Choose your storyline!

Ok, ok, guys, guys!
So I was playing Jade Empire the other day (3 minutes ago), and I was thinking, hey, why not have your main characters in Homm6 make decisions that affect the rest of the game? The other half of my mind said, "It'd be too much work, stupid". But I still think its a great idea, that way, it wouldn't just be "Haven=good jerks, Inferno= bad jerks". More like, "Haven=???, Inferno=???"
That way there'd also be a whole lot more replay value in the campaign, which I dearly hope they don't kersplode this time. So watchu all think?

Sounds promising, and I know that Blizzard is doing it with SC2, so it shouldn't be that hard.

That'd be great. I had a H5 campaign planned around this concept but had to flush it down the metaphorical toilet since the lua scripts couldn't handle the idea. Something like Heroes II would be great in this regard.

I never liked having more than one ending...ok so i finish h6 on one storyline but when the sequel of the game comes and ubi decides to start h7 from a different h6 ending than the one ive played...well that sucks. I think that heroes should have improved bios & stories and that developers should focus on the evolution of heroes, based on what you decide a hero could turn good or bad or neutral and as you move on, specials skills & text is added to your hero bio, this way everything you do can write your hero story.

Well, typically, Homm games aren't particularly connected to their sequels. Well, they are, but not directly. And definitely not with the transition form Axeoth to Ashan.

Well Mass Effect 2 solves this by using a saved game from the first game and applying them to the new one. Thus all decisions made in the first game affects Mass Effect 2.

Can't see why the Heroes series can't have something similar. In fact, for a strategy game that would be rather unique.

I don't find it likely that they'll actually do it but it's a nice idea. H7 is kinda far away though...

Or rather the Dark Messiah team... which I hope means that the next game will have darker and more serious graphics and atmosphere.

YEAH! Put some realism into it! There ain't no hermit that'll just teach you something! He'll give you an apple, and you eat it, thinking that you'll gain some power from it, but it poisons you and you die!

Lol doubt it and in the end, who cares about Graphics? You know, that's what made HOMM and even HOMM3 so good. The gameplay was very good and the game didn't focus too much on graphics. Graphics isn't everything,  you know?

As for the idea, it's good. I remember HOMM2 had something like that and it was a great concept.

I'm not talking about demanding graphics as much as I'm talking about a more pleasing style.

Graphics mean a lot. I doubt I would've bought H5 if it weren't for the incredibly tasty towns. The Sylvan town still sends chills down my back, a masterpiece imo.

Oh well. Well I think graphics don't mean ****. If graphics meant so much to me, I doubt I would've got HOMM1 or HOMM2.

HA, i liked Necropolis and Inferno' better, but anyways, I think a new alignment system for the towns should be in order, and which ever alignment you pick for your town, different spells will be in the mage guild and maybe a different unit you can get, or a different hero.

Don't make me use the Teletubby-Heroes argument! Oh now you've done it!

'Kay. We replace all the creatures with Teletubbies of various sizes and colours. The abilities, skills, perks and everything else that is gameplay remains the same though.

Now... how bout that?

Heroes of Might and Magic is not dark. It's not gritty and miserable. It's occasionally serious. But the "brown is real" mentality belongs to Disciples.

I don't get where that H6 = Dark Messiah rumour popped out of. Arkane Studios don't develop for the RTS genre. Romain du Waubert is part of Ubi's MM team, not an Arkane employee. I guess someone noticed him in those developer diaries without the full picture and wrote up a crazy theory.

Er... why not?  2D cartoons definitely beats a text-based Akalabeth environment.

Hmm... in your main post you talk about not dividing everyone into "evil" and "good"... and I agree, things should be in different shades of gray instead of black and white.

However... how do you think an alignment system works with that...? Like, I choose Haven and "Evil" alignment and get special evil units? Isn't that in direct conflict with not dividing people into good and evil?

"There is no Good, no Evil... Only Decisions and Consequences"

A good quote from a good game.
