Don't forget guys that shooters need shooting frames, some need 2hex attack frames, so not anything can be replaced with any def. There are rules to follow, otherwise game crashes.

For *wog files 500-2000kb???
Hm... It's very much, I think...

"You need to replace the old creatures because of the limit. Using the wog file, for the normal user, it's impossible to select what creature to replace.
I download your wog file, i want to replace Peasant with the new creature, but the replaces creature is Angel."

If you succeed in making web page that will create *.wog files problem will be creature's portraits because they are stored in two defs.

The 32x32 and 64x64 portraits such be added along with the .wog def to a rar file. If there are any.

That's what i mean.
As i said before, i'm thinking for a php script that can handle all the user's preferences and automatically make the wog file.


For monster in battle and map, i think is OKIE, only need make app to change the name of DEF file ( we ready have the list right ? ) But the portrait is hard to make, we need extract Portrait DEF => bmp from data file, then change BMP file, after that make DEF. So on .... still can be done if DEFmaker or H3DEFtool support command line

Don't make a headache for so little. There is no game in the world where you can just download a file and change the game (unless it is an install.exe). The player who desire to play with various creatures will have to learn a few basic things about deftool (it gives names), wog to rar and vice versa, update.exe. You will not find an optimal solution for this IMO. Just store them with proper descriptions and portraits.

If someone could make a short guide on how to use deftool, I will add it in "wog install" link. It is a guide we miss ATM.

I'm returning with some news.
I managed to get all the data for the script. It will be a php script with a flat database (txt file) in wich will be stored the creatures names and defs' names. Tomorrow i'll put all the things together and i'll test the script.
In the first phase, you will select the modified creature and the original one and the script will make the wog file for you. This will be version 0.1
In the next version, i will replace the variable with an array, to make possible to add infinite (hehe) number of creatures into wog file. Also, i'm still studying the problem with the portraits.

Hi,

I've been browsing the Heroes Community for a long time and i just registered.
I really love heroes 3 and especially Wog with its possibilities. I recently started modding it myself and have this problem.

I always thought that Necropolis needs another shooter and i thought that it would be great if that was the skeleton warriors. I made a def (added the crossbow from marksmen) but i cannot make the shooting frames and so make it work. The system crashes every time the skeletons shoot. Can anyone help me?

Also, how do i change the names of the creatures or Heroes? (I really would like to call them Skeleton archers!!)

Naming them is easy. Making them shoot is impossible now. Mitabrin claims that Trith made one walker shoot but I doubt it, as adding shooting defs is not enough, you need to link to a projectile frame, add a shoot sound and write a complex script, which is required after searching  in the .exe the memory address of each shooting projectile and assign one to the new shooter. And I am almost sure Cranim.txt also has to be modified, as it holds the shooting frames speed and angles values.

Info about this issue in Russian forums, and as you can see it is quite complex. Waiting for Trith one to see.

Too bad... It would be nice to change this particular function.

It occurred to me that centaur captains can also be made to shoot (which I did) and they have the sound of the Grand elves (the Centaurs when shooting had the one of the Elves) and I thought it would be easy to make that for the skeletons as well. Anyway... thanks for replying

Could you tell me how to rename heroes and creatures?

These commands are for a single map aren't they?

Actually I meant to change a name of a hero or creature completely, for the entire game.

I am trying to replace the Conflux town with a new one, kinda like what they did in Wog with their own creatures and I really would like to change the names to match the creatures.

Then you will have to learn the ERM basics, as you need for that a general script to be placed in DATA/s.
