Opinions on these Factions

The Harmony thread and Mytical's posts about the ICTC has made me mull about it some prematurely. There are several factions that I've been juggling around in my head for several months from previous factions, and I'm wondering what other people's opinions are for which faction they would be most curious to see developed in full, since I'm probably going to make just one of them.

A:

Town: Safari
Primary race: Plainsmen human
Alignment: Good
Color Theme: Green, Orange, and Brown
Hero: Bard

The Safari faction is a conglomeration of wild, free, and passionate people that roam the plains. Their customs and practices are passed on orally, and they are masters with song and orations. Their music and dance is their unique strength, inspiring greatness and even harnessing magical powers through it.

1: Brave (human)
2: Halfling Kangaroo Rider
3: Centaur
4: Hippogriff
5: Lammasu
6: Windtalker (human)
7: Tarrasque

B:

Town: Thermopolis
Primary race: Snakefolk
Alignment: Evil
Color Theme: Red and Gold
Hero: Beguiler

Thermopolis is a vast and wealthy empire ruled by the crafty and deceptive snakefolk. They are masters of espionage, intrigue, and politics, which they use as their unique specialized strength against their foes. Their native towns are built in hot regions, often with enormous hot springs and baths to go with their decadent lifestyle.

1: Kobold
2: Monstrous Scorpion
3: Sniper (snakefolk)
4: Medusa
5: Manticore
6: Weaponmaster (snakefolk)
7: Efreet

C:
I'm also thinking of expanding on the Valkyrie faction from the 3rd page of this thread.

I dont like them but perhaps its how you named them. Where do creatures come from? What are the faction features? Im not asking detailed info just what you thought when posting.

Very, Very interesting. I like how u think.  Cool ideas , cept if im not mistaken kobolds are taken from everquest i believe.  But still nice concepts.

EDIT:  I stand corrected. I thought everquest made them up,but apparently they exist in German folklore

What's this? An invasion of "first aid tent" users? =)

Now about the factions, I think it would be cooler if you could make a Norse Faction based on that first one you started drawing, they would be pretty cool with all the warriors and mythology.

Well I'll try to review them and suggest possible changes, if that's alright. If not, you can lynch me if you find me

Faction 1:

This kind of wild faction is a great idea, but Safari is a term for a journey into the wild by civilized people, or at least that's how it is used now. If it's roots are in the romance of large grassland plains, you might draw its name from words like Prairie or Savanna.

Anyway I'd certainly love to play such a faction, as the Sylvan faction which represents Nature in H5 is conceptually disappointing (elves don't work that well with me to begin with).

With this lineup you have a level 6 human, probably mage, but the brave, other human unit, is level 1. I'd say move it up to level 3 and make it a bread-and-butter unit. The indigenous American braves were often formidable warriors, demoting the level 2s and 3s by one point each. Centaurs are already level 2 with the Orcs.

As for the kangas, you would be better served getting rid of the riders: kangaroos are much more agile, and can hit with much more force, if they are not encumbered by a rider. Considering a magical universe, they could be given the ability to jump over obstacles, making them an interesting alternate flyer.

Also, the greedy, violent and mindless Tarrasque doesn't really fit in with this faction. Perhaps a powerful elemental unit could work, like the efreet mentioned in your second faction, but especially if it's an Air elemental type, which would be consistent with your faction, it would have to be a flyer as well, and you seem to have no shortage of them. Another solution: jump the Lammasu to 7 and make the level 5 unit some kind of powerful lion OR buffalo/bulls, but no more than that, and stick with other-type Lamassu. I would prefer level 5 Lions and bovine Lamassu since Dungeons and Dragons already have leonine Lamassu.

Faction 2:
Thermopolis is not a very diplomatic name, it evokes the destructive and threatening element of fire, BUT this can be very effective as a Mafia-style faction, masters of extortion and blackmail. Certainly, most big-time organized crime bosses do love their decadent lifestyle.

Again, certainly a faction I would love to play or at least try; as I am not that big on evil factions to begin with, something like this, a faction whose alignment is determined by very transparent, but also pragmatical and understandable (if certainly not likable) egotism.

Units look good, except for that level 2 monstrous scorpion. You already have the manticore which uses the main business end of the scorpion, its stinging tail, so that unit is redundant. Maybe push to 3 racial units and introduce a snakefolk grunt, and making Kobolds a sort of trickster unit like Goblins' upgrades and Gremlins.

Edit: the "polis" part of the name could also be used to build up a comical claim to intellectual pride, which is instead often enforced and protected by the use of force.

Halfling kangaroo rider? That is quite ridiculous. Kangaroos originate from Australia so i don't see how a halfling could have and a tame one. 9/10 for creativity. Halflings should just stick to their trusty slingshot.

With Thermopolis the monstrous scorpion is like the manticore so I suggest you change it. The structure of the efreeti isn't 7th lvl like. Titans and dragons would look much more daunting. 6th lvl would be more ideal although that would stage a delema on what would 7th lvl would be. I think people in the medieval times wouldn't of used the word sniper. I assume it is a ranged troop. It sounds like a of balance of ranged and speed although you only get fliers when you start recruiting manticores. Change monstrous scorpion to a flier. It also sounds and looks like an aggressive faction.

the safari faction could be interesting, as it has a lot of potential to be one of the truly good factions in a fantasy game. maybe a few more african themes units, like the spirits Orisha and Eshu. also, halfling kangaroo rider, lol!

the snakemen faction... not so good. i'm sorry to say, it does seem to be a miss-match faction, like H3 fortress, and that doesn't really work.

I disagree with and do not endorse the above statment.  The Safari faction so far for me is my favorite, but it will be kicked to the curb for any decent Valkarie (spelling) faction.

I really need to dust off my ICTC Hex faction, and finish some of my other projects..but lack of motivation .
