Creating your own video game.
In the altar of wishes, I talk with some people of creations of games by on-professionnal personnes, but I think it was not really the good place to talk about it.
When a new game arrives, even if it's a good game, there are often some details which disappoint me, and that-s why I dream sometimes that I can create my own game.
But maybe with the developpment of internet, some people will be able to create a game with some others they met on the net. The idea is probably not realisable for the moment, but maybe later, and maybe in a short time, it will be possible.

I love making games!!! Thats one of the greatest things about Heroes, it has a map editor! There is a program that does allow you to create your own PC games. I've used it to created several videogame-like 2D side scrollers, but it's not limited to that. You can use it to make any kind of 2D game or screen saver imaginable. It's great! There are many programs that you can make games with. My favourite is Game Maker 4.0. The best thing is that it's free. You have to pay for Klik and Play, The Games Factory and Multimedia Fusion. There's also RPG Maker whichis also free.

Making a game is difficult.
Writing the game's engine isn't really too difficult. You just need to have some basic programming skills and then learn how your operating system displays graphics and sound and accepts keyboard and mouse input. From there, you work your ass off for a few months, and you'll have something.
The hard part is actually designing the maps, creatures, weapons, etc, and making it all fun and well-balanced.
Hiring artists and musicians to do art and music is also important.
I intend to write a few games sometime, but most people here will never be able to ever play them.

I created a game two years ago.
We were three, and created a 2d game working as Blash-back. But it was quite unplayable. There was just one map, and some bugs. For example you couldn't kill you ennemies.
I'm not good in graphics or stuff like that. I think my strong points are preparing the project, I mean thinking of the most details and ways of programmation, and programming some parts, but not the graphics.
But this year I have a lot toomuch work.
Wesley, did you begin a game with Aeria, or did you hust think about it?

Geralt, I don't know where can you download RPG Maker. But I have it on a CD. I have some other programs (game making) on that CD as well.

Dajek-Born as demon, Dajek is one of the only evils that was born evil, while most demons just waited for humoids and other creatures to enter their realm, dajek never liked the waiting, his bloodlusting spirit raged inside him and he enjoyed killing so much that he got high on every murder he commited, Dajek found a way to escape his realm and ended up on the planet earth, were he killed many weak and innecent souls. After slaying about million innocent people and about 2 million other wildlife Dajek became bored by slaying them, and wanted some action and playtime with his victims, the mere mortals were to weak and pathatic to get joy from, so Dajek wanted to capture or create 29 strong souls that could play in a tournament and give him some joy.

Everybody knew ""Sebastian Saw"" as a Peacefull man, he was the only mortal in everich(his hometown) that knew some spells and could defend their town against evil, this all went peacefully and good untill Dajek showed up, and challenged Sebastian to a One on One battle, the people waved Sebastian goodbye when he left the town to fight the demon, but when the enchanter came back to town after several hours, the people weren't that happy anymore, the Enchanter was kinda braindeath or brainwashed and attacked the city under the name Celfious, he said that they all should join the evilside because it was so beautifull to be a warlock, but when he spoke out his last Sentence, all people were death..
Killed by one of his ultimate spells of destruction, spells that were onces spells of healing and protection..
This was only the first victim of Dajek, demon of destruction.

Lurkos-
Victor Grimnor was a lonely Shaman that lived far from humanity, concentrating on his powers to controll the earth beneath his feet.
Sometimes he liked to freak the hell out of people from a town by creating small earthquakes, but when the people found out that Victor was behind this earthquakes they captured him and stoned him to death.
Stupid as they were they left his body on the place of execution, and when the morning came Victor's body seemed to be dissapeared.
All people were freaked about this, and the men started a search for Victors body, but when they came back to town, they found everthing in ruine, all their children and wives were brutally murdered and their houses were destroyed by what seemed to be a giant earthquake.
The only thing that was "Still Standing" was a giant statue of Victor Grimnor, made from earth and clay. When all men cried out their pain for their lost children and wives, something started to create letters in the earth, when it was finished the people could read L U R K O S out of the hard earth.
Hexa-
The beatifull Celena Kimp was a young girl that loved to play with fire.
Her mother always told her not to play with fire because the people may think she was a witch, but stupid as Celena was she played and played, and when aging, the twenty year old Celena started to practice fire Magic, when she was really close to perfect fire magic, something went wrong and her house burned out, wich killed her mother and younger sister, when people came they saw Celena who cried, but they didn't saw any tears, it was a fact that witches didn't cried tears, but Celena didn't cried tears because her hands were still hot from the fire, so the tears melted away from the moment they were created.
The poor Celena was now being called a Witch and she had to be punished because of killing her family.
Her punishement was cruel, she first was bound to a large pile, and then the ravens picked out her right eye, then her stephdad got a torch and putted Celena on fire, Celena's body and soul were brutally burned to ashes. Anyway, when the people wanted to turn their back to go back to their homes, a giant firebird was formed from Celena's ashes, the bird shooted with fast speed into the sky, but when the people were all happy because it was gone, giant fireballs seem to fall from the sky, and they destroyed half of the town, the survivors looked up into the red sky, and with red firey clauds there was writhen H E X A.
Lace-
Wilbert Smith was Erotho's(town) best fisherman, every year they held a competition who could catch the biggest fish, and Smith won the last 4 competitions straight away, but when he wanted to catch his fifth trophy, something went wrong, that evening Wilbert was planning to catch a fish that was as big as a shark, but when he came on the water nothing wanted to bite, Wilbert was angry and tried to go to forbidden zone were none of the fisherman ever came, it was full of sharks and other dangerous creatures and Wilbert enshured himself that he would catch the biggest shark there.
After a short period his dream came true..... only it turned out as a nightmare! His small fishersboat was torn into peaces by the sharks, Wilbert with it...
After many hours of waiting, the people on the shores started to worry about Wilbert and they started a search, but after two hours also they didn't come back, but when mist started to form over the black shores, the people on shore saw a small boat comming their way, and started to scream some of the missing names, but their calls were not answered in any language, they were answered in terror, giant hands made of water ripped people of the shores into the water, were they all became sharkdinner.
Was Wilbert turned into a Lacedon? Nobody can answer that question, because all witnesses were killed.
The only sign the people found that other day, was a strange word formed out of seaweed on the beach, it said L A C E.

It's pretty difficult to make whole passing background stories for your own characters 
But what do you want to do? Something familar to what we did before? O some kind of tournament or a hunting something?
Or maybe I will play all the badguys and your some goodguys? And if people join they have to create their own creatures/characters?

If you want some help little green goblin, I can help. I'm really good at programming... on my TI 89. I already made some games like a tetris, a snake or some dumb games.
But programming on PC for a tosser like me is too complicated even if I could like it.

...oh, when I first started reading, I thought you guys were referring to creating an online multiplayer game...well, at the very least, you'll be needing a support site or something...
...booked solid with stuff I have to do right now, but if things turn out alright, I should have a little bit of free time to join this project during the summer, if you'll have me.
...so far my programming skills are very limited, mainly to intermediate amateur html, and basic editing techniques for VB, C++ and PHP...so if anyone else is willing to do that part, I can tag along try and help out...dunno what you guys would want to code in, but the important thing is that we decide on one to use first...
...besides that though, as mentioned, I can help run the support site, or whatever else you want that comes with a website,to the extent of my knowledge, at least...
...also, I can create some simple to slightly more advanced scenery renders, and some special image and text effects...
...of course, with most anyone I have some kind of imagination, so I can also help design the maps, sotry and whatever as well...
...that is, if you guys are serious

Hmm... sounds interesting, but too much work for THIS lazy guy! I rather prefer to modify the original game to my liking, i.e. especially games like Unreal Tournament, Quake III, Myth: The Fallen Lords etc. Its amazing what some people can make, and what you can make too!
Good luck with the RPG thingie.. I couldn't understand it.

...does Game Maker or any other of these problems for that matter come automaticlaly with some copyright thing, because you it to create stuff? ...and also, what language is the program written in? ...are the functions only basic, or does it just simplify anything you could possibly want to do?

Yes, I still want to do this story. Hmmm, for the form it will take, I'm not sure. The idea that you make all the badguys and I make one or several "goodguys" sounds good. But, first I would like that there are not really the WHITE and the BLACK, the GOODies and the BADIES, but just the evils and the others, I'm not sure the characters I'll play will be particularly good.
And secondly, I hope it will be possible to make an interesting story without playing too easy, and alwyas do what the other don't want, and break his ideas... It should be possible if we are serious.
I will write an history for my character(s). Tell me when you wnat to start.
