Dominions hmm... Seriously, guys made four of those with such a pricetag and the game still looks like s*it!

I'll belive you people on that one, so many positive reviews must mean something, but damn, Myth The Fallen Lords had better graphics and that's a game from 1997! I know graphics are not what matters the most in these kind of games, but would it hurt them to make at least some decent 2D sprites like in Heroes II? I mean, one look on a random battle made my eyes bleed :/

How the hell did that game even become popular? If it weren't for all those positive opinions I would think it's some kind of a bad joke...

Divinity: dragon commander and Crypt of the Necrodancer. Dragon commander is an RPG with heavy RTS and TBS elements that has you try and conquer an imperium as you progress it through social policies and stuff and fight battles in real time where you can also turn into a snowing dragon and burn the snow out of you enemies OMG it's so awesome! Pretty cool. Battles are rather shallow but the meat of the game is in the RPG elements of balancing your council of over-the-top politicians and the direction the Imperium is to take under your rule. pretty fun, but not for everyone.

Crypt of the Necrodancer is a rouge like rhythm game where you and everything else have to move to the beat. A lot of fun and fantastic music. Heavily recommended.

Oh, and I played Jotun a while back. Absolutely brilliant and probably my GotY. Must play if you even have a passing interest in norse mythology or mythology in general.

Obviously it didn't become popular because of its graphics. If lack of eye candies means bad game for you, just skip it.

One of my top games is still Imperialism 2, TB, crap graphics but a game play and an effective AI like you won't find in recent games. I think it is from 1998. Then the other is MOO2, then H3, Might and Magic 6-8, dunno, looks like I am stuck in the past.

I beg to differ!

Apart from the shameless self-promotion, the game has a unique art-style, the little sprites actually are pretty great I think.

And come on, a game where you are a fire deity that leads volcano people against an astral deity that commands a greek civilization at odds with a death god leading roman legions.

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!

But really, it's also a pretty difficult game, and in places still unbalanced (considering how many units, spells and nations there are I'm not surprised)

Balance is a problem only if you're planning to face other people in MP, even then there are only a few seriously underpowered nations. In single-player the nation is not much more than one of the tools of your pretender to become a real god - along with hundreds of spells, neutral units and commanders, mercenaries and whatnot. As for the difficulty - initially learning the basics is trial and error mostly, there are little in-game hints to guide you what is best or even what to do - once you figure out how to expand comfortably (there are many ways to achieve that) and where/when to build additional fortifications, it gets easier.

No, for me a good game does not require over the top graphics (for instance I still think that Heroes franchise should go back to it's 2D roots). But there is a difference between bad graphics and graphics that make your eyes bleed... like in the case with Dominions.

The talk of Dominions has reminded me, has anyone played Armello? Is it good?

I bought Armello on Steam. And I really like it. There's absolutely nothing similiar on the market. Both in terms of aesthetics and gameplay. Sure, there are some board games like Battlelore, The Witcher BG or Talisman that were transitioned onto PC, but neither of them is as visually appealing and dynamic as Armello.

I won't tell you what the game is and how's it played cause I've already wrote about it somewhere here on this forum, plus I suppose you know what it's about if you're already interested in it. From my expierience I can say that it's an easy to get into game with quite a lot of RNG, but it still can be played very strategically (it's all about resource managment). Luck is an important factor cause battles for instance are dice-based, and even with much better stats you still might loose with bad rolls. I think the best thing about Armello is that it's fast paced (after the newest patch it became much faster), so you can grab a "quick" game that will last for around 1h (with AI, a game with living players will probably take more time). It's also very cutthroat-ish, dying is an easy feat (though you don't loose that much with dying) and even if you have an edge over your opponents you can still loose by a horses nail if they manage to complete one of the winning objectives before you (In few of my playthroughs it was a really close call, cause as soon as you start to make a move on the final objective everyone tries to hamper/outdistance you). Needles to say, one of the games objectives is to hamper your opponents

Of course, not everyone likes furries, but imo it's the best thing about Armello, cause it gives the game a unique feel (A dark cartoon ).

If you want my honest opinion though I would wait a bit. You see, the game already has some content, but it could use some more. It has 8 characters atm and if you ask me it's not enough, cause there are always 4 of them on board so there isn't that much variety. Fortunately it won't be long untill they release four more (they're already in game, but for Kickstarter backers), and from what the devs say there should be at least 12 more (it remains to be seen if they will be free or as a paid dlc). Since they released the game in Early Access they've been constantly adding free dlc with small content (few new cards, new mechanics/features etc), and after the game went official they are continiuing this approach.

To sum it up, it's a great game with potentialy a lot of replayability, but only if they add some more content. It's worth noting that I'm saying this from a single players perspecive, I've yet to try Multiplayer...

Totally agree, I got it last week, and am enjoying it a lot!

The problem is currently that there is not enough people playing multiplayer... but hopefully, once in the queue, you can play a solo game waiting for the game to be filled up!

Guess I will hold off a bit then. Hopefully one of the new characters is a sparrow or some bird, that would be just adorable.

There's this cute little bandit squirrel if you're interested I don't know about birds though... generally speaking Aves are reserved for the "bad" guys I think, I didn't see any anthropomorphic birds, only evil skelatal Banes which are generally monsters...

I'm rooting for a Deer hero but it's pretty unlikely cause various animal factions are already defined (though there's a cosmopolitan Bandit clan so maybe?).

Plus, although unlikely, the game would really use some more tilesets or different types of tiles (doubtful cause devs said they did a lot of playstesting and what is present atm is optimal).

I'm not exactly playing it yet, but will soon:

Assassin's Creed Revelations.

A friend gave me a spare key yesterday, and through Uplay I downloaded and installed the game. I'm curious if it runs well enough to enjoy it ^^. This will be my first step into the AC franchise, for I haven't played a single game from it as to this date. I only watched some videos here and there.

If I like it, I may try the others too.

SC II Legacy of the Void.

Damn, Blizzard delivers once again...

For now I've completed the first three missions, and the first one was especially "umph!". Those missions are quite easy on Normal, they function as a tutorial, yet completing all achievements proved to be a tinsy-winsy challange Most people say that Starcrafts II story is cliche, but I don't mind, the first major "shocker" already brought a little tear into my eye Oh, and a nice touch with the "Story so far" intro...

Aside from that, very nice cutscenes (build on the games engine), and the Spear of Adun HUB-ship is incredible (I didn't suspect it will be this lively). Although kinda the same as in the previous installments, a really nice "randomize" your army mechanic (with a little twist). A little spoiler: you can pick a Dragoon, so the "nostalgia effect" is strong here

PS: I've bought the Collectors Edition. You might call this throwing away money cause it's price is in fact quite steep, even with the discount I got (and one could say there aren't that many goodies in it for this price), but the Field Manual artbook/reference book is totally worth it. It covers almost every unit, structure etc in the history of Stacraft (original Starcraft info included) plus some more lore, so for me it's a much better item then another figure or a mousepad...
