IMHO, I think they're going to try to do it anyways. I fully expect it to backfire, and THEN they'll implement LAN play, although they should've done it before.

We'll see what happens though.

You really don't get it, do you? An average connection in "cities" are around 1-2 Mbs, and 2 Mbs is the most common, even among gamers and downloaders. So say you have a good connection (2 Mbs) you will still have major problems since if you have a LAN at your place with ten people you'll only get around 100 Kbs each, since you rarely even get a full connection. That's totally unplayable.

Actually. Normal connection is 2/512 or 2/1. So with four players that is 512/128. Ten players and it's 204/51 and that's like playing with a god damn 56kbps modem!

Indeed. You rarely get a full connection so if you have a 2/1 connection you can count with something like 1-1,5/1 (upspeed is rarely much lowered) and I just thought we could let the up speed out of this, for the simplicity. But yes, playing several people on an average connection is impossible, which is what I've been saying.

Anyhow... I'm slowly crawling up the ladder. i'm regularly winning in the copper league... I ended up there because i had to leave in the middle of 2/5 of my placement matches.

It probably has everything to do with my foes and nothing to do with my skill.

Lol I got located in copper after my placement matches too. xD
But I was like 5 years old when Starcraft 1 came. Go figure.

Starcraft II

I have mostly been playing as Protoss and therefor, I will focus mostly on them. I love the graphics in the game. They are beautiful and Blizzard-like. The game is a lot of fun even though I have not played it in a while but will play a bit more soon and start learning to play the Zerg (I have focused on the Protoss).
Balance in the game seems okay according to statistics. Each race wins about 33% of the time. Zerg may lake a little diversity.

Protoss
I quickly started to just LOVE the Protoss. They have so many different and interesting units and mechanics.
Their macro is "Chrono boost". It speeds up production and research rate and is really useful. I always hotkey my Nexus so I can do Chrono boost fast.
The first unit you will get once you have your Gateway is the Zealot. The Zealot is a slow but powerful melee unit. Personally, I think it is a bit slow because Zerglings can just do hit and run attacks on it and it can be kited by marines... The Zealot gets really powerful though when it gets the Charge upgrade. It runs at high speed towards the enemy and just starts to slice them.
I love Zealots with Charge. Without it? It's an okay unit.

Stalkers, 2 Pylons and 2 Warpgates. I like to block the choke points in these kind of maps. Sentrys block the small gap and Stalkers just kill everyone outside it.

Stalkers are the new Dragoons. They are fast and do okay damage. I always have stalkers to back up my army and they are very effective against air. They can be upgraded with Blink, allowing them to teleport from gaps etc and opening some interesting harass tactics with an Observer to provide sight over a cliff. Stalkers cost gas and require a Cybernetics Core to be built. You should always research the cheap Warpgate technology from the Cybernetics Core as with it, you can produce units anywhere on the map within a Proxy field (Pylons, Warp Prisms). Warpgate allows units to be produced in an instant.

I win with a combination of Sentries, Stalkers and a Pylon below his base so I can get a constant flow of reinforcements. Notice the Force fields. The Zerg forces where behind that Hive that I just destroyed in this screenshot. With Force field, I managed to get them stuck behind the Hive while my other sentries and stalkers just slaughtered them. It is such a fun ability.

Another unit from the Gateway/Warpgate is the Sentry. This is possibly the coolest new unit in the entire game and opens so many tactics. Some people even consider it OP (though it really isn't, you can counter it) - especially against Zerg.
Sentrys have Guardian Shield, which creates a bubble reducing ranged damage taken by a lot. It is very useful against Terran who always go with Marines and Marauders. But their really good ability is Force Field. They can create a barrier on the battlefield that lasts for 15 seconds and no units can pass through it.
It breaks up formation and is just so useful. I love going Sentries with Force fields backed up with Stalkers.

If you build Templar Archivies and then another Templar building (or vice versa) you get access to the powerful High Templar. High Templar just kills masses of light units with the researchable Psistorm and kill caster units with Feedback. When they are out of mana, they can become Archon. I often use High templar or Colossus against Terran.
Then there is the Dark templar. Build the Archivies and then a Dark Shrine. Dark templar rules. Most players dont expect them so just make a Warp prism and 4 dark templar and you will win the game if they do not have a lot of expansions or any form of detection. They deal enormous damage.

After building a Cybernetics Core you have access to several buildings such as the Robotics Facility. I almost always try to get a Robotics Facility to easily scout the enemy and adapt. One of my favorite tactics is building first a Robotics facility and see if they have any detection. If they do not, then you can start to make Dark templar and win the game.
Observers are great invisble scout that ironically can see other invinsible units too. Then there is the Immortal. These guys never take more than 50 damage due to their Hardened Shields passive. They also deal huge damage to Tanks etc with heavy armor. I really like these. If I get a robotics facility I like to back-up my army with just a few of these.
The Colossus is another new Protoss unit. It looks like the tripods from War of the World and shoot beams for splash damage. Also great against masses of light units. They can walk up cliffs to avoid damage and have long range. However, they are vurnuble to air attacks since they are so tall and therefor I like High templars better plus the fact that Psionic Storm looks so cool in Starcraft 2 (and once again, it leads up to Dark templar tech so I can decide if I want to go for DTs or HTs).
The finally Robotics unit is the Warp prism. It is basically a drop-ship but it can also create a proxy pylon fields, allowing you to send reinforcements from Warpgates quickly. I often transport Dark templar with these.

But I can not forget about the Stargate. The Protoss has some really powerful aerial units. The Void Ray is my favorite.
Void Ray rush is a fun tactics because Void rays are so powerful and fun units. I often go Zealots + Void Rays.
The Voíd Ray has an ability to charge up its beam weapon three times. It needs to focus attack to charge up and when its fully charged - it is devastating. 2 Void rays easily destroy a Nexus, Hive or Command Center. At the same time I back them up with Zealots.
Charged Void rays destroy everything in their way.
The Phoenix used to be a useless anti-air unit but since a recent patch they are now the fastest unit in the game plus they can shoot while moving. I love using these to hunt down Overlords to supply lock the Zerg. They also have Graviton Beam, which lifts up a ground unit making it unable to attack plus other phoenxes can attack it while in that state.
I have unfortunaly not used Carriers at all. I used the Mothership once, but it is so slow. The Mothership makes everything around it invisible and this should be so useful if it was faster. It can not keep up with any flying unit except unupgraded Overlords.

That was all for the Protoss. I love the Protoss for their wast diversity in units and that there are so many different tactics for them. They have several different abilities and so much utility and can just get a constant flow of reinforcements.
The Protoss is by far the best designed race and most fun. Though I am sure some people would disagree.

Also I took this screenshot to show how much I hate Terran players who just are asses all the time.

Bump!

SC2 will soon be released! So how about some of the people in HC teams up and kills some people! Or each other! I've got the beta, and I've got a job this summer so I might just afford to get this game!

My impressions so far:
First of: The editor seems great, but since I've only "tried" it with my sucky comp it barely runs (not on a big map/ I try to test run the map/uses winamp at the same time or just wants to browse the web: Simply put, I haven't tried it. Only looked at it.). Unfortunatly the browsing system for custom maps sucks! It's rated by how many times the map is played, so the only way to get high on the list is have quick maps for few players (few players means more plays per playing player/quick games results in more plays per hour) so those map will be on top of the list because of that. Not because they really are the most popular, or the best.

It is still a bit unbalanced. Especially in late game, since few matches get that far. Still, it is far better than most RTS's out there. It is more balanced the WC3 for example, and that's still quite balanced!

I've played mostly as protoss since I've always liked them best, though I am best with the zerg and think that terran has most potential (in SC:BW that is). I kinda feel the same now, 'cept I have barely touched the zerg yet (I started playing a couple of days before the total reset the other day and now I want my avvies back!). Protoss seems to be severly overplayed, so I'm thinking of stop playing protoss.

So, who's got the beta? And who'll get it when it's released?

I preordered it ages ago, so, yeah, definitely (I hated their no offline LAN stunt, but since I already had spent the preorder money, c'est la vie. Diablo 3 is on probation though! )

(I'm just gonna assume your run windows) It should be first thing in the SC2 folder (propably c:\Program Files\Starcraft II Beta or c:\Program Files\Blizzard\Starcraft II Beta unless you changed it). That they didn't put it in the start menu folder is kinda stupid.

Very funny... Yes, there are two EXPANSIONS coming to Starcraft 2 and each expansion focuses on its own race - the Zerg (Heart of the Swarm) and the Legacy of the Void (Protoss).
I do not see whats wrong with that, you do not just get an extra campaign but whole new units etc aswell. Just as a normal expansion.

Well, two of them are expansion packs and with WoW you could just download all expansions.

So they would just cost like any other game atm with two expansions.

Plus its not that much either.
