Local Network gaming problems

Hello,

I am trying to play a Heroes V: Tote game with my cousin.

We are totally unable to even join each other's game when we manage to see it. For instance, when we see each other's game sometimes it will flash slowly, sometimes we manage to try to join and we will get timed out or it will say that the other person has closed the game (I forgot the exact term). We have tried to play just like that (we are in the same network afterall), we have tried to play over Hamachi, we have tried to play over ubi.com and we all got pretty much the same results. I am getting really frustrated because I bought the game specially because I wanted to enjoy simultaneous turns rather than waiting in hot seat.

What could the problem be ? Can 2 game instances be run on the same IP and play together ?

We both have a legal install from Steam, we are right next to each other. Our save file is empty, our map folder is empty(meaning we have only the game's crappy maps), we have no mods. Each on our side we can join the game, we can play a single player game. We both have the latest patch, 3.1.
I have played over ubi.com, over local network using Hamachi and had no problems. We are both running Windows 7 if that matters.

Thanks for reading this and thanks in advance for the help you will provide, I am getting very frustrated over this.

Edit: I have read the "Multiplayer QuickStart Guide&Troubleshooting" but haven't found anything to guide me through this problem.

It can be done because I have done it on a physical local network.  You've already cleared up the maps and mods which the usual thing to check.

The only unusual thing I see in your description is that it is the steam version.  The game files should be the same however.  How do you know it is version 3.1?

I know it the version 3.1 because Steam automatically downloads it and because it shows in the game when I log in.

I have never done mods and my map folder has been emptied to make sure it wasn't causing the problem.

Maybe a firewall issue? Have you made H5 and hamachi an exception from windows or which other firewalls you may have?

I can only speak for hamachi but I know it can be a little erratic. When it kicks me out I create again and again, it'll work Or some people are easier to join games than have others join them. Did you make sure you both have same unupdated hamachi version?

Another error I get is: Timeout may be no ore free slots available in the game. Error code 0.18.0

While that happens, in the host's room, I see the other playing joining and leaving.

Yes we both have the same version of Hamachi. But since we are on the same network, we shouldn't even need it, right ?

That's a random bug, sometimes it's annoying. Unless something else is blocking you it should eventually work.

I have tried countless times, I've actually been on this problem for more than 2 hours. I can't seem to pin point the problem and I feel I need a punching bag.

Edit: the problem about that random bug is that it does happen randomly along with many other problems.

Here are all the errors I get:

The host has canceled the game.

No message, I enter the room just fine and then it leaves

Timeout may be no ore free slots available in the game. Error code 0.18.0

Game showing and dissapearing and showing and dissapearing

On one computer, it shows Entering the game for a long time while on the other it already says that I joined and left the game. And then it gives me the timeout error or it says the host has cancelled the game.

I think that sums them all up.

What if you both try with just the same fan map in the maps folder and try a game on that map?

They are all the same side of the coin. The only one I have not seen is the game appear and disappear, check your friend's name on hamachi. If the dot is flashing green you should normally have no problem, if it's green and blinking it is connecting(or frozen while trying to connect), if blue there is limited connectivity and yellow there is zero connectivity. But in the last one it shouldn't even appear..

I assume that when u say fan map, u mean a map designed by fans. That was the original plan and no I have just tried it again and I get one of the errors from my previous post.

OOh 1 other thing I forgot, if using Hamachi I try to ping him, my requests time out and his requests work just fine.

Other than that, on both computers the light is a solid green next to other name.

Here is an update. Disabling the antivirus (Avast) helped. Now it is possible to get into the room, to choose a town, even to start the game. Once the game is started, it says each player is disconnected.

At least that worked at the begining, now it doesn't seem to work anymore...

I've experienced this a few times with some players.
You might wanna try the alternative Gameranger, it worked for me with those i had a timeout (0.18.0 error) with.

Hei I have the same problem. Recently I installed a codec ffdshow and I set up some changes, but it wouldn t let me enter tunngle anymore. Now I uninstalled it and uninstalled tunngle, then reinstalled tunngle. And now I can't play with players because error code 0.18.0 appears. I don't know if it will appear with all players, but it is frustrating. Yesterday I could play with anyone and now I don t know
