New RTMG 1.5.5 : Small Review
The new RTMG (Random template map generator) has just been published by Simonak yesterday.
http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=31008
Me and a couple of friends stopped our WoG Heroes III games in progress to test it.
We could have post this review in the modder's section but we think it belongs in the main section.
Why ? Because so far RTMG 1.5.5 doesn't feel just like a mod or a RMG, it's actually more like a new Expansion to Heroes V
The review was made with the NCF megapack, we haven't even tried the extra new dwellings yet.
The pros :
- Randoms maps now can includes more than 30 new buildings. Amazing.
Exploring water on island maps is not boring anymore, and on lands it adds tons of content.
- Using the NCF pack, you also now have hundreds of new creatures on the maps, some of them being small pieces of art, thanks to their creators.
- The numerous options when creating a map are very clever : you can change everything according to your taste, even the gameplay.
- As far as we tested it, the new version seems to be bug free, apart from a couple of graphic glitchs on some minor structures ( ex: lake of scarlet swan )
- The RTMG restore your last settings at every launch, excellent to fine tune your options
The cons :
- The RTMG might be a bit difficult to install the first time, specially if you add the NCF pack and the Dwellings.
A clear installation guide would be welcome.
Advice
Create and test a few maps until you find the right balance and settings to your personal tastes
Conclusion:
This mod really make us feel like playing a new expansion to Heroes V. It's a really powerful tool that also add tons of content.
This is probably the closest to Heroes III Wake of the gods that Heroes V will ever have.
Simonak, congratz for this awesome add-on, Wishing Ubisoft would hire you to work on the Heroes VI RMG

This sounds pretty good, I bet many heroes players will enjoy it
A few questions.
Does it makes sure that enemy towns are far?
Is it possible to add mixed stacks?
Do mines get duplicated on occasion in someone's starting area?
What about neutral towns?
I checked the masterpost and the interface looks well designed, easy to understand and gives a lot of freedom.

Does it makes sure that enemy towns are far?
yes, just like the original ToE RMG
Is it possible to add mixed stacks?
yes, including some mixed with NCF creatures
Do mines get duplicated on occasion in someone's starting area?
yes. you can also add more diversity to abandonned mines
What about neutral towns?
Yes you have neutral towns, you can even choose their average defense strength (with or without towers)
I checked the masterpost and the interface looks well designed, easy to understand and gives a lot of freedom.
Yup once you get used to it, it's quite straightforward and easy to use

Ah but the tote RMG was crap, heard too many complaints about towns being close and even saw some of those cases myself.

I played tons of random maps using Tote RMG, and never seen this problem.
Every game i played, the enemy towns were widely seperated inside their own starting zones, itself guarded by powerful stacks.
Maybe you played very small maps ?

I prefer to use silpions template editor, then you can easily design all the zones yourself. If there are multiple zones between the towns it is guaranteed, they are not so close. I haven't tested yet if the new RTMG can refill such custom templates.
