mapful of skills

Does it take skills to win on a toh map, or is it just luck, I mean everyone knows where everything is on a specific self made map.
You know the objective, pretty much know when the opponent is coming to attack.
Mostly luck is envolved & little skills
What about random where anything goes, I mean cant a person really test their skill, not knowing where their opponent is, exploring unknown territory.
Plus if you put on the time limit to say 2 min, do you have time to look in view air or earth, maybe just a peek.
Dont you think the skill lies in random, or selfmade even maps or both?

Edit: revived!@

Aculias, my friend.  Pick a map, any map.  Toh or random, it doesn't matter.  I betcha I will beat you, regardless of the map you pick.

The best people in toh are equally good at randoms or toh maps.  Why?  Because they are extrememly good at the game.  Luck is huge factor yes, especially with 2 players of equal skill.

But...I tend to think that randoms are luckier then toh maps.  My last 2 games against JTL, he won due to his starting position, and the fact that his utopias gave him better artifacts.  Is he a better player then me?  I think so, yes.  But was it his skill that defeated me?  I'm not as sure.

It happens.  Just try to have fun and play your best!    If your not having fun, your playing the wrong people.

maps that are luckier than others:
- hg
- bm
- wve
- dw
- randoms
etc..

maps that are more skill than others:
- 7 lakes
- universal commander
- battle for honor
- warring kingdoms
ANY map that has NO random set relics.
there's a TON of other skill maps, but they're less popular.

If you want an even match, play an opponent on a map NEITHER one of you have played, on a non-luck map.  To me, those have always been the funnest.

Hey it's nice to Wiggy back  I enjoyed arguing with you!

And Aculias, yep you did beat me on that map.  Would you give me a rematch?  For toh?  Fun don't count, I don't play to good if just for fun.

And Wiggy, Have you played a map called the Darkside?  I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.

Whats better then playing a self made map you already played, or random.
A self made map that none of us played before, shoot everything is basically even & no one knows anything about the map, or at least not yet.

Aculias, thats referred to as a "blind" map.  In that no one has seen it.  They are a lot of fun!  But it's hard to find opponents that will play them.  Most people only play those with friends they trust.  Like when you and I tried out 7 lakes.

Ironmlh made a thread about it awhile ago.  Maybe I should go resurrect it?

jiels (just realized that he should have just told Aculias this on icq )
