-) A Swarm creature seems like a great idea. But not a Worm Swarm ;P
2-) Why not? But I think Antoid is a better name. Its an Insectoid faction.
3-) Hmm. The Mantis have been high tier before so maybe it would make more sense for them to be a high tier creature? Like tier 5 or 6.
4-) Centipedes are cool but I dont like the name. Why not use something different like Terrormaws or something?
5-) Fine. Scorpions are cool but it would make more sense if the names were something like this: Scorpion-Emperor Scorpion/Deathstalker
6-) Giant Beetles are fine but the names here are boring. Why not use the mythological Scarabs?
7-) Giant Worm

@rottenvenetic
Problem with the demons spiders is that they are HUGE. So heroes from them would be like making titans or dragon heroes . As for the insect variety, I coudn't agree more; they are most varied and that is what makes them interesting for me. However we only get 7 slots for creatures, we can't do justice to ALL the insect abilities. And burrowing and venom are representative AND fun, even if not perfect. I already explained why I don't like flier insects (I think they are weak). But if someone make a good suggestion I can add them. I chose to focus on burrowing though since it would be more interesting and more powerfull than flying in the game.

Thanks for reading and giving your opinion .

It is good to see someone that likes the insect faction idea too and that we need different enemies

Yeah when I started imagining them I thought ppl were going to immediatly compare with the zergs. But the zergs are also based on nature so we all develop our ideas from somewhere.

As to the names I already changed them because someone complained there was too much use of the same prefix (giant). The beetles have the names I gave them because it is easier to identify which one has each ability. However I could change the names to something like "nightmare beetle" or "chimeric beetle", more exotic. I'll work more on the names later.

Well all the other heroes are huge: check out the demon lords, and the runemages and wizards who are riding elephants

Huge they may be, but your demon spiders are probably not bigger than elephants, and if their feet spread out somewhat around the roughly 2x2 box in which the hero stays that's not a big deal.

I wanted the demon spiders to be really big. If in H6 we could have 3x3 or 4x4 tile creatures the Demon Spider would surely be.

Also a Gian Worm from the Dune series would be cool too. I think I'll add them later as a alternative dwelling.

Having a huge creature like you suggest seems a little off to me - to be honest, it sounds a little like you don't know what you want.

The idea is interesting, but right now there's no unifying race; all the units are simply different kinds of insect.  If the heroes are grasshoppers, why not make a few of the creatures grasshopper-based creatures?  I see no reason why each order of arthropod has to be represented.

Also, a thought on swarms:  I had a similar idea a while back, but I made the swarm a tier 4 creature, made up of a bunch of 1- or 2-hp creatures.  The advantage of the creature was that you had a base weekly growth of 100+ (doubled with Castle to 200+).  What that does is convey effectively the sense of vast numbers, while keeping the creature individually weak enough that it doesn't completely break the balance of the game.

Even as a tier 1 creature, you could do something similar; but I would seriously consider unifying the faction under a single race's leadership, with just a few non-racial creatures to spice things up.

Aosaw is making some good points, as far as Heroes 5 is concerned anyway

But 3*3 and 4*4 creatures would be very cumbersome in battle, they could easily be blocked with your own units, or a throwaway by the enemy, or summoning school spells.

Also, you'd need tactics just to deploy a 3*3 creature, and a 4*4 could not even enter combat
