I heard at school from one of my Teachers, that he won it for Diplomacy.

I like the guy, but I don't think he should've got it.

Oh! And my dad made a joke, and he told me what it is: The same day that the Americans bomb the moon, the President of the United States of America gets the Nobel Peace Prize Award.

My thoughts about it were best represented on the David Letterman Show. Letterman walks out on the stage and got a resounding applause.  It lasted longer than usual. Then he shook his head with a smile and said: "No. No. Stop. I deserve that as much as Obama deserved winning the Nobel Prize."

I don't see a problem when an encouraging leader of a big nation, who tries bringing the splitted world together again wins such a prize, when a terrorist named Arafat could win it aswell in 1994!

Many others named Miss Betancourt...I don't see why...she was kidnapped...hidden for many years...and got freed. What had she done for the WORLD peace?

In his short time of presidential term, he already changed the mood and the attitude of many countries / leaders refering to USA itself, and towards the western culture. He nearly fixed the big rift his predecessor has built. America has learned the way of diplomacy and friendship again, while Mr. Bush only knew 1 way...force/power/violence.

And no..I am not talking about Afghanistan. I am pretty sure every president, including Obama, would have reacted the same way Mr. Bush did.

It's the way he talked and acted towards many other nations. Threat, warnings etc... In Bush's mind, all muslims are evil. Even if he didn't say so in public, it was kind of written on his forehead.

Just my 2 cents...

I agree with those comments Angelito, but it is much too early in his presidency for him to earn a peace prize.  *Winces knowing Elodin will be here soon with his 'obama is the devil' stuff now*.  Yes, he has changed a lot of nations opinion about US to the possitive, which is a good thing.  If that will remain the case has yet to be seen.

Your comment about me is out of line.

I've never said Obama is the devil. Unfortunately some peoeple get offended when Obama is criticized. I've said Obama is a socialist and in his own words he said he wants to redistribute wealth, that he sought out Marxist professors, and he has surrounded himself with communists and socialists in his adminiatration.

Obama has done nothing to deserve any sort of award.

Please don't put words in my mouth in the future. Thank you.

I can't believe so many people are taken in by a pretty smile and fancy speeches. When I see the way people react to him, gullible is the word that comes to mind.

If the americans think he has done nothing yet, I can only come to one conclusion: (sorry if someone feels insulted, no offense meant)

You all do not care a penny about foreign countries. All you see (and care about) is USA!.

If you really don't see what has happened out of the STATES in the year 2009, how the people and the other leaders reacted on his speeches he held in all these countries, you really seem to fulfill the prejudice of americans being ignorant and egoistic.

Again...no offense meant, but this is just the way many many people think OUTISDE the states.

How about you all take the time and check back where Obama already traveled this year, listen back to his speeches (or reread them) and also read back the comments on those speeches.

There is human life OUTSIDE of North America! I promise!

Angelito, my appologies, but that seems just as arrogant as you claim Americans to be.  A few speeches are all well and good, and yes I acknowledge that he has given other nations a more possitive light about America.  Compared to some of the other nominees that I have discovered (and listed), and the fact that some of the things happened AFTER his nomination (febuary .. remember?) I just can not think that he is the most deserving person at this time.

Well, Obama's "Bash America" tours of Europe have given some people warm fuzzies. Funny thing is I don't hear "leaders" of other natins bashing their own nations.

Frankly other nations don't have to disapprove or approve of our president.

Oh, and Sarkozy said Obama is naive and arrogant and I agree with him. Some people are beginning to see Obama for who he is instead of Obama the rock star.

Well, one thing is for sure. No other US president in history has bashed the US constantly like Obma does. In fact I have never heard the leader of any other nation do that about their own nation.

Yes, there is human life outside of North America, but how much intelligent life is there is open for debate.

With Bush's re-election the people of the US have set a standard that's difficult to underbid, I'd venture.

The military presence in the Middle East is greater now than it was while Bush was in office. Iran continues to be embargoed. Israel continues to be freely funded.

Nobody has relearned diplomacy and friendship again. I have no idea what you're even talking about in the last sentence. Bush was a very poor president, agreed, but he used plenty of diplomacy and discussion. If he only knew the way of force/power/and violence, you would be dead right now.

What was originally a just retaliation has become a long-term occupation, and Obama has embraced this more than Bush ever did.

Rehashed propaganda. Bush worked with Muslims all the time.

Your post after this one funnels into even deeper pits, so I won't grace it with a response, but I'll once again post who I think could have been a better pick. What do you think?

Sorry to say Binabik, but you EXACTLY prooved my point with this post. And as long as americans keep that kind of attitude, the situation won't change. As long as you think you can rule the world by your own, you will face more and more enemies. Obama seems to have accepted that...many of his people not...

Ever asked yourself WHY the military presence is higher than before? It won't take too many soldiers to conquer a foreign country, because most things are done by machines. But turning a dictatorship into a democracy with so many "old fashioned" and radical faction like the Taliban takes many more human help. Imagine what would happen if the UN would go out of Afghanistan all of a suden now. What do you think?

So you agree with the Bush (and Obama) policy? That it is other country's right and business to move in and forcefully instill a government that suits our personal sensibilities? If that is so, then I don't have anything to add, since I assumed you didn't agree with this.

In my opinion, it's not other countries jobs to move in and create a government to their fitting. These things have to evolve and happen on their own. Africa is full of countries that would be disgusting by the typical Westerner's standards; that doesn't mean we invade them, occupy them, and forcefully create a new government. Such thinking is not far off from the "White Man' Burden" mentality during the colonial years.

As to what would happen if the U.N. abandoned Afghanistan: I think a tyrannical regime would rise up and take control of the country, which is exactly what the country was like beforehand.

Quote:
Could you give some examples where Bush was so dimplomatic and what the results of this great attitude have been?

More polarizing. I never said Bush created a great attitude; I explicitly said he was a very poor president.

I think it's obvious Bush understood the use of diplomacy to a certain extent based on the fact that he didn't turn the entire Middle East into a war zone. Pakistan remains a sovereign nation that has relatively good relations with the U.S., despite the great pressure between itself and the U.S. in the later half of Bush's term as it tried to pursue Al Qaeda members within it's borders.

Quote:

And what childish comment is that?

It's the truth. Your post is steeped in exaggerations. It's not like he went around and shoehorned everybody and anybody.
***

By the way, what do you think? Obama or this guy? I'm sure there are other great candidates too; I'm just using the first good one I heard of.
