ebay - good place to buy?

I am looking at Nintendo DS' (lite or no lite)

And they cost around half of the danish price but I am a bit concerned about bying things from other countries... You know, I want to get my DS in good shape and I want everything I payed for

Is it a trustworthy site?

Yes..and no.  It is a hit and miss site to be honest.  Buy from people/business with over 1000+ feedback and at least a 80% approval rating for the best chance.  A lot of people give themselves positive feedback, but 1000+ is a good sign that it is not all one or two people giving the feedback.

Warranty will cost a lot if it breaks though.

I answered your question in hcm.  It really depends on who you buy it from.  Which is the problem with these sites.  80% of them are ok, 10% of them are hit or miss, 5% are scams, and 5% should be shot into deep space.  Problem is, sometimes it is hard to tell which is which.

I've used Amazon a lot, but mostly with small things like CDs, DVDs, etc., and always look at ratings - and I'll say, don't buy with people less than 99 % positive ratings. 80 % positive means 20 % are negative, which is way too many.

That being said, I agree with Death that with electronics and other products where you may want to have a warranty, I don't really think it's worth the risk to buy it from abroad, and much less from a site like eBay.

I've never had an issue buying anything online ever, and I've done a lot of it. It saves you money and it saves you time. Yeah, there's a very obscure chance your identity will somehow get stolen, blah blah blah, but there's a more likely chance I'll die in a violent car accident driving to a shopping center to get it myself. If it's something simple like a DVD or book I'll usually use Amazon, though with something more expensive I'd use Ebay to milk down the price.

I use Ebay. I've bought from other countries. I love Ebay, I just am cautious. I look at the ratings (like most other people with common sense) and if it's less than around 95% positive then I usually don't buy from them. Every one of my purchases has been a success, from other countries and my own and with no hassles whatsoever. Just gotta do it smart and carefully.

I haven't had anything broken yet but I think my dad has. I think he contacted the person he bought it off and was able to get a replacement. Actually, I remember he bought a DVD drive for me. It came, and it didn't work. So he did contact the seller and we got a replacement pretty quickly.

Ditto what Alci said. You want at least 98% feedback, preferably 99%+

There are enough people with feedback in that range that you don't need to mess with anyone lower. 80% feedback is absolutely TERRIBLE.

Read EVERY WORD of their ad and understand what it means. Don't forget to add the shipping costs when comparing prices, a lot of people don't do that for some reason.

Also, as others mentioned, try Amazon. I like them better than Ebay, but they don't have as much selection.

Thanks for the heads up!

On topic, been using amazon for years and never had any problems.

I remember my Dell warranty was still valid although the laptop was not bought in the US, all I had to do is find the local authorized repair center. But then again, warranty can be limited to the country of origin only.

I use Ebay alot.
I have alot of favorite sellers.
Mostly you can look at the feedback & see who is trustworthy enough.

Some sell 1000's of things & still have 100-99% positive feedback.

I think Ebay is a safe place to buy, as long as your seller has at least 95% positive feedback, tough 98% would be better. One thing that is out of the seller's hand however is delivery. You should therefore ask for a tracking number for your package. It might cost a little bit more, but you can track your shipment and have the guarantee that it arrives.

In general I've found ebay to be a good place to buy stuff at, and yes I've ran into problems, but over the years i've concluded the delivery guys in my area are just morons and the sellers have no control over it so I can't really blame them.
