This may be out of your price range but SSD (solid-state drives) make a lot of sense in a laptop setting.

Let's get all that info to this page!
Quote:
OKAY OKAY... I just had a BRAIN FADE!!  Check this out... ONe of my Previous contenders.. is option #1

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Option #1

HP Pavilion DV7T 17.3" NOTEBOOK PC (INTEL CORE 2 DUO P8700 2.53GHz
4GB RAM
500GB 7200rpm DUAL HDD
17.3" WXGA HIGH-DEFINITION 1600x900 LCD
Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW
1GB ATI Radeon HD4650
Windows 7...64bit

Total Price $775.00 - Refurbished - 90 Day Warrenty
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Option #2

ASUS Brand (INTEL CORE 2 DUO P8700 2.53GHz processor)
6GB DDR2 memory
Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support
17.3" LED-backlit LCD high-definition plus widescreen display
With 1600 x 900 resolution
500GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm) 1 E-SATA connection
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M graphics-Features 1GB GDDR3 video memory
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit

Total $1,065 -Brand New - 1 Year Warrenty!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------

So these are Virtually Identical.. except for the Memory... and the video card.. which I have found or been told are pretty much about the same thing and will perform the same.. So there is $300 difference in price..( actually $362 since I will get $62 BING cash back.. so even if I spend $150 to make it 6GB Ram I still am couple hundred bucks cheaper..  Seems obvious which one!>!>!>! UNLESS I AM missing something.. feel free to point it out.. I am brain numb after all the stuff I been researching.

Any way, first thing I notice is the warranty. 1 year of warranty could prove to save a lot more than $300. Also the drive speed. 7200rpm will produce a lot of heat (faster spinning=more speed, more heat), and won't make that much of a difference over 5400rpm, since nr 2 have an extra two gigs of memory. And besides, nVIDIA is more popular among the common user

And the brands often do a lot of difference, mostly in price and the time it takes for the comp to brake down. HP? I'm not sure. There's tonnes of dead ones here, but that might be because HP is so popular. ASUS? ASUS, nothing remarkable (don't know anything about their support though). Nothing bad.

And lets bring up an lder subject? Toshiba! They actually work great, and usually doesn't brake for a longer times than most other brands. How ever, if it brakes, their warranty system suck, and support isn't that good either.

Warranty of 1 year is ridiculous. In Europe you get full 2 years and 1 year on refurbished rigs.

A refurbished rig with a 90-days warranty is a laugh for those prices.

Yes, you are missing something.  Refurbished usually is like russian roulette.  Normally it will be fine, but there is that chance that it might last only 91 days..but still 1 year warrenty for new is not so hot either.  Price wise Refurbished will always be cheaper then new, but new will always be a bit more reliable.  So..your call.  I would look for one with at least a 2 year warrenty however. Including a 'drop and break' Warrenty.

That's not entirely true. Most laptops have short warranty, and most of them have one year. A long warranty is two years for a laptop. For stationary computers it's a completely different story.

Can someone look up the performance comparison between these 2?

NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M   (32 Processing Cores @ 20x)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M (112 Processing Cores @ 60x)

**ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4650** And where would this one fall? Below between?

I realize that the 260M is top of the line.. But I just stumbled onto an interesting laptop that has few other kewl features..

It has 18 Inch screen.. Blueray player  Same HarDDrive.. Same Memory.. and Same P8700 Processor.. And 1 Gig dedicated Video memory.. except the Nvidia Card is GT 130M ... Just curious if someone could compare them and give me some idea... if I would really notice the difference?

And dont want to sound even pickier.. but if you do post a comment or opinion about it.. could you give more detail then yes or no.. and your basis for your opinion.. I realize some people really want the latest greastest stuff regardless.. But I am not interested in flashy newness if the performance differences are gonna be nominal.

Well I think I have been over thinking this..

I spoke with an Nvidia Tech.. and during our conversation he used an analogy that brought the whole picture into perspective.

I made the comment to him that I just didnt want Overkill.. That I didnt want to be sacrificing some other features to make sure I got this 260M KickA$$ card and only really ever use 60% of its abilities.

And thats when he said. " Yea I agree nothing more frustrating then owning a Ferrari that goes 150 MPH and living and driving in an area with max speed limit of 55mph..  "

So essentially that makes perfect sense. So think would serve me better to have the fancier 18 inch monitor the BlueRay player etc.. and Have a Car(graphicscard) that will do 80Mph...  And if I happen to in the future want to travel on a faster road.. my Car will go faster then the speed limit.. may not run as fast as some of the Top notch cars.. but will for sure get me where I wanna go.

I made up quickly a relevant story for this thread and its owner

A young one falls inlove for the first time. He thinks he found the most beautiful girl in the world, the one for him. And above all else she was available.
The problem was distance.
She lives like, let's say, 5000 miles far from him. But love is strong.
HE wasn't sure she will accept him and embrace his love for eternity without having an ace in the pocket so he decided to make something huge to impress her.
The choice was to spend any nickels on the a big diamond. He suddenly found himself broke but very happy and full of high hopes. Though, he realized that he has left no money for transportation, but love was strong.
... and he started the long journey ....walking. And he kept walking, walking, feeding himself with love only. After 2 years, he finally reached the destination, tired but happy. He knocks at her door (and her name wasn't Alice). Door is opening but instead of the girl of his dreams , a man with 1 year child appear. Seeing the traveler stunned, the man realized that not him was the person he was looking for. "My wife is not at home right now, but if I can help you, just let me know". Man dropped the diamand along to his jaw , but he  gathered all the strength left inside him and asked: "when did you marry her?" The man answers : "almost 2 years ago."
with last breath, the wanderer whispered "OMG, I'm JINXED!", suffered a heart attack and died.

What we can understand from this?
Dilema of this post: IS it better to wait, move slowly, waste time talking to yourself, live in a dream and die virgin, or try to speed things up, hoping to get/understand something from this life?

All persons from the story are pure fiction

I completely disagree with teacher and his "analogies". Patience is a virtue. In that story, instead of walking, if the man waited, he would have probably found someone better than her anyway -- if she so eagerly left go of him, she wasn't worth it from the beginning as much as he thought.

Indeed Death, your thoughts are exactly correct... I agree with your assesment of Teachers little silly story... Good things come to those who wait...

Well I think one thing that we learned which isnt something to knew.. is that as usual Teachers Teachings make him sound sillier and sillier, and after reading his words, I feel embarrassed for him... it only brings one vision to mind....

To put it better, instead of calling it "waiting", call it "calculating your best opportunities". Wait too much, and they will pass by, wait too little, and you'll complain later on. The thing is not "waiting for stuff to happen by itself", it's "wait for finding the best outcome" instead of rushing like a kid who just got some money to spend.
