Poll Question:
Your inner Macho

Today I was visiting the Dentist for a little surgery. Nothing special really just what Dentists usually do open your tooth destroy whatever bad there is inside it and the rebuild it. I guess many know the situation... well while he was tinkering with my divine teeth he found something else and my surgery got a tiny bit more complex which resulted in the Dentist offering me the choice of getting anesthetics for that that area. Now... the Dentist wasn't the only one working on me. He had an assistant. A female and very attractive assistant. While I hope we can all agree that letting a women fiddle around with your teeth and vacuum clean the build up of saliva from your mouth isn't the most amazing way to come across, right? So of course you have to stand out a little in one way or another and since there were no bears around to wrestle I had another idae...
And well when he offered me that anesthetic there were these two little voices in my head
A: "Aw yeah take it! He said he'd be doing something close to your nerve and you know how obnoxiously painful that can be oO. Why are you even thinking about this?"
B: "Anesthetics? Really *my-name*? Dude it's not that bad. Course it'll hurt a little but you can take that much can't you lol? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger you pussy. And that chick is TOTALLY hot"

...well I went for B. And the pain may have been a little more intense than I had anticipated wrestling the bear might have been the easier option (in other words my central nervous system will probably hate me for a while. THAT WAS F*CKING PAINFUL OO.) but I only flinched a little and held through till the end and (as childish and immature as it may be) was happy that I had been a picture of manliness and obviously she had melted away at my display of supherhuman pain tolerance.

Well heeding to your inner macho probably isn't something that shows rationality, matureness or wisdom or whatever other qualities you assign to a person who acts on the foundation of logic, but well often enough he provides you with a moment of comedy, shame and maybe (if you're lucky enough or just really good at what you do) great triumph! Which in my opinion is well worth not logical and grownup all the time and as long as you follow him on your own choice I believe all is still good. So when have you ever heeded the proud call of your inner macho and has he made you do?

Quick question do you think you have a inner macho?

Sorry to say Azzie, but she probably will make fun of you with her friends.

Most irrational choice you made I'm afraid.

Oh trust me I've done stuff a lot more stupid than that.

And well of course you two wouldn't understand what this thread is about but well you are what you are so...yeah next time there'll be a "Of course not I'm either mvass or TheDeath" option I promise.
And actually I'm not sure whether she's going to laugh at me since I didn't give her any reason to (I didn't show that I was in pain except for flinching a bit when he would do stuff really close to my nerve) but on the way out she smiled at me (not a "omg-your-such-a-STALLION-do-me-in-the-closet-NOW" smile but as far as I could tell not a "lol-you-fu*king-idiot-males-are-so-stupid" smile either) in a nice way. The thing is it was fun^^ (in retro perspective of course lol at that moment I wanted to kill myself for not heeding to logic). And unfortunately I can't edit the poll to correct my last sentence which was supposed to reach the logic-prostituteszombies.

EDIT:I can't say w-word for prostitues either? Does someone have a list of the words?

Not being logical is one thing, but not being rational when your suffering is at stake, for an irrational illusion (for no real gain whatsoever!)... yeah that's kinda bad.

BTW I'm pretty sure her smile had nothing to do with you "enduring pain" (for the lack of a better term).

Of course not she'd also smiled if I had taken those painkillers. But still that spark may not have been there... and you can not be sure about there not being any real gain actually (not that it DID work this time^^ but that doesn't mean it doesn't have to work always). And now hush before you make me try to date that women just to freakin prove you wrong!

And you still don't get it. It was fun. I got a good story out of it and I felt some hardcore pain (that wasn't the fun part but still it's an experience) and I'm still healthy. So it's all cool.

No man, I think all the gains are just in your head, and that "spark" is also in your head. That's what I implied.

Or worse, she took you as an emo!

I think a lot of it depends of on how you're raised. I don't think I have that voice. If somebody offered me anesthetic when I'm about to do something painful, I'd take it. I also don't have issues crying around people if I see something very touching, so I think that's a sign my inner macho is pretty much buried. I'm not at all a feminine person though: I'm pretty shrewd, have a beard, and am almost immune to being insulted (though in some ways machos are the most offendable type of people) I'm just not very macho either... I dunno.

Those with lack of inner macho are dead inside Taking the hard road has its merits, gives spice in life. However it really depends where you choose to apply it, in this case I would probably have taken the painkiller. Azzie chose to see it as a challenge, took the pain and endured it, that's cool. He's got another personal accomplishment under his belt

And seriously, sometimes don't you just want to do something by yourself without help? It's not so different.

I like to be an alpha male. It's fun. Being assertive, competitive and never allowing people to push you around is just a good way to live.

I don't like showing off though.

Hard to combine those two, but it works... I hope.

I'd like to say I have a pretty strong inner macho. My friends and family regularly see I do not complain when I'm in physical pains such as if I just fell over onto concrete and got a lot of scratches on my hands and knees, or if I busted up my hand in anger or if I even feel quite sick in my stomach or if I have a major headache.

Weird metaphor I have to say, and here's why literally.

I know some people who *like* to have fractured arms (or broken arms, you know, broken bones actually) and wave around how "cool" they are for "enduring the pain".

Literally, when they become older, they will HATE themselves for it, they will have massive pains in their respective members of the body (that they fractured). I wouldn't be surprised if they would actually be DEAD, literally, long before a more eh... rational person would come past the same age.

There's another saying: if you need to show off to show your manliness, it means you have problems with your manliness in the first place, as you feel unsecured about your ego.

I don't complain if I'm in pain, and I can take a lot of pain but I don't think of myself as a macho because of it. It's just a personal ability or a disability.

Enduring pain isn't really THAT macho.

Just think about birth...

One of the advantages of macho morality is being able to say is this the best you can do pansies? and mean it. Feels good man

@Death
There is a fine line between manliness and being an idiot. Do you really know such people?
