Antoher Heroes Spinoff: HoDE

Heroes of Dark and Evil

Just a vision. A kinda horror-based HoMM-spinoff, like my HoSP and bixies HoHS, mechanically close to H5.

The setting is our earth in the late 19th/early 20th century. Steam engine and such are allready common etc. But on this earth, something is terribly different. An ancient rite has awakened the 13 archdemons, mighty powerful beings of evil. They still have no physical body on this world, and each of them wants to be the first to have, to stop their brothers and rule Earth. The archdemons use their mortal minions as well as inferior demons and other beings of evil to push their plans through. The power of heaven knows of the Archdemons awakening, but it is yet to see if they will be able to gather strength quick enough to prevent just the roughest destruction.

Magic in the common HoMM-sense will probably not exist. Not sure, though.

Note. I'm not too into Horror Genre, so the following factions will be made of my visions and are inspired by a few impressions of mine, touching the genre.

No for factions.

The Order:
A division of the Catholic Church allways had foreseen the Archdemons' rising. Now that it has come, they form the strongest resistance against them, guided and protected by the few Angels which have, by now, made it onto earth.

Hero: Inquisitor

Short-Lineup (6-Tiers):
Tier 1: NovicePriest/Monk
Tier 2: GuardSwiss Guard/Sacred Guard
Tier 3: Evil-HunterCherub/Seraph
Tier 4: ClericPaladin/Bishop
Tier 5: KnightTemplar/Holy Knight
Tier 6: AngelCherub/Seraph(Brave,large, Healing,flyer,Divine Blade,Resurrect Living,Aura of Bravery)

The Watchmen:
A secret mage circle that is not devoted to heaven, but allways knew of the Powers of Evil and strives to protect the Earth for their own reasons. They are not really good - but compared to the Archdemons, they are playful and friendly.

Tier 2: /
Tier 3: /
Tier 4: /

The Vampires:
Vampires have existed on earth for millenniums, but now, with the Archdemons, and amongst them their creator, Thaar Bloodlord, rising, they gather more and more. The lonely hunters are becoming a strong, huge force, which wants to create their land of eternal Night.

The Mirror-Worlders:
The Mirror-World is a World very close to ours, jus ton the other side of every mirror. The two worlds are very alike, but the mirror world is a twisted, weird, dangerous version of our world, whose paths can lead completely different. The beings of the mirror-world are not necessarily evil, or at least, they have not allways been. But the archdemon Inrha rules them for aeons now, and they do everything for their mistress, who is, for a long long long time now, imprisoned in the furthest edges of the mirror world. The mirror-Worlders search for a way to break the borders of their Earth and our, to set free their twisted mistress.

They are the origin of every nightmare, they haunt the dreams of any thinking being, to torture, break, posses their minds. Zhuuls power lies beyond and far away from the physical realm and he may propose one of the greatest threats to earth, and yet the less one. Underlanders: ((inspiration by warlord and by hellboy 2^^)
Unrecognized by menkind, driven away by evolution long ago, the Underlanders live deep, VERY deep, below teh surface of the planet. They have discovered menkind, centuries ago, but all tries to communicate with the humans have ended in discrimination, mystification, persecution and similar things. Realizing mankind ain'T far enough yet, they have remained passive, watching us, learning from us, but never showing themselves. They were as quick as possible in adapting and transforming our technological advances...and deep in earth, they have better conditions for technological development. The Waking of the Archdemons, however, is also threatening the Underlands, so the Kings of Underland have all decided to prepare armies and intervene in this conflict, to bring the archdemons' struggle for power to an end.

Why didn't I think of this!!!

Awesome sauce!

It would probably be best to have very few but very upgradeable number of creatures, because, in horror, less is always more.

Oh, and a faction based on lovecraftian mythos...

Oh, and one based around escaped inmates...

Oh, and one with a bunch of people who kill others in their dreams.

oh, and lots of teenagers to kill. Lots and lots of petty chearleaders to butcher, and main, and garrotte, and slash and wow I really do have problems.

O rly?

Sorry, I was thinking we were in contemporary times. Oh well, my expansive knowledge of various horror movies is kind of useless.

I do, however, know a little about the time period in question.

How about something like the black order be based around a great machine, that will kill alot of people, but will wipe out the 13 arch demons, or a faction like that. the machines fuel? human hearts. specially train members go with heart cutters that perform massive amounts of damage.

The Black Order was more designed as a Black version of the Watchmen mage circle. they switched to worshipping the most magic-loving archdemon.

But a faction of your kind is definitively great!!!
specify it, please, if you wish

what the f**k?!

I'll help you out.

19th century/ early 20th century.

small bases for it all.

13 arch-demons of pure evil.

factions are:
the order (ninja excorsists),
the watchmen (good mages),
The vampires (those who are eager to prey on the fear of those in the jolly time),
the undead (to be expected),
the Gear grinders( mentioned above),
the Nephilim,
the hollow,
the beastmen and lycanthropes (could we change that to the wild ones?),
the blood legion,
the black order (evil wizards),
the crazies (loonies who have taken over the asylums and beleive they rule the streets... or something...)

those are the ones I remember, I hope it helps.

...-.- somehow it returned (don't ask me why, I'm stunned) except what I had intended to post the moment my i-net ****** everything up. I added description for Black Order, Dreamstalkers, Mirror-Worlders.

let's see, how many archdemonic factions have we now?

Undead, Vamps, Black Order, Dreamstalkers, Mirror-worlders defined
Plaguebringers, Blood Legion, Hollow (?), Crazy, Gear Grinders (if they have one)?
that means ten...what have I forgot?
I intended one "twin" pair of archdemons working together, having one faction...so still 2 to go...

A huge horde of swamp monsters, carrying terrible diseases with them that infect their enemies and weaken them even before the battle starts. Then their monstrous reptilian horde finishes them off. Now that the arch-demons have awakened, they want a share in power, and will do anything to see them come to power.

The Gear Grinders:

A faction consisting of dwarves and machines, with their religion revolving around a huge clock, for some reason. They try to do whatever they can to stopthe demons, as their prophets tell them that tge clock will stop if the demons are allowed to materialise. So they step out into the world, stunning it with peculiar weapons that decimate their opponents.

Those are all the descriptions I could think of.

Thank you so much for showing interest and participating in this project

For your descriptions.
THe plaguebringers' description is good, yet I want them to have one Archdemon as Lord. If you wish, I leave the name-invention for him/her to you.

The Gear-Gridners were invented by Bixie, and he had a relatively clear idea in mind, which is quite different from yours. Yet your faction sounds quite interesting nevertheless...I think of taking them in a little altered, yet we have quite a lot of factions allready...

jirika... just throwing it out there...

call one of the archdemons the kindly one.

It could essentially be a dream destroyer, a void in magic, dreams and so on. the kind of demon that even the other archdemons fear.

It comes from one of the Sandman books, number 9 (I recommend the series in general.)

also, a unit for one of the factions (you choose which one)

The devourers
the only demons that follow the kindly one, the devourers feed on emotions, thought and magic. they infest the local population, manifesting in the form of a perfectly normal human, except for one factor, that their eyes are replaced with mouths. sheilding these marks from the rest of the world, the devourers target the thinkers and the dreamers, praying on their thoughts until they are nothing more than drooling husks.

...here, some human creature which will be relatively week and possibly mostly neutral:

Citizen, Peasant, Worker
Tier 0
The lowest, weakest units of this game. They can do nothing significant, they, well, are just there. Peasant and worker are a little bit stronger than Citizens: Peasant gets +1 attack, worker +3 health.
Peasant Upgrade: Farmer. Has a shotgun which can do good ranged damage on close range.
Worker Upgrade: Metal Worker. More health, deals "good" blows with his hammer.

Infantry
Tier 1/2
A basic unit, armed with a rifle. They are overall rather week, though their guns can do quite a damage.
Upgrade: Veteran, more health & attack;

Policeman
Tier 1
Another basic useman, weaker on damage than Infantry (especially on range), and less health.
Upgrade: Detective. Unlike the policeman, quite a good unit for tier 1. Not easy to upgrade, though.

Bandits
Tier 1/2
Even in grave tiems as these, the human greed is insatiable. The bandits wait for refugees and helpless victims to cut their throats and steal their money. When demons should pop up, though, the bandits are better in running than in fighting.
Abilities: Pillage

okay, working on these units I just got this idea.
What are "towns" in heroes, are here called different, bases or sth like that.

There can be human towns on the map, which are quite weak, where soem of these weak human units can be recruited, etc. WHo is in posession of a town, can make it a base of their faction.
A human town attacked and without a garrison, will set up quite a number of citizen, workers, peasants and policemen or bandits (depending on the town) to defend the town. Remember, those are weak, but here they will come in masses. So no way taking them in the first week, but easy experience later on

...just recognized the devourers...not sure yet. The msot obvious choice would be Dreamstalkers but others could fit quite well, too - like the Black Order, for instance.

Head Shoot=20% chances to kill the top creature

Cool name, warlord.

@lizard. Nice suggestions, though I don't know how many tiers will exist, so tier 4 could be a bit high for soldiers, if there are only 5 tiers, even if only 6, maybe. Remember humans are a lot weaker than archdemons. Also, they seem not too much more than infantry+a bit stronger and I'm not sure wether the governments have found chances to really push otu their own force against the overmighty archdemons yet...but I really like the dogs Perhaps a cavalry unit for the humans would also be logical, and a melee fighter maybe.
