I find it questionable to use one of My Necromancer's turns on a skill, when there are Phoenixes, Hives, Barriers and Crystals to summon, and Mass Dark Spells/Marks of the Necromancer to cast. I haven't played in quite a while, but imo it's not a bad skill, but definately not a priority in the more important battles, and neither in the earlier-level ups.

In Short: It doesn't suck... but is isn't as essential as other skills.

Umm it's pretty useless. Maybe if you have absolutely no mana, no mark of the necromancer or no useful spells to cast. And only if you have Deirdre or the necro set

If it is not nerfed in any way and your hero has a good level, then i think it can be useful. Now i am not sure about some details, but i think that Elvin can answer to those. for example, does it work cumulatively with spells such as slow? in case of haste casted by the opponent, is the -10% initiative canceled totally?

Extra levels only increase the duration, it's always -1 luck/morale which isn't enough. -10% init is not bad either but for taking a whole round it's more of a liability than a bonus. Think it does add up with other initiative affecting arties/spells.

This i Knew but i think it is enough

If it adds up to slow or it doesn't get canceled by haste, then it is great

with arties it should be anyway. I care mostly if it gets cancelled by haste

I rarely bother with it.   Priority goes to other more powerful spells such as puppet master, sorrow and mass slow.  For the most part battles are over by the time I get to cast a third spell.

Battle over by third spell? You must be referring to AI, a decent opponent can keep a necro game going for a long while.

In duel mode my battles last quite long usually. I think it can be between 5 and 10 rounds sometimes. but I prefer the knight who has quite a tough army (squires + battle griffins + inquisitors). if you play stronghold usually you win fast.
(sylvan too, but not necessarily, you can go defensive with treants)

Banshee Howl is one of those "I have nothing better to do" abilities. It's like Benediction only worse because the Necromancer's turns are overall more valuable than a Knight's.

Even when facing a high moral retribution opponent + Deirdre and/or necro set? I only play necro when I random (and not very well, I assume), and Deirdre is one of my fav choices (I face alot of light+might knight and offensive academy).

On another note: When you haunt mines, can you take the ghosts out of their garrison and put them in your army? Like Ghost farming? I pondered that combined with Nadir / eternal servitude and Kamikaze'ing the temporary ghosts to increase ghost number? Crazy idea?

Just looking for other options because: vlads special is fail. zombies are fail, but I've used orson when randoming. That leaves the vamp specialist, and I'm not that fond of vamps other than torpor. The people I play don't really spam spells other than something like mass haste/mass slow that kinda variation rules out zoltan (I also dislike his lack of mentoring). Kaspar I can't handle the loss of a slot, as raise dead is such a great loss reduction spell. Raven seems ok, also.

I wouldn't go for Haunted Mines altogether if you were you.

It requires Leadership >_<

I thought as much, and clearly I've never taken leadership with necro before

I was just hoping for a party trick of sorts, you know rock up at the final battle with as many ghosts as skellies (without wasting DE on them)?

It's only two levels of Leadership and Herald of Death is a useful sub ability.  Maybe not the worst combo ever.  Not worse than soulfire.
