lol, wesley, who is talking about the idea of having them here? look at their graphics. especially the mantis seems to be taken right out of a biology textbook. it's not a mythological creature as far as i know, although they could at least have made it look mythological. well, it's nice that it doesn't have charles darwin riding it, though.

dragon: little human, beware, i am gonna burn your beard.
darwin: lmao, you know, i can prove that you don't even exist.
dragon: arrghhh! *vanishes in a puff of logic*

Look at this.

This is very old. Longer then the mantis is in the game.
Isn't it very odd that the mantis got into the game later???

AGAIN REPLY!!!!!!! 2 times

No, our game is not based on Tolkien’s stories. We have come up with our own storylines. I’ll see what they think of the Mantis Dragon.

Hello it's wesley again...

This time I have a question...

Is it true that your game is based on Tolkiens Storys?

Everybody keep on saying that.......

http://www.chatpoint.com/chat/photoalbums/328394_1.jpg

This is a Mantis Dragon.. I think you really should at this creature to the game!!!

It would be perfect!!!

And Don't put in hobbits they aren't that cool....

anything "fantasy" is a spawn of a work by JRR Tolkien. He pioneered the concept from which so many forms of entertainment are drawn from.

WHAHAHAHAHA~!!!

That's noncense!

NO TOLKIEN FOR EVERY CREATURE!
He didn't made up anything!
Minotaur/medusa/ even fairy and unicorn aren't from him!
only halfling and trolls and orcs(but this are called razormanes) Those are pig like orcs(no tolkien eather!)

Tolkien is the man of elves/hobbits and stupid dwarves.
Other persons made up the COOL drow elves the cool mountain dwarves and the gobbits.
Tolkien only invited sweet/good creatures. No bad creatures at all!

Why dont you read his books before making stupid comments. Medusas and Minotaurs are creatures from greek mythology. Tolkien did have evil creatures in his books and was the first fantasy author. Oh and I never said he created every mythical creature jackass I just said the "whole fantasy realm" comes from his imagination.

No books for me.

He was a good writher. I saw his movie.
But you tossers keep on telling he created everything! That's not true! We live in 2002 man! There would have been somebody like him that would do the same anyway.
And his creatures suck! Maybe he invited stupid languages and stuff. but he didn't made any new creatures.
(the old elves were cooler! Then tolkien came... and turned them to wimps!)

And ps tolkien is death anyway.
Get over it!
The other people made fantasy like there is today.
Not back into 1979 or something. When he died.
I always thought the COOL fantasy started in 1995 anyway.

I'm happy for that.

I'm happy that I haven't read his books.
Because Now the movies are cooler to see! Elswere you would know the whole movie from the start to the end.
PS I heard that the spider is in part 2!(The spider is the coolest creature tolkien came up with.)

Wesley, you clearly don't know pretty much anything from literature, if you compare the movie as "his movie" to the book and based on that talk about his writing abilities. There is so much missing from the movie. I mean a LOT. Still, the movie is fantastic, congratulations to Mr. Jackson. Yes, I think it is true that you can get more out of the movie if you see them before reading the books or after a long period of time has passed since reading them (that was my case).
"Cool fantasy started in 1995 anyway." - That's like insulting the whole fantasy genre for crying out loud. You should really read the books first. Personally, I think "Hobbit - or there and back again" is even better than the trilogy itself. It gives a lot of background story about the tale of the one ring. It is also shorter, so people having second thoughts about reading the long epic could first test themselves with that book.

Books don't change one way or another due to the author's death. Also, do have some respect for the deceased, please.

lol, drow elves were in silmarillion. well, not exactly written by jrr tolkien, but by his son, based on jrr-s notes.

no, i am not saying that all fantasy is a rip-off of tolkien, just like i am not saying that all computer games are rip-offs of the first popular computer game.

and imho it's not even the creatures, because most of them already existed in mythology, but about the story. well, maybe the idea to use the creatures to create some mythology like thing.

well, yeah, another useless post.

wooooooooooooooooooooooooow that would be cool!!!! maybe a F-16 airplain!!! wow... this would just be soo cool... you could fly in your plain over the map and then you get to bomb the enemies castle, killing every unit inside!!! wouldn't this add an extra dimension to the gameplay? I think so! huray for vladeposposcop for giving me this idea!!!

And further yet, screenshots don't do the game justice. We'd have to see them animated first.

I disagree. Screenshots DO do the game justice unless they are of such terrible quality that you can't even make out anything. But from the screenshots I've seen, they are of excellent quality. The final product will not look drastically different just because it's animated. The shot already captures what the game will look like. An ugly unit that can move and attack is still an ugly unit. (Note: I'm not complaining about any ugly units myself). They are not going to change in appearance (face, clothing, etc..) just by being animated.

About the siege, I too think those walls are a bit short. But perhaps if they were doubled in height they would obstruct more of your view of whoever is behind them because of this isometric perspective. I especially like how some units can be stationed on top of towers.. I wonder how they will be attacked, or whether they can attack back from their position..

I don't really mind the design of any of the units except the Dragon Golem (which I hope has been redesigned). Everything else is fine by me.

The discussion about Tolkien is very interesting...and I'd love to see it continued up in the Tavern (hint, hint)

Taking off the Moderator's hat for a second, the seige shots remind me of 'castle' battles I've fought in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism ..a medieval re-creation group I've belonged to for the last couple of decades), "Archer's Towers" and all. I wonder if some of the same tactics will apply?
