Resident Evil: Outbreak

Note: If you have never played any Resident Evil games, or watched the movies, you may not understand some stuff..

I have been playing this game for 3 days now, and I must say it's very good and awesome game . There are 8 characters; Kevin Ryman, Mark Wilkins, David King, George Hamilton, Jim Chapman, Yoko Suzuki, Alyssa Ashcroft, and Cindy Lennox. They all have their special abilities/items. My favorite character is either Kevin or Yoko. Kevin has a .45 caliber handgun in the beginning, with 7 bullets, and Yoko can carry 4 extra items with her (all others have 4 slots for all items/weapons, Yoko has 8). So, purpose of the game is to survive, escape the zombies, and rescue other people. There are 5 scenarios in the game, when you complete 1, a new one is unlocked. I'm currently on the third scenario, which is very hard. The scenario is in an hospital, and the purpose is to leave and survive. There are these "Leech Men" in the hospital. Almost in all rooms you go, 1 of these guys attack. You cannot kill them, but you can fool them. You need to find bags of blood in the hospital, and place them to the ground, the Leech Man then just starts eating the blood, ignoring everything else. There's an elevator in the hospital, with it you can go to 3F, 2F, 1F, and B1F. You need to first go to the B1F, use a computer and import codes, to unlock ROOFTOP and B2F. The scenario is very hard, almost impossible, but now that I have watched some videos from Youtube, I think I'll manage now. You don't need to complete a scenario 100% to unlock the next one, just do enough quests.

The first scenario was very easy. It starts on the 1F of Jack's Bar. Zombies break in to the bar, and you must escape to the upper floors. There's a door, locked, blocking the stairs, you first need to find a key from 1F to open it. When you escape to the 2F, more and more zombies come. You just need to get to the ROOF, and survive back to the Main Street, and kill some zombies.

The second scenario is harder. I've managed to do 79% of the quests, but never to the goal. When I melt the train/elevator/?, also the weird powerful monsters melt. The monsters always manage to kill me and my buddies so I never survive..

But anyways, if you've played this game, please tell me who's your favorite character, and if you know something great about the game, please post here.

And If you have never even heard of the game, or the Resident Evil series, check this page for more info:

I can't recall if I played that one specifically or not Gnollking. But I will say that I absolutely LOVE the Resident Evil line. From the games to the movies, I love them all.

& Milla Jojovich is just simply exceptional for the roles.

Resident Evil is easily amoungst the top game series ever invented IMHO. I can't wait for the next one!

Yes, me too, they are the best horror games and movies ever made

Yup, no one else would fit the role.

Me neither, and as far as I know, a new movie is supposed to be released on September 2010 , and they said, that it would be the first one to be also made in 3D.

Yep! my better half is all over that. I get regular reports now days, lol.

I just hope that the game release will be as excellent as the rest.

Oh, what is your favorite monster of all time?

I really always loved the mutant dogs from the early games. But I can't help but get around the devistating force of the Lickers. Those things scare the **** out of me every time I play. Rounding a corner, crawling on the roof, jumping through windows... I love playing with another as well. --smiles-- I'll be all walking around shooting stuff, the next thing I hear... "LICKERS, RUN!!!" ROFL...

I lob every weapon and explosive device at that time and then run like the dickens!

Yeah, lol...I have had to replace a few controllers that flew out of my hands from being scared.

My kids (most are mid teens to near grown now) still recall the days I had them watch me play Resident Evil -- Code Veronica. Maybe they were too young to watch me play? The resultant nightmares I had to calm down may have been an indicator? Today they just all play with me. Here's to raising our kids correctly! LOL

Outbreak is the rail shooter, no?

Pffft, lickers are for pussies. They die with handgun and six rounds. And don't even one shot you. Unless there's two of them. Like in a certain corridor in RE2...

Hunters now there's something! snows that can sometimes take magnum hit and not die. Not to mention one shot headcleave! And that they spawn in every snowing room that you thought cleaned...

Code Veronica wasn't even scary...

PS. New REs are plain shooters. Calling them horror is blasphemy.

Joonas,

With the Lickers, I thought they were pretty dang scary and so did my kids. But more than that, it was the nature of what they were that always got me. Idk, something about crawling around on all fours, with a 10 foot long tongue

Oh, and about the new Res's...yes the one for PS3 is nothing more than a shooter with a really bad screen lay out for playing with a partner.

I hope this next one gets back to their roots. Horror, Suspense and window crashing, controller throwing fear!

I hope they bring the survival back.
The first few had that.

Since Veronica we had so much ammo lying around we could bash through every monster there was...

Good point

Man it would really be something else if we were forced to survive with more hand to hand weapons and such as well.

Sadly, it seems that games now days are more about graphics than anything else....and that started with the Heroes IV, then V and VI will be no better I am sure.

Same with Resident Evil and just about any other game I have played as of late....all about graphics and hardly anything on playability.

Oblivion being one shining exception to that rule. God I love that game. Still playing it.

I own both outbreak games. I have never completed a mission in either of them except the first in both.

The games are cheap if you find them for a few reasons.

For one, these games were made for online multiplayer. When it was online, if you died you'd become a zombie and could chase around the other players. If you died at a certain level you'd become an invincible version of that stage's main antagonist monster. They shut down the servers in 2006 I think. Everybody moves around together and opening your inventory does not pause the game like in other RE games (even if you're playing single player!), which is something that gets me killed. Guess I'm not fast enough. The game has controls similar to RE2/RE:CV, except you can get your character that you're using to shout different built-ing commands to the others. The games both take place in the same city at the same time as Resident evil 2, only you play as civilians. You interact with some other RE2 characters (like Marvin, the infected cop pre-infection).

I got an action replay just so I could finish these games (the only resident evil games I ever tried to cheat at) except that the codes for part one do not work with my copy, so I never bothered.

Anyay, Kevin is good for the gun he has at the start, but each character is good in their own way. Mark is very good with close combat weapons and can push things that would usually take teamwork for everybody else. Skinny black guy whose name I forget kind of sucks because he gets infected so fast. I forget what Blondie lady does. The Plumber guy can use his toolkit to combine items together to make spears, flamethrowers, etc. Were there other characters? I forget.

Anyway, I think the games should be released on modern systems built for Xbox live/PSN, etc but also have it so if you're playing a single player offline game you can play in a classic RE2-like mode where you won't get owned for trying to heal.

My 2 cents =)

@Shyranis
Yes, all characters have great abilities, except Jim, he just sucks.

@Father
The dogs were awesome in my opinion, too . The dogs are also in the Outbreak, they're not hard at all to kill. In the movie, whoa, they were great.

@JoonasTo
I have to agree with you about the "horrorness" of the games nowadays.. When playing Resident Evil 3, it really scared me when Nemesis busted through the wall with a rocket launcher in the Raccoon Police Department .

And if anyone wants to know more about the characters, here is information of all of them:

Kevin Ryman is a Raccoon City police officer. He carries a .45 caliber handgun and his fast kick allows him to stun zombies even while unarmed. He can also take time to aim carefully, which allows him to deal more than normal damage to an enemy with a single shot. His good guy personality  worked against him and caused him to fail the S.T.A.R.S.  entrance examination twice.

Mark Wilkins is a powerfully-built security guard and Vietnam veteran, he cares for his family and is very protective of them. He carries a 9mm pistol and he can swing a blunt object more forcefully than any other character. He can guard against attacks to absorb less damage. Mark is the strongest character in the game.

David King is a plumber and a man of few words. Tough and taciturn, David is a skilled knife fighter who can perform a devastating attack with any knife. He carries a toolbox which contains a small folding knife and several small wrenches which may be thrown at enemies. The toolbox also contains junk parts which can be used to repair damaged firearms and duct tape which allows David to combine mundane items into formidable weapons such as flamethrowers, cattle prods, spears, and hammers.

George Hamilton is a surgeon at Raccoon City Hospital. Apparently fairly athletic for a doctor, George can tackle weaker enemies to drive them back or knock them down. He carries a medicinal kit which allows him to process herbs and drug bases into pill form for easier storage. Use of the kit also changes the effect of the herbs, however.

Jim Chapman worked in the Raccoon City subway. Somewhat of a coward, Jim has perfected the ability to "play dead," which causes enemies to ignore him (at the cost of an increased rate of infection). He carries a coin which he flips to make decisions. Getting "heads" confers a 15% increase in the odds of a critical attack. He is skilled at working out puzzles and can open complicated mechanisms that other survivors cannot access.

Yoko Suzuki is a college student at Raccoon University. She is slow, weak, and susceptible to attack, and her shooting skills are mediocre at best. However, she possesses the slowest virus gauge in the game, and her knapsack permits her to carry twice as many items as other characters. She has a history with the Umbrella Corporation, but she appears to be suppressing the memory of some traumatic experience at their hands. She can dodge many attacks and push away weaker enemies.

Alyssa Ashcroft is a reporter. Like Kevin, she can carefully aim pistols to inflict more damage. She also carries a lock picking kit and can open a variety of simple locks.

Cindy Lennox is a waitress at J's (or Jack's) Bar. She is well-liked for her cheerful attitude and optimism. She is always willing to help you when you call for help. Cindy carries an herb case which allows her to store multiple herbs in a single slot. She also has the ability to heal other characters. She can probably hold the most amount of items (next to Yoko) which makes her useful to the team.

Right, I forgot that some people find safe-ish spots on levels and abuse the coin flipping ability until they get 150% attack (the bonus is stackable) making him a killing machine. And you do need him on your team to open some paths if you ever want to see all of the areas of the game so he's not 100% useless.

Yesterday I played Outbreak a lot. I managed to go to the final scenario of the game "Decisions, Decisions", where the final boss is "Thanatos". He is super strong undefeatable masterpiece. First I had to give him some "shock therapy" then get some of he's blood. In the end, I had to kill him with only 1 shot, with this Rocket Launcher. He died, I continued. There comes the ending movie. No! After the movie, he just appears right in front of me (he died already), but now I need to kill him again! I found this cool gun (don't remember the name) witch killed him with only one shot. In the end, I had killed him 3 times. Also, there were these "Hunters" in the final scenario. They were something like human-toads, losers, just one shot with Shotgun and they're finished. But in the water it's another thing, in water Hunter Gammas can swallow you, meaning that you'll die.

But anyways, the best scenario was the fourth, "Hellfire". In the scenario, I was on a house which was burning. I had to get out of the house and escape. The house is full of Lickers. The boss of the scenario was Regis Licker (which was very very easy). A great scenario it was indeed.

Now, I have completed every scenario except the second one, "Below Freezing Point". I think I'll finish it today. Then I need to complete all the scenarios with all the characters (means I need to finish 40 scenarios (8 characters x 5 scenarios)). Then I also have to defeat the scenarios in all difficulties (4 of them), which means I'll need to play 160 scenarios .

Just one more thing to say. I have played all scenarios on Easy mode, only (except second scenario). Started playing on Normal today. When all scenarios are completed on either Easy or Normal, the Hard difficulty is unlocked. When all scenarios are completed on Hard difficulty, the Very Hard difficulty is unlocked. Just why is it like that?! I'd like to try the final boss on Very Hard difficulty right now, but no, I'll need to play all scenarios on either Easy or Normal, and then all scenarios on Hard..

The game is awesome and really good, I recommend it to anyone who likes the RE movies or games .

You think the nemesis in the third is scray?
Go play the second one and notice that normal zombies are more scray.
They just won't die! A clip from handgun and it's still coming!
