JJ: It's actually a horrendous idea to not judge. You should love the sinner, but hate the sin.

Tell that Jesus: Matthew 7.

You are misinterpreting that, just like many liberal Christians. The meaning is not "do not judge" (then Jesus would have been quite a hypocrite himself, who called people "wolves in sheep's clothing" and "brood of wipers") but to "judge as you would like to be judged", or "treat others as you would like others to treat yourself". "For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again." (Matthew 7:2, Douay-Rheims Bible)

Yup, exactly. The world would be a better place if people would care more for their own sins instead of looking for the splinter in the eye of the next.
But I am no Christian anyway, and "sin" is a concept I really have no tolerance for.

What you say here shows the absurdity of moral relativism, which is the point of the liberal interpretation of that verse. We always have to judge, not doing so would be immoral, or rather amoral.

You do nothing but state opinions as facts, with nary a logical argument to be found.  Reminds me of another poster I know.

Yeah, please try to state facts in a discussion about religion or philosophy! The traditional Christian (catholic, orthodox, anglican, lutheran, calvist, baptist and virtually any church who has a written set of believes) interpretation of that phrase is not that one is forbidden to judge something as a sin as a follower of Christ. Actually, it's more or less the opposite, to do that would be immoral.

Which perfectly explains the problem virtually every Christian Church has been for the people under their collective thumb and why moral has been so ... lacking within the confines of Christianity's sphere of influence.

Don't believe LionoftheNorth. There is no "set" interpretation. And even if Catholic church's priests decided 1000 years ago that it should mean this or that and stick to this till this day, why should I actually care about their interpretation and consider it better than mine?

What, they are smarter than me or morally superior or closer to God or something?

The meaning to me is pretty simple. DO NOT JUDGE PEOPLE. Don't play God. Period.

I agree with DF here, and that's one of the many reasons Christianity is bad. "Judge, and prepare to be judged."

However.
Religion has a special connection to this thread because it's been the main "enemy" for LGBTs over the centuries. And still is because the basic situation hasn't changed - except that religion isn't a dominating societal force in our Western society anymore.

Well, we certainly wouldn't want to disturb all the other people trying to talk about other LGBT community topics.

Pray tell, what exactly are acceptable LGBT-related topics to discuss in the LGBT thread?

In other news.  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41556653/ns/world_news-europe.  This would be an interesting step in the right direction.  Yes there is some undertones for religions.
