@JJ have you even read why the guy doesn't permit homosexuals to eat within his restaurant (fast food res)?

It's just ridiculous and if that guy is actually banning homosexual people from eating at his restaurants (?), then he had that activism coming for him from the start. In a secular country, religion should never be allowed as a way around discrimination.

How can you, avoiding prejudicess, even know if a person is gay?
I've had that debate here when it comes to immigration. He's a bit of a HBT acttivist and he wants to open up more gay immigration, ie gay people who are being abused in their countries. And i'm like, how do you control that kind of immigration? How do you know if people really are gay or if they're just saying it because they want to get into our country?

JJ, please link to your source. I've found nothing that says the owner of Chick Fil A does not welcome gays in his restaurant.

His actual interview comments about marriage I'll link to below.

Quote:

The company invests in Christian growth and ministry through its WinShape Foundation (WinShape.com). The name comes from the idea of shaping people to be winners.

It began as a college scholarship and expanded to a foster care program, an international ministry, and a conference and retreat center modeled after the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove.

"That morphed into a marriage program in conjunction with national marriage ministries," Cathy added.

Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position.

"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.

"We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized.

"We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

JJ, from everything I read on the matter it looks like you been misinformed. The restaurant DOES NOT refuse to serve gays from what I have read.

Quote:

As debate swirls over comments made by Chick-fil-A's president, the Biblical Recorder's editor described many media reports of his conversation with the company's president as "distorted."

During a call-in radio interview Thursday (July 19) with WORD-FM in Pittsburgh, K. Allan Blume described his conversation with Chick-fil-A's Dan Cathy as "very positive," unlike how it is being portrayed in a variety of news reports.

......

Blume asked Cathy about opposition to the company's support of the traditional family, and Cathy responded, "Well, guilty as charged."

In the interview Cathy went on to say, "We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

Blume expressed his surprise at how standing up for traditional family values in today's politically correct society has become code for hate speech.

"I don't understand why that's a bad thing all of a sudden," he told the radio hosts. "It was not an anti-gay statement. It was a pro-family statement."

....

Blume, who has not been in touch with Cathy or the company since the story was first published, referred to Chick-fil-A as a "class organization."

"They're very positive," he said. "This is basically an All-American organization that's worked hard and been very successful, and yet, they're painted to be very anti-American or something worse than that.

"They don't shut anybody out from their restaurant they welcome everyone."

Seriously - WHO CARES?

So an exec of a fast food chain expressed his view that he doesn't like same-sex marriages because god supposedly commanded otherwise or whatever.

Who cares?

If he said, he'd support Romney - is that a reason to start campaigning against that fast food chain?

Still not scratching the point whether private business people can bar certain groups from doing business with them, and I don't see any reasonable law that would say you must serve everyone (or deal with everyone). In fact, on a wider scale - country-wide - countries are boycotted, and I see no reason, if I have a private business, why I shouldn't be allowed to boycott certain people I don't like.

Sure, if I have a sign in my shop window that says "WE SERVE NO [insert name]" said window would probably be smashed the first night it was there. Also, how are you supposed to make sure for things that are not immediately obvious?

So practically, this is just a lot of noise. Everyone has a right on their opinion, and if people think same sex marriage is not what God wants, that's fine. In practise, however, this is a POLITICAL statement (because it is an opinion about how the law should look like).
I mean, since that's one of the issues as well, if the Exec had said he'd be against abortion, it would be the same nonsense, if pro-choice and women's rights and whatnot would call for a boycott.

For example, I don't like married people who cheat on their partners, simply because they CHEAT, and I don't like cheaters. If they are married, they promised each other something, and cheating isn't part of that. Which would technically mean, I strongly frown upon adultry.
However, I'm not a religious person, and I don't think people have to be married to be together, but if they ARE (and no one forced them), and if they DID make each other promises, they should keep to them, because that's what honest people do - keep their promises.

Obama backs gay marriage in Supreme Court

The Obama administration is asking the Supreme Court to overturn California's ban on gay marriage and take a sceptical view of similar bans elsewhere, wading into a case that could have broad implications for the right of same-sex couples to wed.
The administration said unequivocally in a friend-of-the-court brief filed late on Thursday that gay marriage should be allowed to resume in California, where citizens voted to bar it in a 2008 referendum known as Proposition 8.The brief marks President Barack Obama's most expansive view of the legal rights of gays and lesbians to marry.

Well looks like he can keep his word, even if it is after 5 years. Wonder what took him so long, but great news.

He didn't want to alienate part of electorate and his thoughts were evolving.  Just goes to show how passionate he is about the topic.

If the ban gets over-turned (which I assume it will), it will be because of rights being vested and a strict scrutiny standard being applied.  It will not be, however, due to the President's underwhelming response to the issue.

LA isn't that dangerous. Sure, there are parts of it that are (like Compton), but that's true for most cities. LA is bad because it's expensive and it's hard to get from one place to another, whether by car or by public transportation.

Yes, yes, it's a long time coming, it's the right decision and all. Yet I still can't help but feel somewhat disgruntled at how political the Supreme Court has become in the last several years. It's almost like a mini-Congress any more: every vote is split pretty much along party lines.

I completely agree, Corribus.  It is irritating to watch the same people vote the same way on everything.  It seems like the only people above such behavior are Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Kennedy and even then, they barely do it.
