In case someone doesn't know yet - the PC enhanced edition is expected to be released on 17th April and will be free to download if you already own the game. So f*** off all of you greedy anti-piracy morons that impose truckloads of restrictions on your products and buy government puppets to enforce SOPA-like s**** on the public - just sit down and take notes how it's supposed to be done!

The same company wasted months going to court with individuals who downloaded the game from torrent (in countries where it was possible to win such stuff in court that is). So it's not so hot. Nice way of making money though. 800 euro of a fine for pirating the game LOL.

Any news on the Enhanced edition? what will it contain?

Man, compared to most of the other companies which treat virtually everyone as a potential pirate - buyer or not - these people are the industry's equivalent of saints.

As for the content - mostly expanded Act III, which is more than welcome.

Enhanced Edition Cinematic Intro
Kingslayer rocking the boat.

Enhanced Edition New Elements
Very nice trailer, gets ya pumped.

Will be nice to experience this game again... so much other awesome has been keeping me busy... it's almost like The Witcher 2 drowned in Skyrim... too bad... it really was the awesomest game of the year.

Yeah, i just got this game, and i hate it! The graphics is good, and the possibilities is good, but the gameplay is actually boring...
Maybe because i don't get the story because i never played Witcher 1, and its just not nearly as good as skyrim..

Plus, you cannot choose wich, where and when.. You follow one path all along.

The Witcher is a story-based RPG while TES (inluding Skyrim) is a sandbox RPG, it's not that easy to compare them because their fundamental concepts are different. It depends on what you like. I for one would pick a good story, interesting characters and strong dialogue in a tunneled environment over an open world with copy-pasted NPCs, next to no dialogue and generic story any day. I.e. Skyrim - even if I think that it's the best TES by far - bores me pretty quickly while The Witcher 2 (and 1) can be frustrating at times mechanics-wise but it's half a universe ahead in terms of story-telling.
By the way you'll be indeed better off playing the first Witcher before continuing with the second if you want to understand what's going on. You'll still wonder what's this and that occasionally (the games have eight books worth of "pre-history" after all) but you'll feel much more comfortable in the end.

As Adrius and Zenofex said, if you were expecting a sandbox, which The Witcher series isn't, you'll be grossly disappointed.

Unfortunately, you can't make a sandbox interesting plot-wise (at least I think so), so it's either linearity, or horrible plot.

However, I do agree witcher2 has taken the "game" aspect a bit too lame (there's little optional combat and it's extremely repetitive due to both mechanics and tiny amount of monster types). I feel witcher1 was superior here: in every act there was a varied group of monsters you could kill just for joy/exp, and act 5 was a nice opportunity to have fun with gold group style, lol

I'm happy they are expanding the game though, especially the incredibly weak act III.

Actually the first two Fallout games are pretty good sandbox/story-based hybrids and manage to combine free roaming in a big world + random encounters with excellent story and characters. Of course it takes a wee bit more effort to create a Skyrim-like environment than to make a dozen major locations and represent the movement between them as a mobile spot on a map that looks like a satellite photo but you never feel "trapped" in certain area (except in very few cases, non of which is intrusive) and it ultimately feels like free roaming.

Anyway, back to witcher II - what I hated about the game was how horrible the combat was. It was an endless loop of rolling&doing 1-2 hits, then going back to rolling. All the beautiful and complex attacks of Witcher 1 were replaced by generic-looking swordswings, and there was 0 strategy. Simply put.

No matter how hard they tried, it seemed unfixable.

In one of the later patches, by trying to make parry more attractive, they actually nerfed the **** out of it, making it utterly useless.

And now, I heard they nerfed quen to 1-2 hits. There was a lot of Quen complaints, and I agree that it made the game easy - but with such RIDICULOUS rolling-on-the-mud-based combat, everything is abusive. It's just that most casuals discovered Quen and not i.e. igni+mutagens (which makes igni oneshot almost everything with AoE) - probably because other things require some kind of planning&thinking that is outside of casual gamer's typical ability - it's not that Quen stands out in any way in general.

The only way to save this game's combat mechanism would be to dump it entirely and make a new one, and sadly - that's not going to happen.

I wouldn't mind if they replaced the rolling mechanic with a dodge mechanic, which has to be timed with the enemy attack to avoid damage.

Me too. What I would like most is the thing they wanted to do in "Rise of the white wolf" that got cancelled: Witcher 1-style attacks, but with more control. Eventually they could aim at making the combat more like in Gothic series. Their idea at making their own "unrestricted" combat mechanic was a failure.

Actually the first Witcher's combat mechanics can be summarized in... point-and-click. Most of the tactics revolve around which potion to drink (potions make you a monster, even on the highest difficulty) and which Sign to use (i.e. upgrade). Switching between the combat styles is a no-brainer - group style when surrounded by 3+ enemies, fast or strong vs. less than that. Focusing on the sword proficiency turns you into a walking grinder vs. everything which is not a Kikimore Queen or Azar Javed. The combat looks beautiful and authentic (well, until Geralt starts swinging 5-6 times per second but he's a bloody mutant after all) but it's hardly complex.
The Witcher 2's combat, in comparison, is more flexible but arguably more frustrating. And Geralt looks more like a chopper than a sword master. I wouldn't call it worse than The Witcher 1's combat though, just different and maybe unpolished.

w1's combat was bad in a different way, but the style was the redeeming factor. There were also SOME statistics behind it, at least it tried to look like RPG with hit chance and critical hit.

And what do we have in W2? Nothing. Roll-hit-roll-hit.

Ooh, well I must admit I thought it was kind of like skyrim. A sandbox game with many opportunities and so on. :S

Can you recommend a Sandbox game then?
(Not Elder Scrolls games and Rockstar games's Sandbox's)

Try Fallout: New Vegas.

As for Witcher 2 EE: actually, the changes are too small to notice. The extra quest could be a free DLC. The new animations are nice, but act 1-2 are completely unchanged, and you won't really notice any balance improvement short of Quen nerf. Parrying is still useless, mutagens still require power gaming to get (great idea to reduce their drop chance, lol), and there's still little "game" in this game. Shame, because combat is enjoyable (even if gimmicky), and the game has nice atmosphere.

I'm making a powergaming sword build (already made a sign one before EE). My damage per swordswing will probably reach 600+ when I'm done. Yes, it's possible. Fun to see Letho dying to two swings.

edit: so far my record is 872 damage

Iorweth path is definitively better than Roche's. More interesting plot, better side quests, less annoying. After beating Iorweth's path I consider Roche's path to be horrible.

By the way, Kinslayer's outfit is slightly less sucky when you're powergaming. This is because vampirism will heal your witcher to full HP after every hit - 800 damage is no joke. That makes it possible to go full rambo on any opponent
