HOMM2 Campaign High Scores

Is there a definitive list of high scores out there? I've seen some FAQ writers claim scores of 220-230ish for both Roland and Archibald, but having just played through them again I found it is easily possible to beat those scores. Does anyone have any comparable times?

Thanks,
- N

Without doing a lot of restarts to obtain ideal start conditions on each map or game reloads to get the best results from each battle, my records for Roland and Archie are 136 and 168.  Some claimed records -- like 52 days for Roland -- are IMO clearly impossible without cheats of some sort.  You can't even GET TO all the map objectives in that kind of time, let alone achieve them.

Interesting! My records are 148/198. It sounds like there is some theoretical limit we are approaching.

I suspect the Roland campaign can be done in about 100 days, maybe a little more for Archie.  Having a pack of dragons join you is certainly lucky!  Maybe these people who claim to finish the campaigns in a few months just reload and reload until all wandering monsters join them, the first shipwrecked sailor gives the Battle Garb of Anduran, etc.!

52 days is the record, no cheats but a lot of load until every thing is optimal.

How do you KNOW there were no cheats?  How is it possible even to cover all the required distances in that time, let alone obtain enough forces to defeat all the AIs?  Just reloading won't do it, because the RNG is only capable of giving certain combinations, not ANY combination.  Maybe by editing the RNG look-up table?

Maybe by using brains? Why do you think that folks, who play better than you, are cheaters?

I'm sure lots of folks play better than me.  But HOW MUCH better is it possible to play?  If I claimed to have finished the Roland campaign in 19 days, wouldn't you think I must have cheated?  HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?  Having looked at the levels in the map editor, I will not be persuaded by a walk-through that says things like, "On the first day, go to the castle in far corner of the map and kill the titans with your peasants."

Roy, I understand your doubts. I don't remember well what were the high scores for HoMM2 but I know how fast HoMM3 ones could be finished.

Let me give you an example: HERE you can download a HoMM3 map which was the object of a blitz russian competition. Try it and tell me how fast you think it can be completed. Then I will tell you what was the record on and how he did it, as he posted the solution with the score.

The hardest part is traveling through the swamp early. The solution is to find in the tavern "the" hero with fast neutral units to remove the penalty. From there, you only have to play at highest level, save/load until all your steps are perfect.

too much for me. this would mean i had to kill the behemoth with my 1 genie? seems to me to be the only tavern reachable in one day.

i will follow this thread. maybe someone can do it and tell me how he did it.

One master genie + the catapult to kill the behemoth. Try to combine their forces

Yeah, I remember that map vbn was a winner. No one else could do it so fast. 'Master Genie + Catapult' trick was pretty new for me
