Hi, Gnu.
Nice to have you playing that round.
Yet I'm sorry you started the wrong list: the "2 languages" theme has been cancelled and replaced by the "covers" one.
It may come back later, but for the moment, I only wish you choose 10 cover songs.

I'll say who's the winner for this round friday.
By then, maybe Mytical or Gnu will end their lists?

Well it is absolutely personal and therefore unfair, I must say

But you'll be judging by yourself when you win a round!

@Jiriki: sorry, I have forgotten you did not finish. Indeed, I hope rounds can be shorter than before and not last 2 months.

I've been looking, but so far most of the songs I find that are covers the original is as good or better. No, I am not including Eminem Toy Soldiers in my list..Martika's is 100x times superior.

I may or may not be able to find 1 more cover song I like better then the original.

Yes, I have some strange strange tastes .

Finished my list. Included the last one because of time limitations, and the fact most do not know it was a cover song (ie somebody had done it before).

The judgment is worth a double post

Still Friday here so here is my decision.
First, I thank you all, you made me discover lots of new covers I didn't know. I enjoyed that.
Now for the lists:

Markkur
I'm afraid I couldn't find your first song, so I began the list on the 2d. On the overall, I must admit none of your choices really made my heart beat... Sorry. There were nice songs and nice versions, but nothing tremendous for me.

Gnu (do you mind if I call you only Gnu?)
A nice list, but not that much (again: personal feeling). I like some (first and third surely, I didn't know Volbeat), I dislike some other (especially nineth, that I would rather call 'remix' than 'cover' btw). In the end, a medium score.

Mytical
As for Markkur, I couldn't find your first choice. The nine others form a quite good list. Respect is an excellent pick, I haven't think of it. No Doubt and Presley are welcome too. I just think the pleasure slows a little during songs 7 to 9. I didn't know Springsteen's War was a cover, the original is indeed from Temptations, btw.

That leaves only Jiriki and SwampLord left.

Jiriki
Good list! You sure picked very good ones (Cocker and Cash). Cheese is I think a must have talking about covers, and I like Manson's version as well. The con of your list is its lack of variety. I am also a fan of rock and punk-rock, but your #3-4-5 really sound alike I think. I would have appreciate more music styles.

SwampLord
Same as Jiriki on the overall. You have Cheese that makes a good ending, Glee is also in my list (I agree their covers are amazing), and Alien Ant Farm manage to stick to MJ's standards, which is not easy. Your #7 & 8 are funny and musically right enough to make me enjoy them, so as Children of Bodom. The drawback of your list is its low transition quality: between 2&3 or 4&5, there is no connection. It sounds more like 10 songs put side by side than a 'real' playlist.

However, I must admit I enjoyed more SwampLord's list than Jiriki's.

So Congratulations to SwampLord, who gains the honor to rule next round!

Next round will be 80s music; does that sound good to you guys?

Rules are simple: anything goes, as long as it was released between 1980 and 1990. Bonus points will be awarded for lists that have coherent themes, as it is quite a large category. Go for it!

Woohoo, 80's rock and roll is my favorite.

Ok..I could list SOOOO many of these it is not funny..but since we are limited to 10..I am going to use 'power ballads'. A Power Ballad is "An emotional rock song, generally focused on love, delivered with powerful vocals"

Now there are a few bands that have to be included in any Power Ballad list however, with 10 you can't possibly get all of the GREAT Power Ballad groups.  So I will list my top 10 favorite Power Ballad songs.  In order from 10 to my absolute favorite.

10 - Broken Wings Mr. Mister.

9 - Nothings gonna Stop us Now Starship

Since I only wanted one song from any one band..had a hard time choosing between Whitesnake's Here I go Again, and Is this love..

8 - Here I go Again Whitesnake

7 - 18 and life Skid Row

6 - Sister Christian Night Ranger

5 - I want to know what love is Foreigner

4 - When the Children Cry White Lion

GAH SOO many good ones and running out of list!  Still have a ton..REO speedwagon, KISS, Warrent, Cinderella, Poison, Bon Jovi, Gun's N Roses....*sighs*

Decisions decisions between Cinderella's Don't know what you got and Nobody's fool....

3 - Nobodys Fool Cinderella

Even harder decision, Poison's Every Rose has it's Thorn or Something to Believe in!

2 - Every Rose has its Thorn Poison.

Then there is Bon Jovi..where do you even START with Bon Jovi..so many epic songs..Living on a prayer, Wanted Dead or alive, You give love a bad name, Knocking on heavens door.  Heck you could make a top 10 JUST with Bon Jovi songs.  Since this is a ballad list, I am going to have to go with...

1 - You give love a bad name Bon Jovi

The whole list would change if I went with more then one song by any artist.  However, I believe variety is nice, and this list would be my favorite 'variety' list of Power Ballads.

I allways thought every rose has it's thorn was older^^

Well, I'm an idiot concerning such things XD

I don't knwo wether I will take some coherent theme. It may give bonus points, but it could lack variety...also I NEED to have two german punk rock bands in, when speaking about the eighties, but I don't want that to be the theme. Maybe I'll jsut choose "German 80s" as theme, but yet maybe I wont^^ I could also search for songs following a same idea or such, from different genres...
We'll see..

nevertheless, in will be:

Die Toten Hosen
Die Ärzte
MAYBE (since I'm even not sure about release dates by them): Extrabreit
...and many more...

Lol, I could easily make 20 top 10 list, without using the same song OR group/solo artist/duo when it comes to the 80s.  Country, various kinds of rock (including pop)..girl power.. remember I was 6 when the 80's started, and 16 when they ended.

Every rose has it's thorn was made in 1988 debuting on the album Open Up and Say Ahh!
