i see your point but what does it have to do with a discussion about what we would perhaps say if there was a designated mainstream (which there is not so far as more public at least)

it was intended to be a discussion like 99% of the threads in forums so if discussions are a waste of time how could "aliens with capability and desire to intercept our media and satellite broadcasts" know what we have an interest in to begin with?

Who says they are "aliens"?
Who says they rely on what so many feel to be our "satellites and data bases"?

There are many more propositions involved beyond these few basic but:

Answer = Pretty much people who have no clue but jump to conclusion anyways.

Why is there some argument that they can generally watch our TV, Movies, and news, and learn more about us than they would with direct interaction?
Who says they have some computer mind &/or desire to sit through some Wikipedia and dictionary like database and piece stuff together from our history and current situation of many cultures and humanity as a whole? /They may or may not but to directly assume they do and would is not my style and I have no reason to defend myself in this instance when I am dealing with people who tell me I do not see their point, when their point, is not  besides the point but in no relation at all outside of the fantasy world of faith in what aliens are and that the human definition and cultural understanding of the word alien is an accurate description.

It may or may not be but that is a pretty solid claim considering what we have known.

I'd be willing to argue the baby rape argument.

In Africa it is a common belief that deflowering a virgin can cure AIDS. Baby rapings are not that rare either. Some sociologists believe that these two go hand in hand.
I would love to see you could specify this to those countries where this is REALLY a common belief. Africa has more countries than Europe, and they are so different to each other.
I can tell you for sure this is no common belief in any modern northern african state like Tunesia, Marocco or Egypt (and others...), neither in countries like Cameroon, Ivory Coast or Nigeria (middle of africa), and for sure not in South Africa or Namibia (southern part of Africa...).

I'd be willing to argue the baby rape argument.

In Africa it is a common belief that deflowering a virgin can cure AIDS. Baby rapings are not that rare either. Some sociologists believe that these two go hand in hand.

One might believe raping a baby to be the right thing to do since it's the cure for AIDS, unless the baby has already been used once. Continue treatment with regular doses of baby rape, twice a day: Once in the morning, once in the evening.

So if my heart were failing it would be moral for me to kill you to harvest your heart?

And if you thought that raping a baby would cure you of cancer it would be moral for you to rape a baby?

I disagree that raping someone is moral if you think it will cure a disease you have.

@Celfious

Well, I'm sorry if my answer doesn't fit into your view of the world, but maybe you should ask yourself this:

What would the Central Africans or Indians have said (or did say), if asked your question?

So my question to you is this:
why would we say anything else to some equal or greater good as a careful "hello?"
You might add: if you come in peace, welcome, if not, piss off.

And if you want it on a silver plate: isn't it the VISITOR who should say something?

I think Celfious is saying that we have a pretty negative "score" perception-wise from the outside/aliens, so we should come up with a speech to them to tell them maybe that they shouldn't judge a book by it's majority of pages only, or I dunno.

how could they like how could we judge a book by the cover of the media

even we look to eachother mostly and say we cant trust TV and the news, and so much conflict arises from it from area to area, we are a natural people yet we can hardly even begin to look to eachother as if we are brothers

I bet most of us in the mid and eastern sides of the world can even trace who we are or where we are from beyond 3 generations

Yet I am english irish, polish, and german.. because it makes a difference and thats where I can trace my info to

3 generations

scientology, I doubt it, but, we look to the recent to judge the past

We can change and I'd even argue that we have been changing all the time.

Isn't there some moral in the kid book of rules that people will like you just the way you are? And that you shouldn't need to change yourself for other people?

So Logically, the aliens would like us as Baby rapists, money murderers, and soul sellers?

And logically wouldn't changing who you are and what you do be wrong to yourself?

Honestly, morals have such easy ways of killing each other that we shouldn't bother asking the question of right and wrong, we will just get a headache.

Isn't it the message we want to send out to aliens?

I wouldn't want to meet the aliens that would arrive in response to that message.

If humanity wants help they should send them all that is negative about us, just to show how much we need alien baby sitters.

Quote:
Them aliens would learn everything there is to learn about us by digesting the satellite TV broadcasts they could doubtlessly receive - so why bother with a message?

Would they get accurate information about our day to day life from a telenovela(soap opera)? Would lexxan please insert his line here:_ _____ ___!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, for a change, lets assume Humanity were perfect in every way.

No crime, No poverty, No greed, No Baby rape.

What Positive pictures would you send them then? Would you send them pictures of Miami beach? Would you send them Screenshots from Halo reach? Would you send them the cut up body of a leach? Or perhaps the wonders of bleach?

Edit/P.s.: Dont be an ass and start debating on how that would require us to become comunist, beaurocrats and esentialy throw away what makes us human.

do yall think they would listen to what is general on satellites or enter some communication with the REAL people? Not politicians who play major roles in what happens to the other 99.9%, but real people

What are satellites good for? if some alien had desire to listen to us through hacking or intercepting satellite codes, how much of YOU can they know about it? all they can really tell from my perspective is what the majority sees

dont believe what you read, yet some aliens should and would judge us by this?

What's this fall-on-your-knees-and-pray attitude towards the aliens?
As I said, we do this for thousands of years, falling on our knees and pray to some gods or another, beg for mercy, forgiveness and understanding...

Isn't it the hell time we stood up and ACCEPT what we are, live with it and act accordingly instead of trying to excuse our history in the face of supposedly "higher", "morally superior" or just greater beings?

I mean, we - humans - were not born with a silver spoon in mouth, and survival was a tough thing in the beginning and in some respects is still now. Our life span isn't that long compared, for example, with a tree, and we have to put up with death, sickness, suffering, starving, disasters and a lot more crap. Sure, our past is full of violence and war, but look at nature - violence is definitely a part of it.

In my opinion there is nothing to be ashamed of. That's true for TV as well. If people wouldn't like it the way it is, it was different, and, Celfious, whether you like it or not, studying the TV program of the world for a week or so would teach any visitor everything about us that is to know about us AS A SPECIES (and I trust, the aliens would know, if they were oh so great, that a species as a whole can be a pain, but individuals may still be okay).
The question is, in any case, what we ARE, not what we would like to be IF ONLY...

I would not want to have any part in an excuse message: "Please help us insignificant sinners find the right way, o superior beings, and don't take anything see you see or read too literally; it's not that we lack good intentions, it's just that the mind is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Apart from that, reverse the situation: if we humans would visit another planet as "superior beings", would we trust and official message to us? Of course not. We would try and build our own opinion, look behind the scenes, try to find the hidden darkness, the danger that might lurk, in short form a picture on our own.

Every being worth being called superior would doubtlessly do the same. As a species we make enough statements each second, and either it's ok, or it's not.
If not, the aliens will maybe decide to exterminate us, but, hey, even our supposed creator did that already, so what?

Aliens. Meh.

I sort of agree with JJ in general. Why do people so desperately want to believe the aliens are better, wiser, less self-destructive? Even if they exist. I refuse to bow before any sort of "superior extraterrestrial being" and beg for help. I'd rather tell them to go snow themselves, we don't want them here so good riddance.

I'm also surprised that people claiming to be atheists or realists need desperately some sort of fairy tale to believe in, so they turn to 2012, aliens, illuminati, sea monsters or other weird things.

What's with your realism, guys? Is it gone?

In case you havent noticed... we are ASSUMING that the aliens are greater than us.

Your just being asses right now and veering off topic intentionally.
Go and create your own debate thread if you want to keep fighting about it.
----

back to the question at hand

say if some "aliens" had the ability to grant us with a non risk energy source for our wire connections

Energy how? life energy? Energy to fix global warming by not causing CO2?

If so, our cars dont run on alien fuel so it would be a slow transition at best.

----

as to my question...

I would send them pictures of family, environment, and xxxual intercourse(Well they would at least know how we reproduce ).
