HOW MOVEMENT IN COMBAT WILL WORK

Movement will be simple. Look at your party number on the battle map that will be already set up on the beginning with you on your given starting position. All of you roll your initiatives, as I explained before, and I roll the initiatives for the monsters. The higher initiatives act first. When it is your turn and you want to move just tell me in Red text where ou want your character to move.

Example: Character 1 is located on D4 on this simple battle map example. Suppose Character 2 were an enemy and Character 1 wants to attack him in melee. Charater 1 tells me in his turn: (Char Name) I’m moving to D7. That’s it. Of Course he will want to attack too, no problem just say it: (Char name) I’ll use power X against monster X., in this case exemplified by Character 2. He makes his rolls and the round continues. Of course you can do it all at once: (Char Name) I’m moving to D7 an attacking monster 2 with power X. than he makes his attack roll and damage roll if he hits, posting the rolls and results too on red text. You can’t move on holes unless you want to fall on them (lol) and obstacles, unless you ask me or I tell you if you can. Remember you need the necessary Number of Speed Points to move throug the tiles (each SP = 1 tile). And remember to keep track of the tile you and the monsters are.

STRONG SUGGESTION: ADD ME TO MSN SO THE COMBAT BECOMES INSTANTANEOUS WITH THE FORUMS - diogo_fer@ig.com.br.

IF you forgot the rules read the following (IT IS MEANT TO BE A REFERENCE FOR YOU):

SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER:

(Sorry for posting rules here on the RP thread, but as you all know by now I get a HTTP 406 error on the OOC when trying to edit the main post so I can’t edit or update the rules)

You have 1 action point. Use it. You can make any extra action you wish in your turn by using it like taking a extra standard action by the cost of one action point. You recover them after a extended rest (12 in-game hours) or after reaching Milestones (winning in two encounters against monsters in sequence, without sleeping between them).

When in combat keep in mind that if you have a monster close to you and you move away from him he is getting a Opportunity Attack (OA -  a triggered simple attack roll) on you. You can avoid that by executing a move action called Shifting that allows you to move 1 square away from a monster without triggering a OA. When you shift you can only move that 1 square for the rest of the turn but you can get away from the monster (s) without giving him or them OAs. OAs also happen when you use a ranged power/attack/spell with an adjacent monster (s) to you. You also get OAs against the enemy too so keep that in mind to your strategies.

Read and understand what all your powers do. If you have any doubt ask me using green text on the RP thread, post on the OOC thread or send me a HC messege, no problem. It’s a good idea to see your ally’s powers and skills too. As you know I posted them on the OOC thread so you can think of any possible strategies and who to ask for help or healing.

Remember that you have Encounter and Daily Powers and use them. If you are on a above average battle (in terms of difficulty) don’t be stingy with your encounter (red) and daily powers (black), they are rechargeable anyway and you can always rest after a fight. It is better to use them then to die. Ask me to take a extended rest of 12 hours to recover daily powers, encounter powers, healing Surges and full HP to all party members. Encounter Powers are recovered too by just taking a Short Rest of 6 in-game hours, however you don’t automatically heal all HP on a short rest, you must use Healing Surges and/or potions if ou want ot heal on that case.

Remember to use your relevant skill checks. Tell me, for instance, that you want to make a Perception Check somewhere and then roll it using red text. To know more about monsters you have to ask every time you want to make a skill check to see any extra info besides it’s stats. Unless your passive skill allows automatical revealing of monster Lore, but think about making perception checks, don’t forget them to perceive things about the enviroment and avoid being surprised by enemies. Most skill checks costs nothing, a Perception Check, for instance, is just a minor action and you don’t loose the attack on your turn to do it. If you are not sure what you can do with one of your skills ask me.

Remember to write on your Character Sheets any additions I tell you to add. You don’t want to miss that hard earned XP, gold and magical items do you?

When you reach 1000 XP you level up to lvl 2. To do that just go to our character sheet and chose level up to lvl 2 on your lvl up tab. You get to choose additional new things like powers every level so you get more powerful. Once you lvl up just send me the char again with the choices you made.

Reviewing the Basic Rules (very easy, really):

Initiative Roll: Just roll 1d20 and look on our Character Sheet (CS), under Initiative (page one top left) what bonus to add to the roll (if you ave a 0 there you currently have no bonuses so just roll 1d20). The formula, in case you are curious, is: 1d20+1/2 your level+dexterity modifiers+any other bonuses;
Movement: You can move in your turn the equivalent to your Speed Points - SPs (or Movement points - MPs) on your CS (top right under movement). Each SP is equal to 1 tile on battle maps. Attacking consumes no Speed Points. You must use them to reach a intended object, target or moving around for strategical purposes;
Power/Attack Roll: 1d20+modifiers, just look on your CS to see what modifiers you apply to each individual power or regular attack roll with your weapon. Powers are on page 3 and the modifiers are on the top left square of the Power Card. Normal, non-power attacks work by rolling your weapon dice [W]+STR modifier if melee and DEX modifier if ranged. You can pretty much ignore regular attacks (they will be used only when you get OAs against a enemy), just use your at-will powers (green) always instead, the have infinite uses; you don’t need to rest to recharge them;
Damage Roll: For a melee basic attack look under your Attack Workspace on page 1 of CS to what dice you should roll and modifiers to apply. For the Damage rolls of Powers see the description under “Hit” to see what happens and what you need to roll. The [W] there is just our weapon damage roll like short sword = 1d6 damage. You don’t even need to look at that formula, just look below any formulas on the power card, there’s both your attack roll bonus and damage roll you must make in sequence down there. Some powers have no damage and are special, giving you special effects. Read them to know what they grant you. Or read the whole description to know what dice you need to roll, some powers (some encounter powers like Dragon Breath from Dragonborn chars) you have to calculate the damage after reading the card, no big deal;
Defense: To know your defenses like Armor Class, Reflex, Will, etc. just look on your CS the numbers are all there already calculated for you at every level. Enemy monsters will try to obtain a number superior to your defenses on their attacks rolls to hit you. Monsters have a variety of Powers too and they will use them so not only AC is relevant. Your defenses are on the middle of page 1 on your CS;
Skill Check/Ability Check: you roll 1d20+your skill modifier+ any unusual bonuses against a Difficult Callenge number (DC) given by me or a skill check rolled by a opponent (tis is called a opposed check, the monter rolls are done by me, the DM). For the modifiers to your skills just look on the CS, bottom left of page 1. To the left of each skill you have the column with the modifier you add to your skill check rolls, it can be either positive or negative. To make Ability Checks, like STR checks, DEX checks, etc. against a number determined by me (DC), just roll the same 1d20+your ability modifier, all on page one, top left of the CS, second column to the right of the ability itself;
Generic Saving Throw: you must obtain 10 or more on a 1d20 roll to be saved. I’ll tell you when you need to do it;
Hit Points (HP) and number of Healing Surges (HSs): those are displayed right below the abilities. You can see the description of your particular Healing Surge on the Power Cards, page 3 the are used, as you may have already immagined, to recover your HP during a fight, similar to a potion. You can use only one HS per encounter and it costs a standard action (so you cannot attack and use a HS on same turn), unless a power or someone else allows you to use one for free. You regain all spent HSs after a extended rest.

When Uncouncious and dying you make a generic Saving Throw every turn, for 3 turns. If you fail 3 consecutive times your char is dead and can he ressurected via spells. Ou can carry is body to a temple and pa for a resurrection spell. However tere are plent of opportunities to avoid death, like using potion, HSs and the Healing Skill, ask a Cleric to use his Healing Skill on you when health is going down. Dme Chars may ae high Healing Skill too, the are not restricted to Clerics. You can’t use Healing Skill to heal yourself. The Healing Skill works that way: you stand adjacent to the target and administer him first aid by rolling a Healling Skill Check Against 10 DC, if you suceed the target spends his HS or “Second Wind” for the Encounter automatically and without loosing his turn (no defense bonus from Second Wind or HS in this case). If someone is dying (0HP) you can stabilize the dying by staying adjacent to it and making a Healing Skill Check against 15 DC so the target “stops dying”. However, he cannot get back to the fight. To recover him just drag his body and take a extended, 12-hour, rest. He will be fully healed after that and ready to fight again.

Use combat actions during combat too (like Bull Rush, Grab, etc.), they were described on subsection A.5 of the OOC main post thread. Some Powers work in conjuction with them, or when your character is “bloodied” (half HP), some powers allow you to gain advantage in form of bonuses against the bloodied target, or the fact you yourself is are bloodied. Some monsters get bonuses against you if you are bloodied too.

Red Text for Character to Character conversation, call for aid, etc. Also used to talk to NPCs and respond to them. In combat you post all our actions and rolls in red too.

Green Text for forum user to forum user talk. Only if you have a fair reason and can’t say something in-character like “(User X to User Y) I think the DM wants us to go this way now”.

Blue Text only by me, the DM, to narrate the adventure. Also NPCs will talk to you via blue text and you answer with red text.

                    TURMOIL IN DHEDLUK

              Introductory Narrative to the Adventure

It is the year 1479 DR on the Forgotten Realms. Much has changed since the Spellplague and the wolrd is a even more dangerous place for adventurers. The forces of evil and chaos seens to be gaining the upper hand in the cosmic conflict that encompasses the Material Plane, and the prospects are of many conflicts and hardships ahead for those of good heart.

On this setting you decide to set out and become an adventurer for your own reasons, and turn your attention to the Kingdom of Cormyr, a strong Kingdom on it’s own right, and the lands around it, particularly to the city of Arabel and it’s surrounding lands. Rumor has it that all kinds of conflict are sprouting on this once peacefull land. Occupied by conflicts elsewhere and the matters of State the nobles of Cormyr have little time and patience to deal with the problems that arise on little neighbouring communities like that of Dhedluk.

Opportunistic creatures prey on the weak and innocent. Villages and farmlands lies almost defenseless. In time, the problems in the supplying of raw materials to the war effort of Cormyr is going to turn the tide of their war against them, should the nobles continue with their neglectful attitude towards their provinces.

One such province, Dhedluk, is a village supplier of Wood, Fish and Raw Minerals to Arabel, a city of the Kingdom of Cormyr. It is from this village and the surrounding King’s Forest that the most recent problems begun. The population of Dhedluk has been dropping in the recent months, trading routes have being lost due to unchecked marauding bandits. The creatures from King’s Forest have been acting with a strange violent urge in the same period. And it is rummored they are responsible for the disappearances of people in the middle of the night in Dhedluk.

Dhedluk has almost no military defenses. The town militia do what it can within it’s limited power to help the villagers but they have being unable to end the turmoil in the village. Under this circunstances Xain, the Village Elder of Dhedluk, has sent a desperate call for adventurers to bring peace again to this once peaceful community. You heard the call for aid of Dhedluk on the "Happy Rat" tavern when travelling to the city Arabel, and is considering who to adventure with and go for the aid of the village, with your own reasons in mind.

                         TURMOIL IN DHEDLUK

                              ACT I

Outside of Arabel you find yourselves on the "Happy Rat" Tavern. There you are free to interact, buy drinks etc. A men is speaking out loud near the main exit of the tavern about "Helping Dhedluk", he was paid by someone from there to divulge information. He gives each of you this information, regarding the adventure and it's general destination as panflets. The maps are all poorly made and the road to get there is not clear:

                         A CALL FOR AID

                           GIVEN MAP

DM to players:

You all add those 2 items to your inventory and Character Sheet or just copy to your PC.

You are welcome to chat, interact, drink (ask the tavern keeper or the guys with white hats for menu and prices) get aquainted, etc. The "Happy Rat" will close at midnight (I tell you when if you are still inside there). Outside there's a guard:

Aye, You start on the "Happy Rat" tavern outside of Arabel now. "Free" action there so drink, chat, etc (you don't need to point the exact square you are going, just say where and who you are talking too). You received the latest call for adventure from a guy giving the panflets away, but you need friends to get there and more info. Use red text to say what you want to a NPC or a player, I answer for the NPCS. Any other actions ask me first on green text.

You notice the obvious oriental origin of the barkeep in the middle and the bartenders as you aproach him. He is clearly the owner of the tavern since all others are constantly answering to his orders. He is also quite fatty.

(Barkeep to Brandis): "Welcome to the Happy Rat sir! We have some fine drinks here but, as owner of this fine stabilishment, I'm proud to say that our reputation comes from our 'spicy' food. Before showing regular drinks could I suggest you our special 1470 ale plus the 'House Special' 'Spicy Beef'? The cats surely like it, Oh was I speaking now? Sorry, sometimes I speak to myself. Terence walked through the bar door and looked around.
There was someone on his way out and Terence, just sitting around was buffered out of the way by his massive shoulder.
Mean guy: Watch it, stupid.
He took a few steps back and saw another man taking Terrence by the shoulder.
Mean guy2: He doesent like you.
Terence: Im sorry.

He made to turn away and sit somewhere else but he grabbed his shoulder again.
Mean guy2: You be careful, were wanted men. Ive got the death sentence in twelve regions!
Terence: YOU be careful, some people think im already dead in feefteen regions, that means ive escaped 15 death sentences.

At this the other man just laughed and pushed Terence out of the way.

Terence sat down at the nearest table(Kiyamera is sitting at it).

Unsure what to do next Terence used the most universal ice breaker at the person sitting in front of him.
Terence: Hello.

Ok do it if you wish since its not disruptive.

(DM to Terence): After seeing you were apparently mistreated in your entrance in the tavern, a Tavern Patron aproaches you just as you sit down just after you sit near Kiyamera.

(Tavern Patron to Terence): "Could you spare 5 gold pieces boy? I got 6 kids and they are sick, plus I need to buy some stuff. I return it to you tomorrow here on this same tavern?"

Terence frowned slightly.

Thought: Its not a question of gold here, Father did sent me off with some gold for my journey but i need it just as much as he does; you dont survive in the city without gold jingling in your pockets thats for sure.

Thinking that the children needed it more than he, Terence pulled out his coin bag and took out five gold coins with deliberate slowness. He dropped them into the hand of the beggar one by one. Then he stuffed it in his pocket.

Terence to Beggar: Blessings of the gods apon tee.

He then turned back to the patron he had said Hi to and waited for a reply.

(DM to Terence): The Tavern Patron goes immediately for the bar and spends your money on drinks. It seems he was lying after all. You start to learn how things work in the city: you can't trust everyone. Despite your good heart you know now that other people are going to try and take what belongs to you. You also miss home a little remembering how nice the people on the farm were and wonders who can be your friends now, on this harsh world.

(DM to Brandis): Now you know why the Dragon Tongue Whiskey is called that. You have a sensation your mounth and tongue are burning like a dragon's breath just came out of it. Your face became red and tears are dropping from your eyes. The good thing is the Barkeep gives you some information after you bought your drink. The costier the drink the better the info he tells anyone.

(Barkeep to Brandis): "Sir? Are you ok? hehe buy more drinks now *Ahem*. I see you are not used to our stronger drinks. Actually you picked the stronger one.

So you are going to Dhedluk? That boy over there near the entrance that gave you those map and manuscript is a TownCrier. Since he has been hired to distribute the Call for Aid for Dhedluk my tavern has only gotten more clients so I allow him to stay there.

Dhedluk is not that close from here you know? There are many dangers on the road. I don't know how to get there and most people won't know either, since it's a village full of woodcutters, miners and such. There's nothing of interest for us there. Also the road is far too dangerous for someone to go alone.

If you look around you will see many adventurers like you. That Tiefling girl over there? I can bet she is one too. However most ppl is afraid of her since she has horns, red skin and all that. But she is intriguing, she just sits there and doesn't talk much."

((OOC: I never remember wether you are a gnome or a halfling, but seing as you're a rogue I'll call you halfling ))

Kiyamera looked at the little halfing as he sits down at her table. The halfling slowely said hello.
"So now he decides to ask if it's okay to sit there?" she thought as she raised her head and looked down on the halfling with a gaze like those born in nobility. "Now, I've never been a noble woman, but my father had been so rich he could might as well buy a title." is what Kiyamera was thinking as the ragged filth of a man came and begged the halfling for money.
"What is this? The table for the poor?" Kiyamera watched as the man came up with a rediculously unconvincing story about wife and kids starving at home, and was utterly shocked to see the halfling fall for it. This one was a dumbwit.
Kiyamera observed as the halfling realised that he had been tricked and she then spoke "I suppose you're the village idiot then. You should be more careful about where you invest your money. Now, what do you want?"
