LGBT Community

Well, nobody has yet brought this back to the community, so I thought it was possibly time.  Especially after seeing an article.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1214314/Boy-12-turns-girl-summer-holidays.html

What is worse about this is, she probably got off easy, a lot worse could have happened. How can people behave like this to another human being?  It makes me sad and angry at the same time.  This girl just wanted to live her life on her own terms.

People call those in the community freaks (and worse), and although it is a lot less now some even survived beatings (or didn't...).  I try to see the good in people, and every day people continue to let me down.  You know what is worse?  Not one teacher or other parent stood up and said "This is wrong!".  Good people sat by and did nothing.  Maybe out of fear, or complacency, or "Hey, not my problem."

Anyhow...here it is.  This thread is dedicated to everybody, not just those in the LGBT community.  We all are in this crazy world together, and should support each other even those a bit 'different' from ourselves.  Been bullied, picked on, laughed at, or hated because you did something a bit different then other people?  All are welcome here.  Regardless of beliefs, regardless of anything.

I have very mixed feelings about that case.

12yo is too early. Couldn't they just wait? 12 yo kids don't know their bodies that well. I think that should be adult decision, not some kid's whim.

Besides, why not waiting at least for a new school to start, like, high school? Did they actually expect KIDS in that age NOT to pick on their child? do they live under a rock or smth? Everyone knows how cruel kids are in that age. They should at least transfer the kid to another school.

Really, lack of imagination from that parents.

I'm with Doom. A child just entering puberty is too young for such an operation. Of course the children shouldn't make fun of him but the fact is at that age children make fun of everyone who is different from them. If the child had shown up with a mohawk he would have been made fun of too. Being made fun of is all part of the experience of growing up. We have ALL gone through it.

This is actually a good example what I intensely dislike about this age of information: there are news and reports about just everything imaginable, and it's.... well, I'm looking for the right word here: provoking? demanding? tempting?... me (I talk about me, but I'm sure it's this way for most people) to form an opinion about things, even though I have only general information about it, am actually in no way involved or participating, and will come to a spontaneous opinion, based on very scant content. I don't want to build opinions about things that may be very important for a few other persons, in such a casual, superficial way.

In fact, I don't actually want to form an opinion about most things that just pass me by - registering things, events, okay, but do I really have to evaluate them, if I'm not involved?

Since I'm no psychologist or doc and since I'm neither wearing the clothes of the boy/girl or their parents all I can say is, how the hell would I know what is "right" here? Someone has to do the operation, and I suppose such a thing won't be done lightly, so I expect the boy/girl to be very serious about it. The docs are the experts here, I'm not, the boy/girl/parents are those faced with it, so if they agree about it, fine.

I don't know whether I even care, but I'm rather sure it's one of those things I do not want to care about because I don't see any reason why I should.

Believe me, being 'different' I know all about how mean kids can be.  Even with my older brothers, there was only so much they could do.  So I understand the childrens reaction.  I will behave and not get into the rest of it. ((We need an angel smiley to go with the devil one lol))

It is so hard to find people in the LGBT community.  Even though people are becoming more accepting, there is a still a lot of fear.  Its nice to have like minded people around to discuss things, though it can be just as fun discussing with people who think totally opposit of what you do also.  The few I knew here have left for greener pastures, as the job scene is dismal at best.  Wish there was a nightclub or something besides bars to go to here.  No, have to travel hours away .

Ok enough chaoticness for now.

Dear Santa,

I've been a good boy the whole year. I helped mom wash the dishes and I washed dad's car every month. I had second best grades in my class and participated in every school project. I helped old women cross the street and baked cookies with grandma.

I hope that for Christmas, I'll get a new sex-change surgery.

Thank you Santa. I hope Rudolf is ok.

Love, Lynda

-Mom, I finished my letter to Santa.

-Nono, Lynda, it's no longer Santa, she's Samantha now, remember?

If you want me to be honest, I've never been a fan of transsexuals. This means, were I in those children's clothes, I would have probably "sat down and do nothing".

(Heck even myself I have been a bully in my elementary school kids have different mentalities)

Lol you cant decide life long descions like that when you are 12 -.-
Heshe should wait untill 16 atleast. You become an adult when you are 18 years old, atleast in Sweden. But I think its 18-21 in other countries too.

I don't understand this reaction - I can't see how it's either sick or wicked.

But I agree with others that 12 year olds is too early for such a thing. I think an age limit of 18 would be both appropriate and fitting.

But not quite sure I understood the article right - did he have surgery, or did he just show up in girl's clothes with ponytails and a new name?

I don't understand why this is in the media in the first place, it's not anything the people really needs to know is it? It's not anything we can do about, except be entertained by through various emotions when taking a standing point, and in that case we're only exploiting the family, and thereby so is the media.

About the whole "being to young", etc. part. I think most of you know my opinion in this sort of matter by now, but anyway here goes:
I think maturity and age have nothing to do with eachother, it's all about information. The key is, you must do what you truely want to do, and not merely what you feel like, because if you only do what you feel like, you're a slave to outer stimuli (like e.g. dropping your girlfriend after 2 months because the love feelings dissapeared).

If you want to only be a slave of outer stimuli, merely doing what other tells you which gives you some form for reward, then by all mean go for all the narcotics you can, but it's giving up your life for a mere sensation.

No, if this girl (former boy) can convince her parents that it's something that she truely wants, and not just something she feels like (because in principle then it can go like this: "Uh today I feel like a sex-change"->Next day: "Uh today I want to be a boy again"->So forth, it's a question about maturity and maturity is not a question about age, but a question about you knowing what you want, and you also doing what you want.

OFFS: when I was 6, I wanted to be a ninja turtle. When I was 9, I wanted to be a terminator. When I was 12, I wanted to be Saiyan. Now, should my parents listen to my whims? Should they listen if you exchanged "Saiyan" for "Girl" ? No, they were smart enough to teach me I'm just myself. And the fact that I don't have a shell, lazor-eyes or vagina doesn't make me a different person than I really am/want to be (No offense Mytical of course! This doesn't apply to severe gender confusion. Only to whims of a kid, that really can't be 100% aware of his yet-to-be-fully-developed sexuality)

In other words, the parents did a horrible job.
