I get my news from "All of the above", which is not listed.

If that was an option 99% of poll participants would have chosen it thus defeating the purpose of the poll.

It is fairly clear that Internet and TV are the primary sources of news.  I can't think of any paper newspapers that don't have an online version as well.

Now the sub point I was trying to make is that people will choose a tv station or internet web site based on their world view because news sources from a different world view will not have articles/stories that interest them.  Resources aren't infinite so media has to choose what to report.

Now a consequence that is visible often in the OSM is that different sources hold different weight for different people and so it is impossible to agree.

Well it may waste electricity but I suppose you're using the computer for something also at that time (e.g: listening to music) or would have browsed anyway. Not to mention that electricity can be "green".

I'm still waiting for free energy (solar panels + batteries during the night) though I don't think it's going to become feasible anytime soon

("free" energy in the sense that I don't have to pay, not in the physical sense)

I agree to an extent. But if a source becomes too biased even those who share the viewpoints of the news source will begin to turn to other places for their news.

This is one reason why many liberal news papers and liberal TV network news broadcasts are losing viewership and FOX is gaining viewership. TOX does has a conservative slant sometimes but it is not as bad as the liberal bias in the other networks.

Ok so Fox has gained viewership...how do you identify the reason?  What are possible reasons?

Internet mostly. I visit Aftonbladet.se every day. They are so funny and I would love to work there ("THE DEATH-PLANED SHOCK-CRASHED, THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTICLE OF THE DAY *SARCMARK*").

Also I some times watch the news on the television. I love the Channel 4 news because the opening music is so cool. ^^

My main source of news is the Internet, but I also watch the news on TV and read the occasional newspaper.

Usually I prefer news about technology, entertainment, travel and the bizarre stuff.

If I could, I'd watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report more often.  It's hard to face the news without a little humor thrown in to cheer me up.  Interestingly, I never cared about the news until I started watching stand-up comedy.

I don't pay much attention to the news because it so highly distorts reality. The news is basically a variation of Chicken Little running around telling everyone "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!". It kind of makes you feel like crap being constantly reminded that the world is coming to an end.

I've never been big on TV news. Except when I was younger when the TV told me how many people were killed in Vietnam that day....followed by how many people got arrested that day because they had some crazy idea that dead people were probably better off being alive rather than being dead....followed by someone explaining why they were better off dead than alive.

It was all so very confusing not knowing if people were better off dead or alive. (*whispers* There was a part of me that thought they were better off alive, but I wouldn't want to be accused of being unpatriotic.)

Through much of my adult life I read the paper. That way at least I could pick which method of world annihilation I wanted to read about that day. And if I really wanted to get wild and crazy I could skip the news altogether and walk around with a manic smile on my face, happy in my mistaken belief that the world isn't coming to an end, at least not that day.

But after hearing that the world was coming to an end about 40,000 times (and as near as I could tell it hadn't happened yet) I started questioning if the news might be wrong. So I thought it might be time to read the fine print. So after searching the fine print quite thoroughly I found a line that read "Condensed news, please dilute to reflect reality."

Well the first thing that came to mind was frozen orange juice that you mix with 3 parts water per one part condensed orange juice. But diluting the news in a 3:1 ratio still didn't sound right unless the street I lived on was very atypical. After all, I'm pretty sure there weren't 9 people on my street killed in car wrecks today. Nor were there 3 murders, 7 wife beatings, 4 drug arrests, a mother who cooked her baby in a microwave oven, 2 priests having sex with 7 year old choir boys, one person selling LSD *AND* having sex with an 11 year old girl, and (so the news isn't accused of being negative) 1 fireman who rescued the kitty who got stuck in the drain pipe. Ahhhhh, it's such a cute kitty.

Something just didn't seem right. So back to searching the fine print I went. Hmmm, what's this? Coverage area of local news: Montgomery, Greene, Clark, Prebble and Darke counties. Um wait, isn't that like a million people or something? So does that mean I need to dilute the news like a 1,000,000:1 instead of 3:1? So there's only a one in a million chance of the world coming to an end today?

*wipes his brow and gives a sigh of relief*

Nope, don't pay attention to the news any more. If something important happens I'll hear about it. I don't see any purpose in being bombarded with Chicken Little screaming "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" every day, when by definition the news is the exception, not the rule.

Ok so "the news" is negative.  In general I'm agreeing but often there are useful things in the newspaper like arts and movie reviews.  For me anyway.

How are you going to hear about something important? Word of mouth?
