The fine line of tax and socity?

Splitting out from the other topic, onto the issue:

You have powerful labour unions and insanely high taxes. The only reason you're so rich is because of your natural resources.

Since when did this equal a bad country?
We pay a bit of taxes, we also get quite a lot back from it. We are on a medium level of taxes, there exists places with higher taxes. At the moment we are taxed over a percent or 2 more than what is used, the result is that the cash pile the government for for budgets is getting bigger.
And the labour union is a tad strong, but not strong enough to be corrupt snows. The corporation unions are equally strong.
And we would have been a tad poorer than Sweden and Denmark if it was not for the oil, AND we stopped using it some years ago. Now its only piling up cash, which needs to be used..... And last time I checked: Denmark and Sweden was not bad off.

What makes your countries system that is falling apart better(mvassiles), and why is my country bad? Do you actually have a proper argument?

Don't forget that also, if your economy ever collapses, you can always just take your axes and raid England.

It's better to have low taxes in the first place, as government is inherently inefficient. You can spend (or save) your own money. You don't need the government to do it for you.

You didn't actually make a point.  Are you suggesting that private companies could do a better job than the government?

My point is that public goods and private goods are different. Defence, roads, education, protection against epidemics - those are public goods. Most other things are private goods. The government can have a role in producing public goods, but should not interfere with private goods.

Seriously, learn economics.

You made the connection here between lowering government taxes and personal spending.  If you lower taxes that cuts back on public goods. For example locally the school budget shrunk so special education services were cut.

At this point based on what you wrote you seemed to be saying that you could spend (or not spend) money on special education.  Write what you mean.

And why let those filthy corporations do it? What makes it a better or worse option?
I am in a country for the equals, where people pay their taxes, where people earn money, where money flows, where there is socialism and salted herring.

The US is a sinking ship filled with many wrongs. And you compare it to perfection(of course I am not implying perfection itself, but rather something that works)?
You got a media that needs to be boot stumped down and normalized, you got an large fanatic population which the news don't cover their terrorist acts, you got a decay. You got a government that is announcing whatever they do as "The victory", and you got a school system that needs major renovation before its capable of doing more. And you do a variable attempt on regulating the free marked, which fails horribly.

PR:
Obviously, even spending on public goods shouldn't be excessive. Just because they produce positive externalities doesn't mean those externalities are infinite, right? There should be a certain level of spending on public goods, yes. But the government should not be spending any money on private goods (other than what's needed to make the public goods work, of course).

del_diablo:

What's so "filthy" about them? It's a better option because the private sector is inherently more efficient than the public sector. When an individual economic agent (such as a person or a company) uses money, they use it in a way that benefits them the most. When the government spends money, it tries to gauge how to best benefit people (and that's in the best case). So it's inherently worse.

Of course, it's terrible. But we can bounce back. And even now we're still better than any other country in the world.

And what is the option?
A ravaged marked where we got massive amounts of poor people who never stood a chance at getting back into the middle class?
Having a absurdly big lower class?
Having companies which does not do anything properly?
And why is the private sector "better", because they use cheap stuff that breaks instead of something that actually works? When you get over it, the effective of a public healthcare equals the private one in any society on different sets.

I want to believe in the "free marked", but its a dratted fact that the free marked may not be free. So its a dead glorified dead dream.
Give up and open your eyes, how the hell can a decaying piece of snow be better than the rest of the world?

USA is the best country in the world? ok that is your opinion. If i try to say something against it I guess I will be one of those "america bashers" so I'll just save my breath. I just wonder why that enforced patriotism works so well in US.
