What is the most interesting alcoholic drink you have ever encountered?
when I went to Thailand, I went to a restaurant with my family in the area around the river Kwai. There, I saw a man who had ordered a large glass of local wine. nothing interesting about that, really, until you got to the glass, because it had a cockroach in it. When asked about it, the waiter said that the cockroach was soaked in a mixture of passion-fruit juice and absinthe in order to provide it with maximum flavour. The trick was to drink the glass, get to the cockroach, and then crush it in your teeth.
has anyone had or seen someone have a strange drink before?

When I started reading the thread I thought that the "weirdest" thing I ever drank was absinthe, but as I got to the end I understood that I haven't even heard of anything that can top this.

The most interesting booze I encountered was a wierd variation of vodka. It had honey and some herbs in it. Other interesting drink I had was from Kazachstan. Spicy and hot as hell. To bad I forgot the name of it.
True georgian vine is good as well. Recently I started to drink chech(Chodovar Černe) stout. Great taste, and cheaper than Guiness. A true balance of quality and cost bi...!

Well, some of my relatives still brew that stuff, on their own. Everytime we visit them (usually once a year) we get one bottle Per Person. And we cannot refuse, lets they are greatly offended (how else to they dump that stuff, lol?)

Bulgaria, right? It's the same in the neighboring countries, although the EU regulations might affect it... Still, I cannot see how the law can be enforced.
Actually I got a bottle myself when I visited my in-laws this summer. They even have a custom to try to get the son-in-law drunk... Good thing I don't drive, those mountain roads are curvy enough anyway.

@Vlaad: no, mead is actually brewed differently than vodka, and isn't as strong as "burning water". It takes 4-6 years to mature depending on the recipe.

Tequilla worm. I've drank tequilla with a worm in it before, but I haven't eaten the worm. Tradition says that the person who finishes the bottle drinks the worm. For some reason I was never very thirsty when the bottle got near the bottom. Actually it's Mezcal that has the worm, not tequilla, but they are almost the same thing.

Apparently worms and grubs are used to make stuff more spicy (in Sicily there is some kind of "Grub Cheese", which, apparently, tastes very spicy ( ))

I had once a drink...really its not a drink...its only wine...i was in argentina and that wine was $1($4 = US$1, so 25 cent to US), it was called "Rey de Copas" and it tasted like sucking a battery. I had 2lts of that sheet until i collapsed. It was mystical.
