Before everyone continues to dictate the lineup and wildly shoot off ideas at one another, maybe it'd be wise to get past one hurdle: how does one import skeletons?

Now, if anyone happens to be feeling lucky and Russian, Nival have a forum up... perhaps with enough prayers and fortune, the developers (who, however, may have been sacked since TotE's release) might show up and help.

No way to import skeletons = no way to create truly new creatures, and after three years of playing around with effects I think it's time for some real modding to get into gear.

TSoD, a suggestion: Might and Magic VIII featured the Dagger Wound Islands, a Lizardman-populated village full of Aztec-style buildings. I can try to get you some high-quality 3D renders of the village's structures, if you like... they'd probably help since they suit the style you're trying to create.

Tier 3 - ???
Tier 4 - Lizards (warrior)
Tier 5 - Medusas-gorgons (shooter - can be upgraded to shooter or warrior)
Tier 6 - Basilisks (warrior)
Tier 7 - ???

Well, I think the point here is to decide if we go with one or two flyers because, under my point of view, all factions have a flyer among level 5-7. This is needed for having more chances in a siege, so the actual lineup provided by TSoD only leaves room for a level 7 flyer, and that sounds like "another dragon kind creature", so I'm not so sure about this lineup. Also, if we go two flyers, assuming a dragon type for level7, the only room left is tier 3, maybe a dragonfly based on a modified and flyer Water Elemental? If flying is possible to be applied on it, the trouble would be is making a rapid-movement wings, so I wonder if a static mesh with some texturing efect could work...

Returning to the lineup point, I like so much the Jaguar warrior idea, it could give some variety to the faction regarding the racial point (I think we should run away from the Ubival's closed raciality conception). So, I guess maybe the Lizard (Warrior or shooter) should be implement in one same level playing with the alternate upgrades. Thus we'd free some room for a jaguar warrior. And, if you're going to give Medusas some Vorpal ability, maybe they should be leveled up to tier 6.

Observation: A Jaguar would make the rest of the reptilian base look odd in comparison. For the missing tier, perhaps something less scaly could make the gnoll and jaguar a bit less felonine. Something else very important to the Mesoamerican people were their aspect of death, some sort of ritualistic unit. However, be sure to incorporate the jaguar idea, it is very interesting.

Why not integrating jaguar warrior as level 3. Then, its upgrades could both be flying upgrades ! I explain : we mount the jaguar warrior on a [reduced phoenix model]. Its mount should be the Co(u)atl, like in Warcraft III :

We can integrate the co(u)atl in Heroes V in using the Phoenix model. I can replace the head of the phoenix by the warcraft III coatl one, and easily add some spikes on the tail of the phoenix. So we have a nice co(u)atl model that can be used as flying mount of the jaguar

And for tier 7 creature, the Wild Coatl himself. But wild, cause unmounted. Large creature. Base creature resembling to the tier 3 mount, but bigger and "wilder"... With scars, dirty and two enormous canines that protrudes from the upper jaw. In fact, not very resembling to the tier 3 mount, only the model is less or more the same.

And now everyone is happy ! We have 2 flying creatures, no dragons, no wasp, a jaguar warrior, a Quetzacoatl-like creature.

Do you agreed ?
@Cepheus : Your help is welcome ! Could you please post some of these renders ? I would like to see them And maybe we can integrate this already built models into the town Have you these models in an exploitable format ? (3ds, wrl, obj, ma/mb,...)

For the skeletons import, I had an idea for a while. I think that if we create a model in Maya and create it a skeleton (with maya we can do that) and animations like Nival did, I think that when we push the Export button in the psatkha's tutorial, it will also export the skeletons and animations. Someone can make a test model with skeleton and animations and try to apply psatkha's tutorial ? Without setting to null the value of skeleton before exporting of course.
Or, as Psatkha seems to be the only one to speaks russian, could he please try to ask informations on the nival forums ? :S

And SimonaK, I thank you very much for your work

EDIT : here is the fort in town exterior ! More than a test view ; more likely a BETA model It may seem too simple for you, but it is because it is a low poly model. Textures will add relief and all details

NB : This screen was save with BLENDER so it is normal if it is not the same material. Default material will be added with Maya during conversions.

I don't like it, sorry (a jaguar flying-rider of a divine level 7 sounds me so weird) I guess the last thing HoMM needs is to bear directly another brand's oriented elements. I still think the better is to bet for a single lizard level in order to avoid saturating the town with serpents. So, we could add an insectoid creature like the dragonfly and add more variety. I'll try with a lineup:

Tier 1 - Gnolls (warrior)
Tier 2 - Lizards (shooter low ammo like the dwarves) - Lizard Hunter / Warrior Lizard
Tier 3 - Dragonfly - Upgrades to be defined
Tier 4 - Jaguar Warrior - Upgrades to be defined.
Tier 5 - Medusas - Upgrades to be defined.
Tier 6 - Basilisks - Upgrades to be defined.
Tier 7 - Quetzalcoatl - Upgrades to be defined.

Another point here is to decide if follow Ubival's pattern about having always three 2x2 stacks in all factions. If so, I fear we'll have to forget the dragonflies idea and search another creature which fits well in the 2x2 size (maybe a bull-like creature like the Heroes 3 Gorgons for level 4).

And, BTW, the works through the Phoenix model looks amazing, it seems another different creature, although, as I said, it could be a little more original

We simply can't add dragonfly, wasp or such creatures. Impossible to mod them with actual knowledge ! I love dragonflies of Heroes III but I don't want to make an ugly creature only to say : Hey you noticed ? We add dragonfly in heroes V !...
And I maintain the two lizard units. We don't need the WHOLE city is peopled by lizards, but 2 creatures on 7 is the minimum requested.
Also, why not a flying mounted jaguar warrior ? Plus, we would have a cavalry in the Ziggurat. And it would perfectly fit in this faction.
For tier 7, that his name is Quetzacoatl or Coatl, it doesn't matter. All we need is to not consider it like a god... Magma dragons of the dwarves aren't gods, Green dragons neither, and so on. Only a creature...
EDIT : and the coatl-phoenix remodelized will never look like to the original phoenix, I promise

Ok, just thought a modified flyer water elemental-like creature could have worked Apart from the two level lizard issue, a Jaguar warrior seems to me a ground like unit, not a rider, what about a Lizard (or even a human) shaman-like rider and a Jaguar grunt?

In fact, I insist about the flyfing mount of the jaguar warrior for 2 things : One, everyone is happy cause we add a jaguar warrior. Two, everyone is happy cause we add a flying unit (balance for sieges). It's only that... But we'll see when we make stats

Here is the Citadel town exterior. I added a first tower on the top dome. I see this tower like a "cage" made of roots protecting the main archer. The side towers of the Castle will be in stones.

The dev's have been out since patch 3.1, the only one apearing does it on Heroic Corner's forum (and recently he said that they're not working on Heroes any longer).
And even if they were there, I guess they wouldn't tell anything... well, that's cuz they treat all the fans like zeros. Or even worse.

For the Quetzalcoatl idea - TSoD, why not to use the current head of one of the dragons, or take it somewhere else rather than Warcraft? I have nothing against the game, but i think that Warcraft 3 models have too little polygons for importing into H5.

And the town buildings are good, keep it up on the level.

I think this project it moving in a good direction.

Would it be possible to create a Wyrm creature? I think it would be a cool thing to have a Wyrm on level 6 or 7 because of the Wyrm reference in the game. Also would be akin to Hydra which belonged to this town in Heroes 3. Just a though.

Maybe you should ask the wc3 modders at hive workshop? There might be a modeller over there that can help, or maybe look tools they use, make creatures with those and then port it to heroes?

I already know all possible tools 3D manipulations on Warcraft III : Heroes V modding and Warcraft III map/campaign creating with new models are my two bigger activities on the PC

EDIT : There it is at leats ! The Mage Guild (town exterior again ; the one in the town interior will be far more detailed. In Town inerior, each level of magic guild = 1 cylindric stage, plus some details, like fires, pulsing glow maybe,...)

The skull on the top of the tower will appear only at level 5 in the town. And there will be a fire effect in the two eyes holes, in the town exterior model AND in the town interior magic guild level 5 model

Sorry, they only exist as animated renders in .avi format, unless I can manage to contact the old NWC artists - who, sadly, probably no longer have them anyway.  The renders could only be useful as reference or inspiration, but there's a lot of them - about 16 or more.

I'll post them as soon as I get MM8 installed, which may take some time in my current situation unfortunately.
