Well, they've omitted some important things like the Brood War ("took control of teh zerg swarm" is an oversimplication) or the recent HotS campaign, but a fun watch nevertheless (I especially liked the "forged alliance and fled" Protoss bit )

The official summary outright ignores the whole UED plot, Aldaris revolt against the combined Protoss armies. Hell, it even talks about how Kerrigan enlisted Raynor, Zeratul and Mensgk and later betrayed...but not explaining to the new player why such alliance happened, how dire the situation was with a new overmind controlled by the UED...No mention about Raynor swearing to kill Kerrigan, Fenix ZZZzzz...

Mission packs have just been announced at Blizzcon, coming after LotV. First one will feature Nova in a 3 missions mini-campaign. Nice

It was ridiculous. Underwhelming ending for such a classic title.

Tassadar was not Xel'Naga all along, only the "ghost" of him that appeared to some people was.

The story was forced into the same mold as previously, where you have to discover units one by one. It simply is not believable. Also how come tens of thousands of years all these epic weapons and artifacts from ancient times are lying all around, and now you find them all in one go. Just MEH.

Also I feel like all the previous stories seem nullified. Like all was planned from the beginning, in the sense of infinite cycles. Like thanks.

I enjoyed playing the campaigns, but for a game this long in the making I must agree with you guys: the story ending was underwhelming (I'm aware that the story after WoL was made up on the go, still they had quite a lot of time to finish the whole story properly). It felt really cheap! I mean only a short cliched cutscene (no ending cinematic, what the hell Blizz?) plus a few art pieces. And they really didn't tell us that much (a bit more about Protoss? Purifires anyone? Well we know the whole idea, but they could've said something more about various characters/factions). They should've made something better to end this whole 20 year old story...

Hmm, maybe they're keeping some tidbits for the coming mission packs? Who knows...

About the campaign itself: there were some really cool ideas (Purifires, Tal'darim rite of ascension, or the whole nostalgia-infused army builder with Dragoons and Reavers ), and although it was fun to play them, I found LotV missions the most generic from the three racial campaigns. It was practically all about 'build your base and destroy your enemy' thing, aside from those few hero missions... We didn't see any innovative (or "different" if you like) missions like the infected outbreak from WoL, or the Protoss ship infestation from HotS (and there were so many other interesting missions in both campaigns).

Overall, with all it's great value, it seems like LoTV was made in a bit of rush...

PS: On the bright side, I finally did have the chance to see a xel'naga (what a creep ). Something that I wanted to see since long ago...

Only in his SC2 appearances. He was a protoss who sacrificed himself (using energies of both High and Dark templars) to destroy the Overmind. The Xel'Naga thing, it was only for SC2.

The relationships in SC1 were so awesome. Between humans, between theh races, and between just almost everyone. Like you had to choose the lesser of 2 evils - either side with Kerrigan the mass murderer or with the Overmind, the power than can control all the Zerg at the same time and has a vicious need to assimilate all of Protoss.

Like what the duck happened! Everything is so simple now. You have only one big enemy and you shall do everything do defeat it. I just find it boring. There were no real twists in the campaign either.

Yeah, they went the "easy" way. It's a simple story, almost too simple. And it's adorable how all the races fought the common enemy (at least those endgame tidbits give hope, Zagara seem to continue the "zerg way"). And it's a cute cliche how Raynor got his "prize" at the end (it's worth noting that devs said themselves in the dev commentary included in the bonus materials that it might only be a dream though). I mean, we all know campaigns are just filler for this multiplayer-in-heart game... right?...

Well it wasn't that bad, but I really hoped for something more, some twists etc. Playing the Protoss was a great expierience, the campaign was really polished, interesting and it kinda closes logically ("we will rebuild our civilization" etc). But the epilogue was just meh. Very generic, and left me not only indifferent but also wanting (for more info) at the same time...

PS: I guess they look weak on my computer, but I must say those game engine cutscenes look really good when played via blu-ray (they are all collected on the bonus "Behind the scenes" disc included in the CE of LotV)...

I loved the story. Except the enemy. He sucked. Amon was very much terror in the real world.

Just this evil looming over us all not in a particular form or anything.

But I loved the campaign and the maps, I loved the Spear of Adun and the return of Fenix (I forgot the new name he took. But all in all it reminded me a lot of the HotSwarm campaign. Way too many similarities but well..

All in all a great little trilogy.

LoTV was the worst of the campaigns in my mind. I just didn't feel like missions were anything special, just dime in a dozen. If you ever got allies they were there to expect you to do their job for them. Missions were much easier than previous games(it was easy to do the achievement requirements on the first try). Didn't really feel the plot was that good either, very straight forward with no decisions(like say allying with dark templars or Taldarim will alienate some other factions). The unit -type selection and passive/active boosts from Adun were too much of no brainers or it didn't matter. I don't think they even used all the heroes we saw in the wings of liberty extra mission which was a bummer.

Now that's not say that the game wasn't still good overall. The real problem is that I just don't feel like going back to LoTV missions like I still do for original SC/Broodwar(I liked the story much better as well as the heroes) or previous SC2 campaigns(they had their moments as well).

Edit: Was really disappointed in dragoons btw. Such useless unit compared to the stalkers that I never tried again after first time. Such a shame, was a unit I was really looking forward to seeing them again

Jim : "But you promised..."
Kerrigan : "Umm... I lied...?"
Fenix :"What treachery is this?"
Kerrigan : "lel"
Mengsk : "You murderous snow!"
Kerrigan "ROLFLOL"
DuGalle: "Ok ok! I surrender, just please let my men live...!"
Kerrigan: "Hoooow about no? I just slaughter you all, k?"

Awwww I miss Broodwar

But indeed I like playing the campaign of LotV, game is gorgeous. ^^ But yeah there is no scenes like the Admiral of human fleet killing himself while writing a letter to his wife at home. Dark.

Edited for Stormys eyes ;p

Co-op

What a great feature. What a great idea. What a waste of time..

I tried this yesterday because I really want to play more SC and I am not that good a multiplayer. But what is up with the poor remakes of Campaign maps that is too easy and boring..

And then adding those great heroes, so you feel like your choices matter and you can lvl up.. It is a cheap trick to keep players playing .. I was not pleased

Poor one! My childhood was completly about of Sc1. I getted a plenty of penalty 'cos I played to "Rude". Some thimes I kick into they face while they moved up the slide and shouted: "WHERE IS MADAFCKN AIR SUPPORT!?"

But at all I was a peaceful child...

Blizz releasing a half-baked idea? Impossible!

Even since the merge with Activision, Blizzard has been on the decline...and that it's reflected in most of its games.
