bm
I don't think people should call it bm, because people might think it means bowel movement.
That's why I'm making a map called Battle for Wood & Ore so people call it bo. But I REALLY am making a map called that. I'm really slow at making maps so I'll probably have to translate it for Heroes 4, when it comes out. There are so many incredibly new and unique features that I used in my map. It's kind of like Outer Limits and Seven Lakes combined except that none of the castles start with forts. It might sound bad, but it really does work. I'm glad that so many other people love these 2 maps, so hopefully BO will be good.
BFH, Outer Limits, and 7 Lakes rule!!!
I do think a lot of people really like these 3 maps, but they aren't called popular, because the majority of players just play the maps that they think are the safest and easiest ones to play. Hourglass, W vrs E (now N vs S), I don't think that most people like the popular maps the most. They are simply the maps that everyone knows making those played more often. Then you tons of newbies coming up in the ranks by repeatedly playing one map, which is a "popular" map. This creates many people who refuse to play any other map besides hg,dw,etc.

hg, dw
no offense to hg and dw. Those are good maps, but not my favorite maps. They are my favorite map to use as examples.
