I hated the intro cinematic, because it would NEVER END.

It's just soooo long and I wanted to actually play the game.

I totally missed this, but CDPRED announced out of nowhere that they're going to release modding tools for The Witcher 2.

CDPRED are so awesome, the TW2 hype is all over but they're still supporting the game so much.

I ****ing love this company.

Yes, in The Witcher's world nobody's safe from unpleasant events of all kinds.

I finished the Enhanced edition a few days ago myself + played Iorveth's path for the first time. I really can't say if I like Iorveth or Roche more, both are very good characters, refreshingly trustworthy among the crowd of liars, betrayers and backstabbers that surrounds Geralt most of the time. Iorveth's path feels more... cosy though. Henselt's camp is like a wolves' den where you are tolerated solely because you are useful while you have just a handful of reliable allies on your side. In Vergen it's quite the opposite - some old friends, not so much inter-racial hatred, even militarized it feels somewhat peaceful + there are more purely witcher jobs available. More laugh with the dwarves too (although the episode with Ooooodrin on Roche's path was pretty hilarious as well). Act III with Iorveth gives you the opportunity to see what a nice man Radovid is which is also welcome.
Act III is still pretty short though. Don't know how many quests are available on Iorveth's path but the only relatively time-consuming one outside the main plot line that I stumbled upon was about the "scientific expedition" to the lab of Idontrememberhisname, with the two sorry alchemists and the Nilfgaardian sorcerers. The outro also destroyed my theory that Nilfgaard may not really be attacking the Northern Kingdoms.

Finished Witcher 1 (a juicy cutscene at the end, silly guards falling asleep ^^) Now onto Witcher 2.

Edit:
Quote:
Some of you have surely heard the rumors about the relationship that bloomed between the young medic Shani and Geralt. I hasten to inform you that they are all true. I consider Shani a friend both true and old. We go back to the days when I lectured in minstrelsy at Oxenfurt University, and I was the one to introduce her to the witcher. Upon Geralt's return to the living, they were reunited in Vizima, where the red-haired medic competed with Triss Merigold for Geralt's heart. She emerged victorious from the rivalry. The flame of their romance blazed bright, but it burned out quickly. Though a very young woman, Shani proved more mature than the witcher, who had always found relationships puzzling and difficult. Geralt would dodge his obligations towards her, preferring instead to pursue the missions King Foltest assigned him. The medic quickly realized this flour would yield no bread. She had a serious conversation with the witcher, and they parted amicably. Shani accepted an offer to teach at Oxenfurt and left for that city, whereas Geralt followed Foltest to the lands of the La Valettes. After splitting with Shani, the witcher needed comforting and quickly found solace in Triss Merigold's arms.

Dammit Geralt, why you no commit? Then again I do enjoy the fact that Geralt is bathing in fruitless relationships and false love.

In fact he has many "intermediate" relationships and one constant - with Yennefer. It's almost certain that she'll reappear in The Witcher III and - if CDP follow the current trend - will compete with Tris for Geralt (by default Tris has no chance but I'm pretty sure that she'll be given some for the gameplay's sake).

Did any of you actually read the books? They're really great, I must say. I haven't read all of them yet, but probably will until next February. Some publisher in my country just decided that they should work with a Polish institute, and translate the books in a very short time. Six months for seven books, they're really outdoing themselves.
Anyway, if you can get your hands on a book about the Witcher, don't hesitate, they're nice.
The game itself is an upgrade from the first, especially the gameplay. The nature scenes in the game are some of the best I have seen. Apart from a very tough story and sex, the game offers great combat. I liked it.

And that's not all that's new, we are about to reveal our other project, which is much closer to being completed and yes, it will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story. You can probably guess the game we're talking about - on the 5th of February it will all be clear.

Hoho.

Fully open world though... hard to make good stories with sandbox style.

It all depends on how it is done. Fallout (1 & 2 of course) and Arcanum are to a large extent sandbox games but still have excellent plots.

They are built around town screens however. sandbox means a tiny, boring land with pathetic 4-building "cities" all over the place.

The only sandbox that was did right was GTA, and that wasn't even RPG.

Redkit Beta trailer.

Bwhuhahahahaha, I might be forced to create a wager between Geralt and Dandelion about who could ride the most snows in one night. This is not only based on personalities but also historical evidence, Empress Messalina had a similar wager with a prozzy, (well she was arguably a prozzy herself) she scored 26 if I remember correctly.

Full Combat Rebalance for TW2 has been released, a mod developed by a CDPRED employee, author of the mod of the same name for the original game.

Notable features:

- Geralt now 80% more responsive to your commands
- Auto parry when not attacking, even when moving (with new animations)
- Enemies and Geralt do not "bounce off" when they are parried, allows for continous attacking.
- Guard is now "Active Quen", useful against people attacking you simultaneously.
- During challenging fights, Geralt adopts a more serious stance and replaces his rolls with pirouttes (new animation)

Looks pretty cool, overall it seems like a mix of the best from TW1 and TW2. I like how it seems to deal with the whole "roll all over the place" that was the basis for combat in TW2, now you can auto-parry by being patient and attack only when enemies are not attacking you, and use Active Quen with the guard button if you're surrounded.

Seeing as it's a CDPRED employee who did this (serious kudos), I wonder if this is perhaps a sort of beta test of how Witcher 3 combat might work. I certainly wouldn't mind if a system was built from the start to incorporate auto parry and stuff, I really like the idea of this.

Man, this "rolling all over the place" in The Witcher 2 is some urban legend, I swear! I beat the game twice after the re-balancing and mostly used parries. Rolling around is nice of course and more than helpful against big and tough monsters but c'mon, the game does not force you to use it in order to survive. Only where it makes sense. Of course if one attempts to make a snowball (or rather mudball) out of Geralt, nobody can stop him but that's hardly the centre of the combat system.

On Harder and above I found it more than neccessary at the start at least, if you get hit from behind by something of Nekker Warrior strength and above even once you're pretty much dead.

After you've specced into parrying and Quen it becomes much easier, but then you've already been conditioned into learning that rolling can help you avoid all that, so why even focus on it? Instead, you spec into damaging abilities and roll away instead, letting you spend your Vigor on killing stuff instead of defence.

For experienced players yes, it's not neccessary. However for players on their first playthrough or hardcore players, they'll quickly find what's most useful and stick to it.

The way I play I rarely need it for most encounters. Everything is pretty much dead or being incinerated by Dragon's Dream + Dancing Star, and then I move in and wipe everything out with Enhanced Quen and Aard + alchemy enhanced swordsmanship.
