There is no such def GAVA, where you found it? And what you edited in txt files? You don't need them in lod, but only in DATA. You can't add a new artefact, but only replace one. There are chances that your WoG is corrupted now and need reinstall.

You have the artifact graphics on the map - what about the graphic in the equipment? After you pick up an artifact this one is shown so maybe that's the reason for the crash. That is - if it's not for some lack of changes in the exe.

Also try editing ZOBJCTS.TXT and ZAOBJTS.TXT.

New artefacts are not supported ATM. There is a script which adds 3200 empty slots (in russian) but could never get it working. They neither.

@AcidDragon, I'll try that (I mean the text files I already got the picture inside the ARTIFACT.DEF), if it doesn't work, I'll believe Salamandre.

Actually I'd believe him too ;P. I know I tried to add an artifact some time ago, but - whatever the reason - I failed. So my guess is that some changes have to be made in the exe. Then again I just could have missed sth.

I edited the text files and tested again. This time I made a map, where the hero already has the artifact.
When I look at the artifact, it is a picture of a Spell Book?, it seems that the problem IS in the picture. When I click the artifact, the game crashes..

Stop torturing yourself. There is no link in the exe  between your 171 artefact and the frame in Artifact.def.. It must be coded in exe, how the game knows that the pcx you added at the end of the list is linked to GAVA.def, which is a map object?!

If it was so easy, we would have zillions of new artefacts by now.

All the pictures inside the def were bmps. I extracted them and added my picture at the end, then I made the def again. They were bmps.

You are right, only the interface pictures are shown as pcx, I just looked again. Others have a different compression.

It's a completely new artifacts, not replacement of blank ones =P

Here a DLL for ERA that allow create above four thousand arifacts.

I dont't want now to write full manual, but the main:
- add new sprites to artifacts.def
- add new descriptions in artraits and artevents
- write number of described in txt artifacts into data/emerald.cfg (if you write more than necessary - game willn't start. if the config isn't valid - will be loaded 170 strings)
- if you want to bind spell or attack/defence/.. bonus to artifact - there is some functions in the source code (exports to ERM don't made yet)
- I don't test compatibility with all ERM commands. UN:A#1/#2/$ works with them. Others - don't know.
- of course, it doesn't work with 358 or TE. Only ERA.
