Points system.

Hey, I played a game the other day against a plebe and went from having 1016 points up to 1046 points. Now that's 30 points for a win against a plebe, big deal.

But then I play against a cadet and I win again (albeit with much difficulty) and my points tally jumps up to 1070.

Now that's 24 points for a win against a cadet and 30 points for a win against a plebe. What gives? Do I get 10 points for a win against a Sergeant? LOL

How many do I get if I knock off General Jinxer?

1 point or 2?

Lol, the system is point, not rank based...

Though chances are that if you beat jinxer you'd get kicked out of Toh

rankings calculations summarized

Shae, on the info pages it tells how points get calculated from games.  It is a base 30 for win and 20 for loss plus modification to that amount based on the difference between you and the point rank of the person you played.

You example makes perfect sense.

You beat the plebe (large point differential) and jump up points.

You beat the cadet (smaller point differential now since you jumped up points from beating the plebe) and points go up but not as significantly as beating the plebe.

Hope this helps,

Whohaahaa

Anyone thinking the points system to be changed in ToH should look at TOH, and make a list of all the things that made it successful.  The points/ranking system is one.  And if anyone cares to know, the whole system has been copyrighted recently, for my fear its system could be used by many major gameplay sites if they only knew about it... It is truly that addictive.

Homm is a tiny game compared to many others out there, but look what TOH has done to the 'tiny' online community.

The points system remains, through heroes4, with the only modification made in the addition of the RPG-ish profiles for high rankers.

Hmm interesting..

well everyone seems to think ToH is flawless.

I haveta disagree with this statement as it is not perfect. Am not saying to overhaul the system, just to trying to improve the exsisting system. I know Kres was interested in improving 'his' divisions tournment(that thread died when he left ). The current point system has alot of good things going for it. I wont list them as there are too many and I will miss some for sure

But one area it lacks, imo, is it isolates people by their playing ability. The game is largerly luck based, so playing ability doesnt always make that big difference, exspecially on a random map.
Dont agrue with me on this one, cause i will beat you everytime that you are stuck in a small area with nutting. And i am 'stuck' with 3 utopias and 4 matching castles. If you play many random maps you would have seen this situation b4, cause i have too many times

I know I knocked off some good players just cause of my luck. I went over the saves and saw that they were clearly the better player(and learned from them).

I haveta think not enuff learning is going on this season as there is not nearly as many colonels or generals this season as last one. I guess most of em all left or only play once a month nowadays. But shouldnt there be a new batch of em these season.

Maybe negative differenials would help....but than the headhunting would be even worse...
Or perhaps that apprentership program that people talked about a while ago would help??

I dont know but would still love to read more suggestions on how to improve the system, not posts saying that it is flawless and that it doesnt to need to improve.

Well Jex, Im not stating that TOH is flawless.

But on the point system ur clearly barking up the wrong tree. Face it, alot of the generals and colonels from last season and season 1 has stopped, and those that still plays many have cut down on the number of games.
That means ur now one of the top notch, and that means u will get headhunted, but if I havent misunderstood u, U urself headhunted the best players last season, to learn from them. Now its ur turn to be the mentor
People wanna play u, perhaps for points, but my guess is theres quite a few of them who wanna play u to learn.

The point system is ingineous cause it makes it possible to see wether ur opponent is in ur own class, or alot better or worse. Makes sense as it gives u a huge advantage in finding a good game, compared to no TOH

So if u wanna find flaws in TOH, dont go looking at its strongest point, u might find that most if not all will disagree with u. And frankly if u dont wanna responses that all say TOH is flawless, find another point. ;P
My guess its all ur gonna get in this thread

good post

nice one, maybe your right. One thing is for sure I dont like the bulleye's your painting on my back, lol. I dont really care for the role of being hunted. Oh well I do think ToH can still be improved, but complications would prolly be too much for the regular area to be affected by it.
Maybe ideas for another subtourney......

Yup, thats the beauty of sub tournies

Prolly why TOH has lasted so long, all the sub tournies gives people an opportunity to play like they want to. There is something for everybodys taste. To bad CoW was to much administration. I really loved that one

Suggestions

Well instead of saying TOH needs to be improved, make suggestions on how the points system or some other item needs to be improved.  But you gotta be realistic, for the current point/ranking system is the most complex of any online tournament that ever existed on the net... whos gonna do the extra work?

But consider that Homm4 ToH will be a new site with new programming; so if there are ideas they must be implemented before the programming/automation begins.

Well Ves, u can always find some flaws if u look hard enugh
But all in all this is a great tournie, and eventhough I wrecked my brain to come up with something I didnt like, I couldnt find anything
So thx for giving me and all other HoMM3 addicts an opportunity to play tournament style, and I sincerely hope TOH in HoMM4 will be as good as it is now
I dont care if people find this as some serious brown nosing, but sometimes its good just to be gratefull for what other people do

Well said def

Their are no problems with the way the tournament is run.  This tournament runs as good if not better than many organized competitions with paid workers.  The only problems that arise are usually with people... NOT the system.

Having said that- to anyone who is bored with TOH/heroes... Take a break!!!  Anything that is played everyday for a year gets boring
Also check out the h4 toh site player profiles.  It will an exciting new feature to strive for

Jex u better brace yourself coz U have seen nothing yet

when u get into 1st place (as i did by accident ) then you will see what real headhunting means. I was swamped with messages. Killa was messaging me the minute  my Zone or ICQ came on

I think you are contradicting yourself: On one hand you are saying it's hard for you to find a game in your own level (CAP+) and on the other hand you say people are headhunting you.

If you really don't care about points then losing to a skilled headhunter will be great, you will have a fun game and maybe learn something.

If the headhunters are not so skilled then if you like your points then you will have few more and a win

But sadly you can't have your cake and eat it too: play with a skilled headhunter who has many points and will still lose LOL

And please don't complain there are no people to play, with your 1750+ you will need opponents with less then 1200 points to not get any points at all. And i have found that you can use ur high rank to your advantage.

play people around 400 points lower then you are, this way they lose nothing if they lose, and you still get 10 points.
I am sure if you took your points lighter yu will get more games

Also Tymeria might be a good alternative. Sure the skill levels are enourmously mismatched, but the Gamepoint reward system will solve that soon. Already there are games where a lower ranked playr starts with 18 000 + gold worth of bonuses in gold, buildings, units or heroes. That is over 100% more gold then you have to start with (15k at 130%)

Now you can be really proud is you beat a less skilled player who has such an advantage

tymeria

I switched from tymeria to encounters.
Tymeria has a big logic flaw.
You play a blind map and lose.
You than play that same map against a new opponent who has never played it..
Hmmmm this has to be a gross oversight.

Besides Encounters gives me, my random fix. it is hard to find people who like to play big random maps

Ya i have some flawed logic in this department.
Truth be told once I made colonel I was giving away alot of points and didnt care.

But after a little while I climbed to the top. And now I care. Just like before when I was about to make colonel, I cared about points. When I lose some points I will stop caring again.

As for the headhunting bit. I dont like playing people I dont know. As last season there was alot more cheaters, this season I dont know... And some headhunters think they are good, but arent. And some of them come up with some crazy rulez, plus they like to pick castle types and heroes ugh

personally i think the pointsystem works just fine. There is no need to change. i submit this pointsystem proposal for Lastplace.

BRACKET 1....1-999  win= 30 loss=-20 doesnt matter if you have 1 point and beat 999 you still get 30 play bracket 2 win 40  loss-15  plays bracket 3 win 45  loss -10

BRACKET 2.......1000-1400 win 30 loss -20  plays person in bracket one win-15 loss-40 plays bracket 3 win 40 loss -15

BRACKET 3........1401-3000 win 30 loss -20 if plays bracket 1 win-10 loss-45 if plays bracket 2 win- 15 loss 40.

Lastplace wants to hear your opponion about this.

Thats all for now

I think we just should add the same limits on upper side as we already have on a lover side. For example if Jex win a plebe with difference >600 points he will get 1 point and opponent lose 1 point so in other case if opponent win he should get 60 and Jex lose no more then 40 points.

I must defend...

Tymeria is about challenges on various levels...and about blurring the importance between winning and losing...and of course primarily about fairness...

logic flaws are always dealt with...and improvements will always be made on the part of those who wish them to be.

I believe toh is the best tournament for most people...and Vesuvius has a keen eye for what the masses desire.

what's wrong with playing a map you never seen and your opponent seen b4? You are more l;ikely to lose, true, but if you win its very satisfying and frustrating for your opponent ( just ask Shamon who rushed me w2d2 on map i never seen b4 ), makes for a great game and apparently now you also get bonus points too.

Also in many instances both you and your opponent will play the map 1st time or both of you will play it the second or 3rd time together.

It's not every single game that has to be balanced in Tymeria it's the overall tournament. And I think it's going in the right direction.

interesting I guess i dont know enough about the overall tournment.....
But what i did see was my father get absolutely waxed!!
By a guy who had played the map b4 and had prolly went over his saves from b4 to plan out the best strategy.

He went for garrisons that contained big troops for him, than went and killed my father's garrisons. My old man was still looking for his mines. Needless to say it was a quick and ugly game.
it turned me off, but hey thats just me.
By all means enjoy yourself

Grandmasters

Though not all will want to participate in it, there will be a 'Grandmasters' Final starting around August.  Only 1600+ point colonels can participate.  Though a long way off, it will be interesting to see who participate.  Remember the rules on that are 3rd party host, map chosen at random and unknown to both players until the start of the game.
