Didn't the 1st Witcher have a quadcore in its requirements also? I have a dual core and I ran the first game with zero trouble and it doesn't look like the 2nd will be a problem either.

The main thing you have to be concerned about with a dual core is if you're running a bunch of applications at once, which I don't typically do, and if I do it's often several minor programs that aren't very demanding. TheDeath ranted in the past about how evil dualcores were, but he's the type that probably left his computer on for countless days and kept 20 applications open.

Hmm... as far as I remember the recommended for Witcher 1 was a Pentium 4 which is like, the equivalent of a stone wheel compared to a quad.

Nah I usually don't run much in the background, I think it'll run pretty well for me. I might upgrade my GPU later anyway though... a HD5850 sounds kinda tempting...

Yeah Death was pretty special

EDIT:

German article

Press the buttons above the screenshots to change the graphics settings.

Looks awesome on all settings imo. The only noticeable leap in graphics is from low to medium.

EDIT2: DAMN GERMANS! Some screenshots... NSFW...

I have bought the first game at Steam's Christmas Madness thing nearly free. But since then I've being playing lots of games and still couldn't find the time for it. Will download it once I finish the game I'm playing now.  Once I tried it for like some minutes and didn't like the fighting style but that was really for the sake of trying, I will give it some time.

Edit: And by the way, this screens look amazing! I hope my system can get it in highest graphics.

Second edit: This screens... I can't get my eyes off! Are they actual gameplay screenshots or from game's story videos? (There is a word for that videos but I can't remember right now )

The fighting system sucks at the start, but once you've gained a few abilities it becomes quite exciting.

My favourite tactics all involve the defensive Quen sign.

1. Cast Quen, charge up group style power attack while enemies are hitting your shield, release for awesomeness.

2. Cast Quen, throw Dragon's Dream (using items does not disable your shield, and bombs are considered items ) and let the gas spread while enemies are hitting the shield, cast Igni and set fire to the gas, awesomeness ensured.

The cutscenes seem rendered in the game engine as well though, so they look equally awesome.

I just started playing Half Life Source as I played Half Life 2 and Episodes years before and it's still the best game experience I have lived. So it was giving me pain not to have played its Source. But now I wish I havent started playing it Hope it will end soon and I can begin Witcher.

You can import your savegame from the Witcher 1 into the 2nd one and some of your decisions will carry through, as well as your equipment (re-balanced of course), so playing the first game before the new one is a good choice.

Some of the changes I really like in the Witcher 2:

1. No drinking potions in battle
Potions can only be consumed during meditation, thus you can't bring over 9000 healing potions to a battle and be alright; You got to prepare, drink the right potion for the up-coming battle.

2. Group style removed
Whether you'll hit multiple opponents or not depends on where they're standing, not on what style you use. Yes, the group style is indeed a canon style, but should getting surrounded by opponents really be a tactical choice? Now you'll have to consider your position much more, because getting surrounded is no longer a good idea, like it should be.

3. Block button and timed ripostes.
Moar action RPG, me like. In the Witcher 1 the foundation for this was already laid with the timed combos, and now even more of your personal skill is required. Less clickety clickety and more timing and patience, awesome. ALSO THROWING DAGGERS that you need to aim yourself! BADASSERY TO PERFECTION!

Which means an awful lot of Power Word: Reload. Otherwise, how are you going to know that the upcoming boss spits acid and you need an anti-acid potion, for instance?

Group style was imho fun. Looked great, and was never meant to use against strong enemies, only hordes of weaklings. Just because CDPR screwed up with the "critical strike" and it was like death sentence to any and all opponents doesn't mean it was bad. Special effect attached to it was overpowered, that's all
I'm going to miss all that crazy moves he did in group style.

This is more to my liking. I'd rather see the witcher as semi-arcade, not auto clicker. More Gothic, less Diablo, so to speak.

Well you buy a book and study the creature of course

And uh yeah, I guess a lot of people are gonna reload but... I kinda like the role playing part of the role playing game.

Kinda agreed about the group style, but I still find the new system better. Less changing style all the time, just Strong Style on left click and Fast Style on right click.

But how are you going to know when the creature you read about is going to pop up?

Unless the devs intend to spoil every next battle to people (heeyyy there's that big poison-spitting douchebag over there, better drink some antivenom), you will have to powerword: reload to make any use of specialistic potions at all.

which is sort of pointless. Reloading to get a better start against a boss kinda spoils the atmosphere, too, at least for me.

Seeing as CDProject have been very careful with making sure that all the creatures feel like they belong in their enviroments, you should be able to prepare sufficiently just by observing your surroundings.

Going into a crypt? Best drink some Cat and smear your blade with Necrophage oil.

The swamps? Bindweed or Golden Oriole might be a good idea.

Even so, most mission for a Witcher comes from villagers and the like that recruits you. If they have problems with the monster they'll likely be able to share some info that'll help you figure out what kinda threat you're facing.

Of course, spoiling every battle is not a very good idea (especially in the case of bosses that kinda need that WOW feel when they appear), but when you don't know what you're facing there's always potions that are good for every situation; like Swallow, Full Moon or Maribor Forest.

Unsurprisingly, there was a leak, and the Russian version of the game is already @ teh interwebs. Quite lol that the pirates always manage to beat the official release by at least a week.

Damn I don't have my save-game left, I deleted it after I finished the game...

This sucks. I can't finish the first game in 2 days... I wonder how much save-game importing will actually affect the game...

you can download a character editor and set up Geralt in whatever way you like for exporting.

or I can send you my saves, they are actually made exactly before a key plot decision I prepared for different imports myself, as you see ^^

enhanced edition editor - yes it allows to tinker with quest flags.

Aaargh... I think it's better to edit a save game that is at least somewhat progressed in the story... mine is just at the beginning... editing it so that all quests are completed probably won't work out well...

You wouldn't happen to have something roughly similar to this would you? I can edit the details myself.

Prologue

Protected the Laboratory

Chapter 1

Escorted Vesna (sexy time yes)
Helped Zoltan against the rascists
Allowed the non-humans to take Brogg's wares (my mission was drowners, could care less about those elves and dwarves...)
Fought Leo ghost/illusion/whatever
Saved Abigail

Chapter II

Fought the cockatrice alone (screw you Siegfried and your drowner attracting torchlight! Witchers work alone...)
Remained Neutral in Order/Scoia'tel business

Chapter III

Gave Alvin to Triss, but refused to go any further in our relationship
Cured Vincent
Helped Yaevinn in the bank (why couldn't I just say **** off and walk out of the bank...? Ah well)
Let Thaler live

Chapter IV

Helped the Lady of the Lake and received Aerondight
Didn't kill Berengar
Remained Neutral in the village-hostage-thingy, fled the scene

Chapter V

Saved Adda

Epilogue

Kicked the Wild Hunt's ass, that dude's soul is mine.

Well my playthrough was mostly pro-order, so I helped the Order as much as I could. I think I did the rest of the quests in similar way to you. I can upload all I have, might be of any use to you - mind you I used the Polish version, idk if there's any compatibility issue. Oh, I romanced Triss all the way. Even though CDP's Triss is nowhere near Sapkowski's Triss in terms of character, she's still quite charming

Two of my saves are pre-bank raid and pre-village slaughter, so you can always remain neutral if you wish.

You know it never crossed my mind even once to help out the order, I just disliked them from the very beginning... turned out my gut-feeling was correct

Triss was eh... too pushy... and I got the feeling that the reason she wasn't helping me with my memory through magic, wasn't just because it could be risky... Geralt doesn't remember Yennefer, he has a faint feeling that he once loved a sorceress, but he can't remember who. Triss probably feels it might as well have been her.

Thanks, I'll check those out. I doubt there's any compatibility issue since I can pretty much turn my version into a polish one through the options anyway... but who knows. Thank you very much.
