Hero of Light mod v0.1

This is a new mod I put together.

First of all I would like to state that most of the credits go to the original WOG TEAM and all those who made the DEFS (it’s THEIR works and THEY deserve all the credit for them) and all of Heroes Community (especially the users Salamander and Gnollking for their help with the DEFS and the ERM syntaxes).

Second of all I want to make clear that it is only a mod I made (being the way I play HEROES WOG nowadays) and If someone doesn’t like it…well….I just couldn’t care less. I hope that there will be no ill judgment since it’s optional and not obligatory.  I thought I’d just post it and If you like it give it a try, If else simply don’t download it or even delete the post If you see fitting.

Now to talk about changes:

->   Each town gains a third upgrade for ONE creature with its own abilities (The upgrades are from various levels from one to seven)

->   More than 10 changed creatures (some just their image, some their stats as well) fully animated (in combat and on the map)

->   8 new artifact combinations (mostly the new WOG artifacts which were too powerful are now combination artifacts)

->   A newer version of Conflux town: New Heroes, a little tweaking on the creatures (On the heroes I used some of the Halfling mod, special thanks to these guys)

->   More than 40 new hero’s specialties. Most of them are some secondary skills and spells that weren’t a specialty at all in Heroes Complete or even WOG.

All these changes mean that some WOG options should be enabled at all times and some disabled as well. I would recommend reading the README file first before deciding to proceed with an installation.

If you like to proceed and give it a try you have two options: If you don’t have much experience with Resedit 2 and ERM you want this link:

http://www.4shared.com/file/233323263/6742399a/Hero_of_Lightmodv10part1.html
http://www.4shared.com/file/233329942/419b640b/Hero_of_Lightmodv10part2.html

If you can handle the Resedit 2 there is a link with all the components so that you may decide which you want to replace. (It is much smaller)

http://www.4shared.com/file/233130969/e9df1830/Hero_of_Lightmodv10_parts_.html

I await your responses and/or questions

Hi there, I am very interested in your project, especially about the new  heroes specialties.
But since I'm not aware of all this modding stuff, could you explain us where to put all of the files, there are some I can't figure out in which folder they have to be.

EDIT : Nevermind, there is a readme file

I must make an account in one of those picture posting sites for that. I actually don't know how to post a picture on a thread.

Anyway, that's why I made a second download with all the DEFS and ERMS so that you can at least have an idea about what's going using DEFview.

If someone knows how to upload images, please respond and I will post some.

Furthermore If someone has any problem installing it, feel free to post your questions.

First of all I made a little BOO-BOO (IMPORTANT)

The upgraded Crusaders don't work so well. You have to replace the ERM script 67 with this one (the only thing that changes is the crusader->paladin upgrade).

http://www.4shared.com/file/233549057/7e228cf7/Script_67.html

Really sorry about that.

Secondly here are some screen shots (since this site only allows five for free...well..there are five of them)

First of all the new Conflux town. dwellings have been renamed, and some creature changed. It is now a town with really low vitality but great strength both in numbers and in damage. All the town's creatures have been tweaked a little so that they are in a bit of a balance

Secondly new heroes specialties: Most heroes with a weak specialty have been changed. You will find that now all Secondary skills have at least one hero who specializes in them. Furthermore, new spell specializations will make the heroes that specializes on them more desirable. For instance Sanya (former Eagle eye spesialization) has now Destroy Undead. When reaching a high level this spell will really kill a great amount of them (I tried it and the results are spectacular)

Thirdly there are the combination artifacts. In this picture there are all the artifacts which are now a combination. You will see them at the tutorial map as well.

To conclude this presentation there are the creatures tweaking. Each town has a creature that can be upgraded further. Skeletons are now upgraded to skeleton magi (a shooter) and lastly there are many new creatures that replace most of the original WOG creatures.

You're welcome.

For example, the description says the hero gets +5% bonus to Leadership. This skill gives +1 Morale, so how does that work?

With expert leadership you get +3 morale.

When your hero is level 20 he obtains 20x5%=100% bonus to her morale skills which means 3 + 3 = 6 morale. Same will apply for luck specialty.

If there's used standard specialty script - it won't work. Same with Luck, Tactics, Altillery, Ballistics (not sure at these two), Scouting, Diplomacy (again not sure), Pathfinding, Scholar, Earth, Air and Water Magic and a lot of units (if you don't use e.g. "+2 attack and defense for Halflings").

EDIT: Oh - and I forgot about so many spells...

It works for Leadership and Luck (the bonus is mentioned as for next battle).

Tactics, Ballistics, Air Magic and so on, indeed get no bonus and that's why I made the heroes start with expert on those skills (The bonuses are all mentioned to the speciality icon) As for scholar for instance, it gains a 5% bonus in WOG since it's made a percentage skill.

As for the creatures it works perfectly. They gain +1 attack defense and +1 speed.

The damage spells get damage bonus also. Sanya with a Destroy undead specialty at high level makes a +300 damage to Undead! (It isn't mentioned but you can figure it out by the casualties)

I have tested them all(What I mention at the specialty description is correct and verified)

At the moment I'm too lazy to check these again, so...

It would work perfectly if they gained bonuses when hero's level was higher than creature's level (e.g. Nomad gained +1 attack and +1 speed after hero's 3rd level).
And as I remember e.g. Air Elemental gains nothing, even after hero's 2nd level.

Maybe. I didn't check many spells actually.

Well I checked and they work.

As for the creatures you are right the bonus is fixed. I don't know how to edit it. However, I think its fixed for most of the creatures so...

It doesn't work for me.
I noticed that there is two places where you can find h3sprite.lod and h3bitmap.lod. I put yours in the data folder as stated.
I don't have the new creatures. I have the new dwelling names for conflux and my heroes' class is thief, though.
I guess the other files are in the right place.

Since you get the new texts it means that H3bitmap.lod was replaced successfully. Maybe you should try replacing H3sprite.lod again.(they are only in one place to me on the Data folder)

Furthermore are you sure you have done all the replacements stated? Have you replaced the scripts(and the new version of script 67 I posted)? Is the Neutral Town option checked? I wrote on the readme txt that some WOG options (and particularly this) should be ON and some OFF.

When you play the tutorial map included you'll see that the new creatures should surround some of the red player's heroes. If you don't see new creatures there then something went wrong.

If you don't work it out post again with more details what NEW can you see on that map and what you can't and we'll try to figure it out.

Nice work, but there is certainly a easiest way to install it other than downloading 200 Mo for changes that would fit a 2 Mo WoG file maximum. Try it in .wog format?

Some of creatures have no shadow, and all adventure sprites are without shadow. Maybe add them? Also the adventure sprites are incorrectly placed in def tool, so the yellow trigger will be seen outside the creature body. Only two hexes creatures are placed in the middle of the 64x64, others must be on the original side.

Thanks.

I know its too much that's why I made the second download option. I don't know how to make it a WOG update.

Feel free to try and make it if you want. It would be a lot easier.

As for the shadows... I know I had a little difficulty. Its my first try after all.

It is very easy:

1 step:

You need to create 5 txt. files.
Action.txt
H3BITMAP.TXT
H3SPRITE.TXT
INFORM.TXT
INSTMULT.TXT

Write inside:

Action txt:
[REGEDIT]

[INSTALL]

H3BITMAP.TXT:
**the names of any bmp you choose to replace

H3SPRITE.TXT:
**the names of all defs you choose to replace

INFORM.TXT:
[GeneralName]
Hero_of_Light_mod

[WhatAboutVrotAbout]
Ver 3.58f

INSTMULT.TXT:
[PICS]

[MUSIC]

Once you are done, select all the text files + all the defs/bmp and compress them to a rar file. Change the extension from .rar to .wog.

Now create a folder called Update and place the wog file inside

Now create a folder DATA and put all pcx in it.

Now create a folder inside Data folder, name it to s, then place the erm scripts.

Now select the new created Data+ Update folders we talk about and create a rar file. Now unrar this rar in any Heroes folder, the files will go in correct place and all the player has to do is click on update.exe and run it.
