So far, I am a Protoss player. I mean who doesn't like psionic supernatural aliens who has ships that can shoot lazor beams?
So far, I have pretty much destroyed my enemies early and tried some differnet tactics (I observed what others did to me too).

Zealot Rush: Almost works everytime but is hard against Terran who (if they are not noobs I guess) builds a freaking wall made by a barrack and atleast two supply depots with marines behind. I guess I should back up the Zealots with Stalkers in those situation or just fly past with a Warp prism but I usually use the tactic below against Terran.

Void Ray Rush: These are awesome. People do not have anti-air if you do a surpise attack with these. Sometimes you encounter skilled players who either sees or guesses that you are making a Stargate. But these deal HUGE DAMAGE when there are like only 2 of them and their lazor beams are fully charged. I use this against

Recently I had a very fun game against Terran, I nearly lost.
So I was going for Void Ray rush and did so. I succeeded. I did not expect however that he had a hidden Starport and massed up stealthed Banshees. xD As the newbie that I am, I had neither Photon Cannons nor Observers to spot them. So it was a race against time. So he destroyed my Nexus and I destroyed his Command Center. I established a new Nexus and he a new Command Center. Same thing happens. But now none of us have any rescourses left to build anything more. So I have one Void ray, a couple of Zealots and like 2 Probes VS several SCVs, like 2 marines and 3-4 Banshees.
Who won? I did. Because Banshees can only attack ground units and Void Rays can attack both. With my single Void ray I destroyed all his flying buildings and his Banshees. It was a bit frustrating but very weird and extremly fun and interesting.
xD I MUST get fraps or something and upload it. It was hilarious.

Things to learn about Protoss: Learn to use the Sentry abilities. It has an AoE Shield ability and can make force fields which can break up masses of lets say zerglings or zealots.
Get Photon cannons up early. This is why I sometimes fail against Terran. Their stealthed Banshees (with a female pilot). If I only established some Photon cannons and Stalkers, it would be no problem. Currently I have only played in early game. I usually win through Zealot rush or Void ray rush.

Another fun tactic which I encountered was a protoss player coming in to my base and building the extractor thing on my Vespene Gas. I was aiming for an early Zealot rush, so I didn't need the gas but I imagine that it would be effective against Terran and stopping those annoying Reaper hit and run attacks.
I actually tried this tactic against another Protoss and he was like GG instantly when he saw what I did. I do not really understand why though. He still had a large chance to win against me. I guess he was aiming for Stalkers and I kind of forced him to rethink since he had like one zealot and one gateway (he didn't intend to zealot rush like me). Sometimes I feel bad about rushing when people say Good luck, have fun at the start of every game. While it obviously is fun to me - I think rushes are hilarious - it might not be such an interesting game for them. My goal is to turtle a bit into higher techs tomorrow. I really want to try out the Dark templar and the Psistorm and the Mothership.
Also I want to try the mass Stalkers + Immortals combo I have seen. And ofc the Mamaship some day.

What I feel Protoss lacks is an early splash-damage unit such as the Zergs Banelings or the Terran Hellions. We have to wait for the expensive and vurnuble (it's so large it can be attacked by air units) Colossi or High Templars psistorm (havnt tried that one yet, will do) in order to deal area damage to large numbers of marines and zerglings etc. Also I must try that mass Photon Cannons tactics. Unbeatable if you don't stop it early, I can promise that. And I want to use the Warp-In mechanism better too. I should try to build a forward base sometime and warp reinforcements directly there.

Tomorrow I will watch some real replays and learn more about playing the Protoss, aswell as learning how to defeat other Protoss players that spam cannons EVERYWHERE. Seriously. I was trying out the Zerg for like the second time (I suck with Zerg tbh, and they nearly destroyed Aiur) and I see this Protoss player building cannons everywhere and than massing stalkers.
And ofc trying to make the games a bit longer and try different tactics than rushing.

I guess I should have quickly gone and destroyed their pylons but I was pretty shocked since it was the first time
I am top 10 in my league right now, but ofc I am in the noob league and I almost always lose when I don't play the Protoss so I have a lot to learn. Atleast i'm being honest. xD

I am quite impressed, quite the tale.
It sounds like a fun game, quite the shame it lacks factions.

I pre-ordered it myself.

Let it be known that I'm praying for the LAN crack, since it seems Blizzard isn't going to include LAN play for their games anymore. I mean, wow, screw your honest paying players much? -_-
(If I have to get two copies of the game, fine. But I mean, wow, don't force me to play multiplayer online too; read below for more details as to why)

I love to play Blizzard games solo and with my dad, and I don't find it cute to have to find a way to share my internet connection (which atm has proven fruitless) just to connect to a computer not more than 3 feet away from mine.)

(Rumors abound that Battle.net 2 is going to be pay-to-play, thus giving more incentive to force players to play over it. Another rumor states that they want a piece of the tournament broadcasting pie, especially over in Korea where whole tournaments are televised and monetized. )

Prediction: No LAN is going to bite Blizzard in their collective behinds and they'll have to implement LAN play. Might be week 1 or week 10, but I believe there's still a pretty big demographic of people that play only on LAN. Only people who are screwed after a certain period are those who refuse to submit to the hacker bug and don't get the LAN crack. I bet the hacker communities are working on it as we speak, and the game's still only in beta.

To validate SC2? Didn't know that.

If you meant to play multiplayer, then let's agree to disagree.
It's my humble opinion that LAN should remain a part of Blizzard games. It's actually what made Starcraft so popular in the first place.

And I don't mind having to connect to validate. As I mentioned before, I don't mind getting two copies. It's the whole "YOU MUST CONNECT TO BNET RAWR TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER...RAWR." speech that got old fast.

Also, sharing one internet connection (which isn't entirely possible depending on your internet service provider) means terrible lag-related things.

Battle.Net is free to register to too and in the beta you must log in to Starcraft 2 to even play against the AI.

I wouldnt be suprised if Blizzard forces people to make battle.net accounts in order to log into Starcraft 2 just to play the campaign etc.

Blizzard said, at Blizzcon, that b-net 2 and SC2 is to be free to use and play. Also that SC2 will be available offline, though you can not get any "achievements" but they didn't mention LAN. That the beta is so restricted is a different thing since they want to test the new b-net and prevent pirating. The finished product is promised to be available offline, at least AI-games and campaign. Hopefully LAN and mapediting/mapsharing will be available as well, though they have not promised that.
I hope that Blizzard at least keep the aspect of honesty above the average game company, even though they've repeatedly have lowered themselves the past years.

Right, and I've played it as well! It seems to be awsome even though I didn't have the time to check everything out as I've only played four games, and only tried protoss and terran (terrans air forces were sucked though) and it was even before the beta was released, so there's propably been some major balancing!

You don't get it do you?
A private LAN, 4-16 people, insane amounts of filesharing.
A guy or 2 comes in with THE game, it gets shared a around and then all the participants start playing it like a frenzy.
A good way to increase skill level in about any online game too

But you can make custom games with your friends? I do not see the difference. You can still play with each other at a LAN through Battle.Net... I do not understand about the file sharing thing. The game runs worse on battle.net or what?

Isn't the problem that you have to log on to Battle.net at any time if you wanna play with others - which mean that you cannot crack the game and play lan through a cracked version?

Meaning they are forcing all to buy it?

Because even the fisrt Diablo can have incredible latencies while playing from the same house. Most annoying. Every player you add raises the possibility of the match lagging. If you'd be playing on LAN you wouldn't have to worry about that.

Ok Xerox, you and your nine friend (ten seems like a good number) decides to have a LAN party. You get there (wether you own the game or not is not the matter, but let's say every one of you own the game) and decides to play with each other. With a normal LAN connection you can use the normal network, propably 100 Mbit/s connoection with a switch. That's a GOOD and STEADY connection.
Playing through b-net ten people needs to connect through the home connection, since you happen to have the LAN at a friends place, all the ten of you share a 24 Mbit/s second, which usually only performs 20 Mbit/s, but sometimes drops down to a lot less. So that adds up to a 2 Mbit/s connection each, that should be sent across Europe (to a Blizzard server) and back again, instead of the 100 Mbit/s connection each that can be sent directly to the other computers.
That's one possible (even likely) scenario that very well could happen to you (and will happen to me, but with a 2 Mbit/s (which is a maximum) connection, since I live on the country).
Another scenario is that you decide to play with your friends over the internet instead. Yep, B-net will work fine most of the time, but it's still sending the data across Europe to be processed by a Blizzard server. Having a connection that can send data directly to your friend would still be faster, safer and more stable. It might also be easier to avoid unwanted company and to actually find the right friend (since I haven't used the new B-net I really can't tell).
So wether you want to play on a LAN or on the internet with specific people a LAN connection is to prefer. Besides, there will be a crack for it in no time, once again only being in the way of the people who decides to buy and not crack the game. Having it basic service and just common sense. Not having it is stupid and bad service towards the REAL customers.

The first Diablo was released a millenia ago, I am sure that things have improved since then.

I am 100% sure the game will become unplayable on LAN (with battle.net) just because of Battle.Net.

Also I thought LAN was just a bunch of computers in the same room. Atleast when I have done it with my friends.

Yeah Xerox, a LAN is a bunch of computers hooked up with each other at the same place. So there's most likely only one internet connection that every one have to share. A fast home connection (in Sweden(where you live)) 24 Mbs. The regular LAN speed is 100 Mbs each.
Let's instead say you are ten people sharing ab average speed of 2 Mbs, which adds upp to 200 Kbs each. Which is far too little to play on the net with.

I'm pretty sure they will enable LAN play after all. It just won't count for achievements and so on, which is ok with most players.

Requiring connection to play the game off internet is a no go.
Something that lame is to be expected from Ubisoft (reason why i didn't buy settlers 7), but i don't think Blizzard will go that route in the end.
